Horrendous nausea and bloating

Started on Mounjaro two weeks ago and initially I felt fine. Felt a little nauseous but managed to eat small amounts and plenty of water and I lost 3 kilos in my first week.

Did my second injection last Saturday and this week has been awful. I’ve been so nauseous I have struggled to eat, felt extremely constipated despite drinking lots of water and I’m knackered.

I really can’t cope with another week like that so I’m debating whether to resign myself to the fact it’s not for me.

I have friends who have advised me to stop drinking sparkling water and eating fruit but they’re about the only thing I can stand atm.

Has anyone got any advice as I have terrible health issues and urgently need to drop 2 stone.

Thank you !

The same thing happened to me in week 2. I didn’t poo for about 4 days and was in terrible discomfort and felt so sick. I eventually took a mild laxative and that did the trick. Was incredibly painful when I did go but I was ok after that. I’m 3 months in and still get the occasional bout of constipation but nothing as bad as that first one. Only you can tell if it’s bearable and worth it.

I’m not sure if I should be taking some sort of supplements? Medexpress have said I’ve probably not eaten enough and my body is adjusting but I haven’t felt this sick since I had severe morning sickness !!

Have MedExpress given you any advice on what you should be eating?

My provider gave me a sample eating plan and advice on what supplements to take. They suggested avoiding processed food where possible, gave me approximate calories to stick to and advised increase protein along with some examples of what to eat in a day and a few sample recipes
Fizzy drinks can increase bloating in some people so maybe try a switch to squash? Also fruit ferments in the gut as MJ slows digestion down so can also cause bloating in some.
I find nausea is worse if I don't eat so, if it were me, I'd be planning a small breakfast, light lunch and small main meal and making sure I ate them. Good luck

If that is the extent of their advice I'd be looking for a better provider from next month!

@QueenOfHiraeth would you mind sharing the sample eating plan?

timesaretough · 26/07/2025 21:08

Yes I wasn’t overly impressed by their support tbh. I hadn’t thought about the fruit fermenting !

Have you got any Pepto Bismol? On the odd occasion I feel a bit nauseous, that solves the problem. 10 weeks in I’ve accepted that constipation is the price I have to pay so I now take a daily laxido and that solves the problem.

Only you can know if it’s right for you but if it were me, I’d try all the over the counter remedies first before moving on. From what I can gather, for most people, the side effects do pass.

QueenOfHiraeth · 26/07/2025 21:46

@DuffRose I'm not sure where it is as I've been on MJ over a year now. I'll have a look about and let you know if I find it.
My first provider had a call with a nutritionist and the main point for me was the increased protein, I was told to aim for 100g/day.
Apparently ChatGPT or other AIs can do a good meal plan if you use them

@timesaretoughThis is all very good advice.
for me personally, that was not enough as i am super sensitive to the drug. The only way i am managing (3 months in) is to split my dose so instead of 2.5mg every 7 days, i take 1.25mg every 4 days (could do every 3.5 days but that would be a faff).
That way i get suppression but it is a manageable level and i am not as nauseous.
2.5mg is 60 clicks, 1.25mg is 30 clicks.
Also:
For constipation: flaxseed, kiwi and prunes are the best
For nausea: mint tea really helps
Good luck

If you can stick with it, it does tend to wear off. In the early weeks I was the same: nauseated, indigestion and constipation. I had to sleep sat up in bed some nights. I then had a horrible bout of diarrhoea.

Esomeprazole helped. As did an anti-sickness tablet and plenty of water. Low fat, low carb simple small meals. When it got bad I did 10 days between jabs and counted the clicks on the syringe to give a smaller dose of 1.25mg.

It soon wore off and now, a few months in I’m fine. I’m quite sensitive to the drug and take a small dose 3.75mg. I’ve lost 19kg and am nearly normal BMI.

Hello @timesaretough . I am so sorry you are feeling rotten on the MJ.

I experienced exactly the same problem both at the start, and a few times since. However I stuck with it and am now 4.5 stone lighter, and so, so much happier. These are the things that worked for me....

Nausea/indigestion:
No fizzy water or fizzy drinks (occasional glasses of champagne seem to be fine!)
Fizzy water always resulted in nausea and indigestion, like you I was reluctant to give it up, but it made a huge difference.
Eat regularly. I eat 3 smallish meals a day. If I leave it too long before eating, the nausea kicks back in, and then it is difficult to eat.
No fatty foods/cream etc,
Minimal carbohydrates.
Avoid acidic foods eg oranges, tangerines etc. Pineapple was an absolute disaster for me recently, took me completely by surprise!

Constipation:
2 psyllium husk capsules every morning, with a glass of water
prunes at the ready if I feel I haven't 'gone' for 24 hours, just 3 seem to do the trick.
Also linseeds sprinkled on a salad/yoghurt

Drink water lots and lots and lots. flavour it with lemon or lime slices etc when you get bored of plain water.

My diet is mainly protein and vegetables. I don't eat much fruit, maybe the occasional apple/pear/melon as they are much gentler on the stomach; but once I have had some chicken/fish/eggs and some vegetables I am usually no longer hungry so don't eat any fruit afterwards.

I do hope you can find a way through it.

Sparkling water and fruit are undoubtedly going to make any bloating worse. Sorry.

I strongly recommend taking a probiotic with digestive enzymes.
