3 x pens arrived warm! :(

Redlightbulb · 17/08/2025 17:00

I had managed to purchase 3 x 15mg pens for £145 using a new customer discount code.
They were spent by Royal Mail guaranteed next day delivery. Should have got them yesterday but Royal Mail cocked up & delivered to wrong depot! Arrived late this afternoon. So a day late.
ice pack was fully melted. I have a temperature gun and it was reading 29 for the internal of the wool packet & 25 for the ice pack. Normally I would want them sent back but the provider is now out of stock & given the pending price increases I may have to pay more for them? especially If the provider can’t get new stock until the 1st Sept.
Really annoyed. I was due to start a new pen today so I could use one now & then I guess just prioritise to use the other ones after.
hopefully they will all be OK.

@Monstersincfactory
I called this morning & they said for me to email & that they would send me a prepaid address label so I could send them back & get replacements but it may be a refund if they have no stock. I said that as I would be starting a new pen today anyway I would be willing to keep one which they agreed to.
So I have emailed & waiting to hear back.
The 15 still looks to be in stock on their website but they now have a banner up saying that they are not currently taking on new customers & that their processing time is 7-10 days, so who knows when they will respond to that email.
I did state in my email that I wanted replacements & was happy to wait for them. I asked if they could earmark 2 x 15 pens for me ASAP.
But they would probably make more money by refunding me & then selling the pens to someone else as I got them for around £145 each using a code & they are not allowing codes to be used now & they are on their website for £209!

Bit of a shitty situation but I hope it all works out OK.

Id be worried they will just say they are out of stock...

Monstersincfactory · 18/08/2025 14:29

I'm surprised they refunded you without the pen returned.

I will mark the pen so I will know if they just send it back to me.

They sent me a Royal Mail label, not 24 or 48 or anything like that. I emailed them back and said I didn’t feel comfortable complying, that I wasn’t willing to risk the medication being degraded and wouldn’t be using it, but this is a prescription medication and it was my responsibility to ensure it was correctly looked after. I think they just wanted rid of me so refunded me

With the cost of living and people struggling but yet most find the money for a skinny jab.

Yes with the current prices the cost can largely be offset by buying less food / not having takeways / eating out. etc.

I’d refuse to send it back. You don’t know if they’re going to try and sell them on. Tell them you expect a full replacement to be shipped within 24 hours or you will be contacting the pharmaceutical council. I had this with bolt once and they asked me to return the pen. I said no, as it was my prescription medication and I didn’t want it being sold on or anything else! They refunded me and I switched to Zava.

Of course they are not going to sell them to anyone else, it would be illegal.

These are registered pharmacies, that need to operate within the law, not a car boot sale.

You were being unfair to Bolt not returning the pen and I am surprised they didn't tell you return or no refund. It is likely because of your unreasonable threats and not wanting a black mark at the GPhC for a pen arriving warm (not for the reasonable request to return).

Mark the box if you really must, but they are quite right and being responsible to ask for it to be returned to ensure 1) they can safely track and dispose of it and prevent misuse, 2) the patient is not trying to pull a fast on and get a free pen

I don’t think I was being unfair - the medication was unusable and I didn’t have any trust in them, why would they be asking for it to be returned?

My last paragraph suggested the reasons, prescribing remotely has challenges and it makes sense from both safety and business perspectives to have rejected pens returned.

I also have ordered 3 packs ( at much higher cost)

They refunded me, so 🤷🏼‍♀️ maybe I was just being extra annoying but I didn’t see why I should be put out by having to do across town to a post office, provide packaging etc., when it was their cock up. It was the middle of winter too so it wasn’t like the weather could be blamed! It was clearly sent after the cold chain had been broken

Iamthemoom · 18/08/2025 15:34

Numan deliver via dpd and every pen I’ve had has arrived ice cold so if anyone’s looking to switch I recommend their service. Pens always arrive the day after dispatch and are so well ice packed. My latest was sent yesterday afternoon and arrived this morning.

Mines agreed to replace so I will send it back today.

Dublassie · 19/08/2025 10:51

If it’s any help when I started I was buying from the UK yet living in Dublin . By the time the meds got to me they could have been out of the fridge for a week and were never cold . They were completely effective and I’ve lost three stone . So in my opinion the drugs are totally fine ! I’ve never quite understood the refrigeration rules as it says the pen can be stored at up to 30 degrees .

ThatCyanSheep · 19/08/2025 10:53

NOresponsibility · 18/08/2025 17:18

Gosh your comment is so 2025.

I don’t particularly understand the point of your comment. Yes there is a cost of living crisis. Yes some people can’t afford them. I, like many others, would cut out nearly everything else in order to pay for these jabs.

Redlightbulb · 19/08/2025 17:09

Hmm.. They came back & said that if I was not comfortable using the meds I can return & get a refund but they are unable to send replacements at the moment.
Think I am just going to keep the 2 pens as it would be difficult to source new ones at the price I paid.
I guess they would have only had 1 day at higher temps.
This is my first experience of a warm pen since starting a year ago.

I realise you've probably made a decision OP but in case it's useful, Lilly have a tool you can use to determine their recommendation on whether a pen can be used after the cool chain is broken:

Assessment of unforeseen temperature exposures of Lilly products

If both temperature measurements were under 30C they should be fine to put straight into the fridge.

This is basically what Cloud pharmacy told me when they fucked up my last delivery

Iv had a replacement for my pen that came warm arrive today

This has happened to my pen today (also ordered from Cloud but despatched from Mediva). Ice pack totally melted, package temp reading 25°.

I've emailed Cloud but know they'll say it's fine (the pen won't be used for a few weeks so definitely not within the 30 days it can be unrefrigerated for).

Was your pen ok when you used it @ThatsNotMyTeen?

WarmMJ · 23/08/2025 20:34

If they will not replace it, copy the General Pharmaceutical Council into your reply email. They are very responsive. @poppym12

poppym12 · 23/08/2025 20:39

Thank you @WarmMJ, I'll do this if I need to. It's not the first warm delivery I've received but I'm almost at the end of my journey (goal weight and price increases) so I don't want to be forced to accept something I know isn't right.
