Dry mouth

Has anyone found an answer to an intolerable dry mouth on Mounjaro?

Got worse I think on stepping up to 15mg, and I am taking a couple of weeks off then going to go down to a much lower dose - would like to lose a few more kg if possible (gone from BMI 35 to 25 but would like to get to 22/23 then maintain) but if I have to stop then so be it. Sucking sweets/chewing gum/drinking water works at the time but within minutes my mouth feels like a desert again, and I am having gum problems which I think are related.

I have seen saliva production sprays online, do they work? Anyother thoughts?

It’s a known side effect and due to dehydrating effect it has. I think just drinking water is the answer. Maybe sipping little and often?

I have another medication that can cause dry mouth and I’ve never used anything other than drinking more water.

I probably drink about 4-5L of water throughout the day - but within a low single figure number of minutes from taking the last sip, my mouth feels like the worst hangover I've ever had.........it has got to the point that I'm even chewing gum at the gym because I can't be without something and I can't sip water every minute there or I need the loo all the time - already up for the loo several times a night.....

Have you tried electrolytes in your water?

Xylimelts from Amazon.

Sorry I should have explained.. my PT at the gym told me that if you drink too much water and become over hydrated you put your electrolytes out of balance. She said that those electrolyte powders/tablets help if you have headaches or dry mouth. Whether it’s fact or not I don’t know - it was what was suggested to me.

Electrolytes replace the salts and things you lose from sweating (and drinking too much water).

I use Phizz tablets, I used them prior to weight loss when I was running and training a marathon.

Thank you, will try those suggestions

Be careful with the xylimelts - if you drink tea they can badly stain your teeth. The tanin reacts with the acacia gum in the xylimelts.

I've been trying a pro biotic for dry mouth - Lactobacillus Salivarius and the Boots brand dry mouth spray and mouthwash. As good as Biotene and much cheaper.
