Improved mental health?

Really strange side effect. I’ve only been on it a week, but I seem to be much calmer, less snappy, not losing my shit over small stuff.

I’ve lost about half a stone so while that’s good it isn’t such a lot that I feel so much better that I’m not snapping.

Is it just me?

Not me, it makes me feel low.

Not me, it makes me feel low.

Same.

The first month I did feel amazing on it. Energetic, cheerful, calm. But halfway through 5mg my mood took a dip and hasn't recovered. Not uncommon unfortunately and so disappointing.

I feel similar @justoutsideoftown although a lot of it is having lost most of the weight and not having had constant self loathing internal talk for the year that I’ve been taking Mounjaro. I absolutely love feeling calm and in control around food, it’s a revelation.

I also think a lot of it is to do with my sleep being miles better too.

justoutsideoftown · 06/08/2025 18:54

My sleep is terrible but that isn’t Mounjaro’s
fault. I hope it lasts but sounds like it may be short lived.

It is nice not to be stressing over food, hunger, worry about eating too much …

Not just you. I started in October and by November my mental health vastly improved.

Now, all these months later… anxiety gone, busy head, gone! I’m calm and collected - nothing really gets to me anymore.

Lemonscale · 06/08/2025 20:50

I’m the same as you OP. From almost day 1 I felt so much better and I’m now 4 months in, lost almost 2 stone which isn’t far off my goal and I still feel the same. I’ve only gone up to 5mg and don’t plan on going up from here but I’ll stay on this / titrate down really slowly and stay on it as long as possible.

I think as pp said I’ve lost the self-loathing that comes with binging and punishing myself. Binge eating was the main issue for me and that urge has gone.

I also feel a lot less anxious.

Mainly though my mood is much better and I’m less snappy. I had a very bad case of hangry mood swings and I don’t get that any more.

My BMI was 29.5 at the start but I qualified due to pre-diabetes and my blood sugars are now healthy. I think that’s been the biggest reason I feel better.

I sometimes realise it’s injection day because of rising anxiety rather than loss of appetite suppression. I really don’t ever want to go back to how I felt before.

Yes - I find that due to a feeling a flat and meh, that this works both ways. So stuff which would stress, irritate me before just doesn't anymore. I'm alot more laid back about everything. I've been on it already a year now and I'm going to come off soon. The flatness definitely has improved, but I would say I still don't get uptight or stressed about the small stuff anymore. I have x3 high needs, ASD children, and I just seem to get on with it rather than daily upsets and meltdowns (from me 🤪). It will be interesting to see what happens when I come off.

ShrankLastWinter · 07/08/2025 06:44

I’m much calmer, gently contented. Perhaps a bit flat, but losing the lows is worth it. Freedom from worrying about food is great too. Also very pleased to wake up every morning and realize I’m so much lighter. And now after 6 months I have an immense sense of satisfaction at being a healthy weight.

This is exactly my experience too. Hate feeling so meh all the time, especially after feeling so good the first month. I've done nearly 4 months and am still on 5mg, probably need to go up but worried about worsening mental health. Also thinking I'll probably come off it sooner than I planned because of how I feel. Still got 25kg to lose ideally though

I feel great on MJ which I’m sure is in large part due to the fact that I feel free of the self loathing that has tortured me every day for longer than I can ever remember. Now I feel like I’m actively doing something to help myself, I’m making progress and it feels sustainable is making me feel fantastic. A real break from the self hatred cycle I was in.

I had whopping insomnia at the start but it left after a month and now I sleep great too.

I’ve got way more energy, and losing nearly 5 stone means I can walk more, be more mobile, exercise, all things I couldn’t do before. I get a buzz every single time I walk my dogs.

FoxRedPuppy · 07/08/2025 15:28

My brain feels less busy. I’m on a (long) waiting list for ADHD assessment and it’s like Mounjaro has calmed everything down for me. Like food noise is gone, but so is all the other constant noise.

Im not sleeping well, this week has been awful for insomnia. Hopefully that will pass.

Doristheclitoris · 07/08/2025 15:33

I have done 9 months on MJ and my mental health, focus and confidence have all improved in masses. I know some of this will be down to losing weight but the change in these things was pretty much instant and I do believe the MJ itself plays a huge part. As I have lost more weight I have just felt so much better mentally. It’s been a tough year for me and I can’t imagine how awful I would be feeling right now had I not started MJ. I am so much more able all round.

Somethingsnapped · 07/08/2025 15:48

I'm pleased to read this. I'm thinking of starting taking it. I wonder if there is actually some chemical reaction that causes it, or if it's more to do with the calmness and optimism that comes with taking control?

FoxRedPuppy · 07/08/2025 17:44

It interrupts something to do with dopamine, and a lot of ADHD people have reported feeling better.

IsItSnowing · 08/08/2025 11:07

My mind is much less busy since starting mounjaro. I feel much calmer most of the time. It's a definite benefit for me. I'm guessing it's related to the whole food noise thing.
