I have been on Mounjaro for 6 months. My provider has stopped my prescription due to my medication. Apparently new guidelines have come in about certain conditions and their respective medication.
Has anyone else had this problem and if so, did you find a way to still get the weight loss injections?
I was upfront about my condition and medication from the beginning.
My meds are quetiapine for bipolar 2 disorder and low dose of 200mg.

Have you asked your gp or psychiatrist about taking mounjaro?
If they are ok with it could you get something in writing from them?

I don’t have a psychiatrist because I’m not deemed ill enough, hence the low dose. I have spoken to two GPs at my practice who are more than happy for me to be on Mounjaro as long as I follow the guidance to eat well, protein and do weight bearing exercise.

I’m not sure there are ‘new’ guidelines (or at least none in the last month!) that should stop you being prescribed. More likely a change of internal policies tbh. Which pharmacy was it??

A couple of suggestions:

  1. Try a GP led pharmacy like Pharmulous or Swift Dr who may be more willing to take on a patient with more complex medications.
  2. Try a local independent pharmacy that prescribes weight loss meds as they may be more willing to liaise with your gp over medications.

Good luck with it!

Thank you!! I believe it could be internal guidelines. The company is IQ doctor. I have been honest from the beginning. The jab has really helped me reset unhealthy eating habits and build good exercise routines. I'm just not quite where I want to be in terms of stopping altogether.

I really do hope you manage to sort something! I think some of the bigger companies are quite risk averse. I am with Pharmulous and cannot recommend them more highly but they are not the cheapest.

Thank you for the advice. It is all very much appreciated. I have started the process with Pharmulous so let’s see.

I also wanted to raise this issue so others are aware. I wonder if people just don’t add their medications to avoid any issues like this!

I just got rejected from IQ Dr for bipolar (but different medication). I've been with them since beginning of May

What? If you're deemed ill enough to take medication for bpd you're definately ill enough to be seeing a psychiatrist! I'm shocked that your GP prescribed medication. He should have transferred you to a psychiatrist who is more apt to know what kind of meds you need/doses and follow up tests to measure possible side effects.

AlicesMum2025 · 14/08/2025 15:34

I dont have a psychiatrist either. The service is so stretched here that I was discharged due to being stable, low risk and treatment compliant. My GP manages my medication now

Apologies for any confusion. The psychiatrist I saw initially prescribed the quetiapine and I had a nurse prescriber and access to very good support. However, I moved counties and the support is virtually non existent. It is a constant battle to access any support beyond my GP.
