I can't keep the weight off without mounjaro and can't afford it

I just feel so defeated.

I have a lot of mental health issues and feel my eating ties in with that very seriously.

This has been a lifelong issue with me, from my early teens and I have tried everything from slimming world, to personal trainers, to bootcamps, VLCDs, keto, therapy and hypnosis.

In 2020 I had a gastric sleeve and lost a good chunk of my weight but didnt progress like most people with a sleeve did.

Then I found mounjaro and i felt normal for the first time in my life.

Reached 9st and so many of my problems went away from mental health to physical issues that I had from sleeve.

Ive come off it 3 times now and gained everytime.

Go back on it and everything is great. No food noise. No food obsession. No reflux. No gastric issues. My head is a lot calmer etc.

But i just can't afford it, and now the price is going up.

Im just so sad :( It really is a miracle for me.

I don't know what the qualifyers are but I really don't think I would qualify for it at my current weight (9.7st)

NHS criteria is BMI 40. Not sure if that is with co-morbidities or not. Most GP's I've heard about are being super strict, they will not issue it to someone purely because it's helped them. They just don't have the funding for this.

Many of the prescribers are still offering low-dose Mounjaro at a reasonable price as far as I have seen. OP, if it's really been that life-changing for you, can you make cutbacks somewhere else in order to afford it?

Or as others have said, switch to Wegovy.

NHS criteria is BMI 40 with at least 4 out of 5 specific weight related health conditions - type 2 diabetes, high BP, high cholesterol, heart disease and obstructive sleep apnea. So very few people will qualify to start, and the GP certainly won't prescribe for someone who has already lost the weight.

As the PP says, 2.5mg and 5mg are still affordable, if you can manage on those.
