Would I qualify on this basis?

My BMI is approaching 29 and I have been looking into WLI.

I know I need to have an additional health issue to qualify for a private prescription with this BMI.

In 2019 I underwent fertility investigations. During a scan I was told I had polycystic ovaries. It informed my IVF treatment plan, but it’s never been mentioned outside of IVF. I haven’t spoken about it with my GP and I haven’t sought treatment.

it makes me wonder whether it’s actually on my notes? I’m assuming the details of my IVF treatment would be, but whilst it was funded by the NHS it was a private clinic that undertook the treatment.

Would I be considered to officially have PCOS on this basis? I’m worried that any checks may not bring it up.

thanks

You can access your notes via the NHS app to check.

Thanks @26dX but my concern is about whether I’ve been “officially diagnosed” and if it’s on my medical records.

Are medical records checked?

@pleasedrivecarefullythey just send a letter to your GP for record they don’t have access x

My BMI was 29 when I started and my records were checked to clarify I have PCOS. This was via Voy and Medexpress but I don't know if this is widespread practice.

Thanks @VelociraptorsVelociRappingive just checked the NHS app and my notes only go back to 2023. The fertility investigations were in 2018/2019

That doesn’t sound right - I’d query it with your GP surgery. Your notes should go all the way back to your year of birth.

I have started it with a BMI of 28 but high cholesterol. They have not asked for proof of this which is concerning really. I presume they write to my GP to inform them I am on it though.

SevernWonders · 28/07/2025 14:42

Zava didn't verify any of my health conditions with my GP, they did give me a letter to download to give to the GP but I didn't bother, just mentioned it when I was seeing them for something else.

Bit off topic but it might be a good idea for you to ask for HbA1C test from your GP anyway and potentially the result of that would be helpful. PCOS is a risk factor for T2 diabetes, you are more likely to be insulin resistant which is one of the things Mounjaro treats because it increases hormones that create insulin in response to excess sugar.

You should consider regular HbA1C testing to monitor for pre-diabetes anyway if you have PCOS especially if you have any of these symptoms:

  • frequent bouts of thrush
  • skin tags around neck, underarms, groin
  • darkened/velvety skin around neck, underarms, groin
  • high waist to height ratio
  • thirst
  • waking in the night to pee
