Can your body have a pre-set weight it returns to?

I've lost just over a stone since the end of April, most of it was in the first 2 months and then hardly anything since June. I have Hashimotos and when I got sick my weight increased by 4 stone over a year to 15st 10lbs before I was diagnosed and treated. Every time I get above or below it seems to default back to this weight. I put on a little over a stone last year after a rough 6 months of bad health so that's gone and now I'm back to 15st 10lbs and I can't get under that weight. Any suggestions? I'm so worried that the Hashimotos has reset my body's idea of what weight I should be and won't let me change it.

I've been on 5mg since June and only lost a few pounds after the first 2 weeks. I'm upping to 7.5mg but now the price change has come in and I'm worried even if it works i'll not be able to afford to keep going. I'm just fed up of being this heavy.

In weight management there is the set point theory, and also the settling point theory.

The Zoe website has a good explanation - https://zoe.com/learn/set-point-theory

It's worth a read.

The good news is that they are just theories and you can change your weight. It might be harder due to your health issues or happen in a different way to someone else but you can do it.

Have your learnt about your TDEE/BMR and your calorie requirements? Tracking your calories, even for a couple of weeks, can be very beneficial and lead to an understanding in how to eat more in line with what your body needs.

Eating too little can sometimes be as detrimental as eating too much.

It's important to find a balance. Mounjaro can do some heavy lifting in regards to dealing with hunger feelings and steadying blood sugar levels but you still have to put in the work. I think there's very few people who can rely entirely on the jabs to do the work for them.

If you already clued up on your calorie requirements and don't want to change how much you are eating then you should look at increasing your movement. It doesn't have to be dedicated exercise and spending hours in the gym each week - just adding in a little walk at lunch time or after dinner or something like that. I have a walking pad I set up in front of the TV on an evening after my children are in bed.

Is set point theory real? Here, we’ll take a look at the scientific evidence and explore what it might mean for weight management.
