How can I get on Mounjaro?

Hi everyone, I'm just wondering how those on Mounjaro are getting the injections? I've heard mixed things... ie. It can only be purchased (but from where? There are loads of sites, how do I work out which ones are legit?), it can only be prescribed, only a certain group of people are allowed it, etc. I have a brain condition that worsens with weight gain and I have always struggled with my weight. I'm seeing my consultant at the hospital tomorrow, shall I ask him about it? Thank you

Monj.co.uk contains safe GPhC registered pharmacies and prices.

you must be bmi > 30 or > 27 with weight related conditions or certain ethnicities are eligible at a lower bmi

nhs has a much much higher eligibility criteria, your consultant might be able to advise if your condition would make you eligible.

Twelftytwo · 03/08/2025 19:43

Most people buy it privately online (it's still prescribed by a doctor)
There are many providers out there, you just need to look for reviews online and check they're a registered pharmacy.
There's a list of providers and prices at monj.uk

Ones I have used are Zava and Swift.

Be wary of ones that tie you into a monthly subscription or use referral voucher codes.

You will have to declare other health conditions and your weight/height and they'll say whether it's suitable or not.

This is really helpful, thanks so much for your reply

That's great, thank you. Can I ask, if you don't mind, are you still using it? How much roughly am I looking at having to spend on it? How many injections do I receive in one purchase? Thank you in advance

I am using it,
Prices are on the monj site but I have spent £100-145 per pen (price rises with higher strength). You officially get 4 weekly doses per pen but it's possible to get 5.

VashtaNerada · 03/08/2025 19:52

I went for Boots which is more expensive but I felt reassured by the big brand name! It’s slightly over £200 a month. Customer service is great though and you can message a doctor with questions and they respond really quickly.

InfoSecInTheCity · 03/08/2025 19:54

As above most buy it privately. Im one of the ‘lucky’ few prescribed it on the NHS for Diabetes, insulin and metformin weren’t doing the job so they added Mounjaro which has been amazing. Lost 5 stones gone from obese to healthy, dropped from size 22/24 to size 10/12 and most amazingly been able to stop the insulin and metformin completely.

Yes, I think I would feel the same using a big brand name. Very helpful, thank you

Thank you @Twelftytwo. I'm going to have a look online now and hopefully order some

Go onto Asda pharmacy and fill all the application out. If they approve it then it’ll cost you about £125 a month and they deliver it

Testerical · 03/08/2025 20:08

Don’t waste your money on a big brand supplier because it’s a household name. Obviously do not buy it off social media or an online pharmacy with shit reviews, but why would you spend £200 on something that you can get for £100 (starting dose)? Drugs in the UK are very heavily regulated.

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 03/08/2025 20:13

@diamondslushiex , in order to purchase from an online pharmacy you need to have a BMI of 30+. Some diabetics and those with a BMI of 40+ can be prescribed on the NHS.

perimenopoppet · 03/08/2025 20:27

Came on to say the same as @Testerical- I had the same gut feeling before starting that I wanted to use a known name and was suspicion of so many pharmacies with often stupid names, but research quickly showed me that the product is exactly the same from all the providers - there is literally only one brand of MJ pen available - and the prices vary wildly. You are essentially being charged up to double what you need to pay, for the name /additional support in the form of apps/bots/recipes etc that you can easily find for free here and other online forums!

if you choose any pharmacy from monj.co.uk you can be sure they are legal and the meds they send you are real. All have a mix of good and bad reviews on trust pilot, it does seem to be luck, but that’s more about delivery timescales and packaging and responses if there is an issue with order.

Sorry to jump on your post but I know nothing about this and have a question.

If you have to have a bmi over 30, how are all the healthy weight women I seem to know getting them?

VashtaNerada · 03/08/2025 21:01

@AchillesAndPatroclus (good username) - I can only think they’re doing it fraudulently - unless they’re just heavier than they look. I had to submit some very unflattering photos in tight clothing to get mine!

Assuming that you know these women's BMIs, fraud and lies.

HansHolbein · 03/08/2025 21:03

@AchillesAndPatroclus Some of them will be lying. That will soon be stopping as the height and weight verification is becoming very strict.

Some of them will have started out with a BMI 30 or above and are now at a healthy weight and using them to maintain that weight.

I am now a healthy weight (BMI about 19 - starting BMI 38) and I am still taking them, and I will be for life. I take them to maintain my weight - which is allowed.

Bit like other prescribed medications, if you stop taking them (the medication doesn’t cure the problem, it treats it) the symptoms come back. Same with WLI for the majority of people.

SilenceInside · 03/08/2025 21:03

@AchillesAndPatroclus

Their BMI is higher than you think.
Their BMI is 27 and they have a weight related health condition.
Their BMI is 27 and they are of certain ethnicities where 27 is considered obese.
They are fraudulently accessing it by lying and providing false information to a legitimate provider.
They are accessing it via an illegal method ie a friend or contact is passing on legitimate medication.
They are accessing who knows what from a dodgy source, and getting vials of liquid that might be anything.

Those are all the explanations that I can think of at the moment.

FurForksSake · 03/08/2025 21:11

It’s not quite as simple as “purchasing” it has to be prescribed whether via nhs or privately. Instructions are that your weight should be verified prior to prescription, that might be via a video or a video call and you will need to submit full length photos, copies of id and complete medical questionnaires. Your condition must be disclosed and they will then decide whether you are eligible and suitable to be prescribed the medication. There are lots of good companies and some that are not so good, follow the links above and they will help show pricing and availability.

FurForksSake · 03/08/2025 21:12

Definitely speak to your doctor tomorrow about it and whether there are any reasons not to take it.

Plantymcplantface · 03/08/2025 21:15

Is recommend My Family Chemist as a provider - good clinicians, through in their approach and will liaise with your GP. Expect £135-158 per pen (one month supply). I have lost 13kg to date. My pre diabetes has reversed and I have dropped a dress size. I expect to stay on monjaro for another two years at least. For me the health benefits are worth the cost.

Bread121bread · 03/08/2025 23:27

During my annual diabetes review I discussed it with my hospital doctor and they wrote a letter to my GP asking them to perscibe it.

I'm type 1 diabetetic with couple of other illnesses and obese.

Dm friend just got told this week since she is on insulin, she needs a consultant letter. She has type 2 diabetes but uses insulin with two other tablets. She got referred to see a consultant instead.

TheHandmaidsSnail · 04/08/2025 10:20

I started with MedExpress, they are one of the biggest. No point paying more from Boots, it's made in the same factory. Just check it is a licensed pharmacy, and use the discount code thread on here to never pay over the odds. Good luck.
