A thread for MJ users on 10mg +

I've noticed that many posters on MJ seem to be having success on the lower doses and I'm wondering how many of us are on 10mg and beyond?

I'm only 3 months in and other than x2 7.5mg pens I've had to move up through the doses a lot faster than many.

Obviously cost is higher and SE more of a concern. I've lost 2st which is excellent but others seem to have lost the same on smaller doses?

I know comparison is the thief of joy and all that and if it's working it's working, I just wanted to see if there are many people here on the higher doses.

I'm on 10mg, just finished my second 10mg pen. Been on MJ since January. I don't really worry about the dosage, I'll take whatever dose is needed!
It's working really well for me and have never had side effects at any dose.
I should think this is as high as I'll go, I only have 7/8 more kilos to get to goal now.

It is interesting how so many of us respond so differently.
My weight loss Dr has always said that being at the optimum dose was the key, and that would vary from person to person, and change as I went along.

At the start I moved up the doses each month. I found that it was tapering off after 5 days and would then take over 48 hours to kick in.
Im now on my 2nd month of 12.5 mg, having spent just over 2 months on 10mg.
12.5mg is currently the optimum dose for me as it pretty much lasts the full 7 days.
I did have quite a kick back when I first went up to 12.5, with nausea and indigestion lasting for 3+ days. But I have discovered that this is reduced significantly if I jab in the late afternoon, instead of the morning.

Having lost 4.5 stone, I am very close to a healthy BMI which was my overall target. However I still carry quite a lot of fat over my stomach, so I will continue on 12.5 for a bit longer, to see if I can reduce my tummy roll before I start to titrate down.

I am of course exercising as well.

I’m on 15mg and have been for the last 4 months or so, I moved up through the doses, did 2 x 7.5mg and regretted the second pen, also did 2 x 12.5mg but 15mg is the perfect optimum dose for me and I’m still steadily losing 2 - 2.5 lbs each week. It still baffles my mind how everyone reacts so differently.

Divebar2021 · 05/08/2025 09:46

I’ve reached my target and never went higher than 10mg. Because the 7.5mg pen is the same price as my 10mg I’ve kept that dose pen but am reducing the amount I’m using. I’m not sure how long my supplier will let me take it but the aim is to stay at 5mg maintenance dose. For reference I only pay about £130 for 10mg

It is fascinating to see how differently MJ works for people.

I did two months on Wegovy before I moved to MJ and I lost 4 measly pounds, so I am thrilled that I've had much more success on MJ.

I have never had full suppression, always feel hungry around meal times (I am eating much less though) and by jab day I definitely feel it wearing off. It just feels 'less effective' on me if that makes sense? Although it's clearly working as I am averaging -2lbs a week which I could never have dreamed of pre MJ. Without MJ I can lose 1lb a week but I am deprived and demotivated. I still feel a bit deprived at times on MJ but nothing like I used to.

As kindly pointed out, maybe I just haven't found the magic dose yet! I will be starting 10mg for my next pen so excited to see if this is the dose.

I’m so happy to read posts like this. I’m on 7.5 and had next to no change. Well, I’ve lost about 10lb over 12 weeks which I’m happy about but certainly
not been the massive shift others have reported. Moving up to 10 in a couple of weeks and wondering if I’ll have to go all the way to 15. A couple of times I have been close to giving up. It’s a lot of money for not much weight loss

PringlesTube · 05/08/2025 11:47

I’m on my third 10mg pen. For some reason 7.5 did absolutely nothing for me, barely any suppression at all, 10 is great though.

Wishe · 05/08/2025 16:49

I've just done my 4th dose of 12.5mg and I'll be going back down to 10mg.

12.5mg has been pretty intense. I never struggled to eat or anything like that on it but I completely lost interest in food so when I was hungry I did resort to easy crap if I'm honest. Ready meals and cooked chicken from the shop. Barely ate veg. So low volume and not at all that nutritious. Fatigue was bad, low mood was worse. Lost all motivation to exercise and fuel my body properly. I think because my energy was so low all of my sugar cravings crept back in.

So even if I have more food noise and need to rely on willpower a lot more on 10mg I think it will be better for me overall.

I have to admit though that I was tempted to go up to 15mg just to see what it was like and the idea of faster losses does appeal to the slightly disordered part of me. Ultimately I want to be as healthy as possible though and work on my relationship with food so back down I go.

But you lost 2 stone in 3 months? Thats loads! And you are supposed to feel hungry at mealtimes. It's not meant to suppress your appetite completely. It sounds like your dosage is working really well. I do understand the anxiety of feeling it's wearing off and that's why I went up the doses too but I never lost weight as rapidly as you have so I'm not sure whether your expectations are quite right?

Mysticmaiden · 05/08/2025 20:25

I'm on 15mg, 4 weeks in on it and it's been super strong for me so I've been struggling to eat, even at 4 weeks in, so this week I split my dose doing 10mg on day 1 and 5mg on day 4 and that's so much better with resolving the super full and feeling sickly if I eat a few tablespoons of food. I struggled eating half meals, but I managed to eat a decent meal at lunch today.
I started October 24 and 10 months on, being prediabetic the smaller doses gave suppression but wore off very quickly! 2.5 lasted 2 weeks! 5 for 5 weeks, 7.5mg 7 weeks, I was struggling for rest of the pen, 10mg 7 weeks then completely wore off, no suppression and feeling ravenous even straight after jabbing, 12.5mg did well on 2 pens but wanted to see what 15mg was all about! I needed 10mg to resolve my blood sugar symptoms. I'm now at bmi 24.5, will start tapering down now to 12.5mg next. Usually eat less than 1200 cals a day but on 15mg it was 850-950 a day and most of that was forced, horrendous.

@BabyCatFace

My weightloss is relatively slow compared to some people who started at the same time and are still on lower doses, that's what has made me ask. But yes I'm losing consistently and well. I don't want to lose weight any faster but I wouldn't mind it being a bit easier.

Food noise still quite high and continuous and I feel like I'm doing a lot of the work on willpower.

I was just wondering how common it is for people to need higher doses. I'm the only poster in our late April group who is moving up to 10mg. Most other regular posters seem to be on 5mg still (or less) and are in the -2st + bracket.

It's 28 pounds in 12 weeks, more than 2lbs a week on average. If anything it's too fast and you run the risk of loose skin, muscle loss and other issues! I really dislike the competitive nature of losing weight on Mounjaro and the idea that it needs to be massive loss to be 'worth it'.

Thanks for your concern, and I really don't want to speed it up. I am happy with the rate I am losing, just wish it was a bit "easier" from a psychological perspective and I wasn't still dominated by my food noise.

My loss seems pretty average among other people who started at the same time. But I am on the highest dose (small sample of 10/15 people granted)

It took me a good 6 months to stop being preoccupied by food. I spent that time being preoccupied by how much my appetite was suppressed and I was still thinking about food a lot, just not wanting to eat it! It's only now a year in that I can say my food noise is genuinely gone and my association between food and reward. It's not a quick process. And I have no faith I wouldn't backslide very quickly if I came off it.

That's really handy to know, thank you.

I realise that the real battle I am going to face is with my mind. Yes I'm eating less and I would definitely say the food noise is different (I'm not as tempted by the junk) but its there and it preoccupies me just as much.

I guess I thought / hoped that would go away and I could just be a "normal" person who eats healthily when hungry.

Retraining my mind is going to be tough and I think I may need to consider some therapy longer term.
