Weird question- my 14 year old C section scar is suddenly itching like mad….

Been on MJ for a while. Lost 3 stone- from 16 to 13 stone. Obviously have a way to go. Honestly I’ve had very few side effects and have just appreciated the appetite suppression and the removal of food noise.

However, recently my C section scar has started itching. Not just a bit of itching but constant insane itching- the sort where I’m physically having to stop myself from rubbing it all the time (not a good look in an open plan office!) I had 2 C sections, one in 2005 and one in 2010- the 2005 one was an emergency and they made a bit of a mess but apart from it being numb it never bothered me. I’d give anything to have the numbness back….

I googled but couldn’t find anything about this. Am I just weird? Has anyone else had this? Should I fill out a yellow card?

Could a stitch be coming out? Perhaps made more external by the loss of fat?

It could be coincidental, a fungal infection or perhaps just the position of the scar has moved with the weight loss and it’s now rubbing on something.

SilenceInside · 03/08/2025 21:47

I guess you can report it via the yellow card scheme but it could very easily just be a coincidence and nothing at all to do with Mounjaro.

Do you have any kind of an overhang? Could it be a fungal infection? Has the shape of your stomach changed as a result of the weight loss?

midlifesharp · 03/08/2025 21:55

My stomach has changed shape- got smaller! However I always had a c section overhang and all that’s happened is that it’s got smaller. I used to have to be careful washing and drying under it so I didn’t get rashes- it’s easier now as it’s more exposed to the air, so surely the itching should be less not more! No current rash, no redness- looks perfectly normal. However the itching is so bad I couldn’t sleep last night! It’s along the whole scar not just a bit of it and I didn’t have conventional stitches- I remember having a metal wire with beads on the end that they just pulled out.

Also it’s not rubbing on anything. I’m a granny panty, sensible waistband sort of person. It’s encased in sensible breathable cotton….

I get this when I take labetalol - my scalp and my c section scar! Weeeeird.

Batmanisaplaceinturkey · 03/08/2025 22:03

Is it just because of the skin changes cause by weight loss?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 03/08/2025 22:07

Since 1983, I have had a total of four CSs.

Over the years, the scar has itched randomly and for no apparent reason.

However, anti-fungal cream e.g. clotrimazole has always cleared it up.

I've been on MJ for over a year and it hasn't caused the scar to itch. Well, not yet......

Well that is peculiar. No similar action that I can see. Perhaps I just need to chalk this up to “one of those weird things”…..

My scar has reopened twice (once on each end) while I’ve been on MJ. No idea why and I’ve had occasional itching.

Hoping this hasn’t jinxed you! Honestly my scar has always just been numb but unproblematic. This itching isn’t just uncomfortable- I’m considering sleeping in gloves tonight as I’m even scratching in my sleep. The only thing that’s changed recently is the MJ and the weight loss- and I’ve lost weight before and never had this, hence me posting on the injectables board.
It’s really frustrating as I feel fine otherwise.

Well that’s interesting! Mine feels like it might crack at any moment but looks normal (if you discount the claw marks from the itching!) Did it stop itching once it rehealed?

I've had some stretch marks itch like mad as I've lost weight with MJ (as I understand it it's positive & due to the stretch mark healing) so I wonder if it's similar? Essentially a scar that has now been unstretched & therefore itching as it heals?

(I would throw an anti fungal & some hydrocortisone on it)

HansHolbein · 03/08/2025 22:45

My last section was 12 years ago.

Mine went through a period of itching. Maybe it was the skin reorganising itself? Anyway, Eurax cream did the trick.

Catsandcats · 03/08/2025 23:28

I get this any time my weight goes up or down - I assumed it was the scar tissue stretching. It usually goes away after a few days but is quite painful sometimes. I had c sections 9 and 7 years ago and the first one was a bit of a mess so I wonder if that’s something to do with it. I’d kind of assumed it was normal!

Edited to add that this has happened to me due to weight loss (and gain) without medication so not necessarily a side effect of the medication, just weight change.

MagnoliaTreePetals · 04/08/2025 09:33

I get this every so often with my C section scar (DD is now 28 years old).
I think I must rub it in my sleep as it can get a bit red as well.
I use a very basic cream, zinc and caster oil, to sooth it and it stops pretty quickly. I also find a good aloe vera gel works well.
I thought that by losing so much weight (4.5 stone) it would stop happening, but it had a little 'episode' last week. Just one of those things!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 04/08/2025 09:44

@midlifesharp yes it stopped itching once it healed but does still itch a little occasionally. There was no warning that it might reopen, just felt a little sore and when I checked it, it was open. My scar is a bit ragged and I don’t think it was stitched well so that could be part of why it easily reopened 3yrs later once the skin changed/moved.

The itching you’re having sounds pretty bad. Mine was never that itchy. I did start reacting at the injection site after several months though and that was unbelievably itchy. It’s calming down now after around 6mths. Is it only along the scar that it he’s so much? Or is it spreading above it too?

as others have said, you probably ought to use hydrocortisone cream and maybe an anti-fungal just to be sure.
