Has anyone not had stomach/bowel side effects?

I’m interested to give WLI a go, but am afraid of side effects. Headaches and nausea I could cope with, but not diarrhoea or constipation. I already have a very sensitive/reactive bowel and don’t want to do anything that might make that worse. Are such side effects inevitable or are some people just not affected that way? Are some brands more or less likely to have this side effect? Thanks.

I haven’t had any side effects at all, bar feeling a bit cold for a few weeks early on. Have lost nearly 5st since the start of the year.

Gettingbysomehow · 23/07/2025 19:24

I've had no side effects at all. I'm 5 stone down. One more to go.

HansHolbein · 23/07/2025 19:24

I’ve lost just over 8st since October. No side effects.

Stomach issues are mainly linked to what you eat/drink. So not enough fibre and water is constipation or something fatty/sugary/spicy is diarrhoea and vomiting.

I've only had one episode of each and now take psyllium husk and am regular if you know what I mean.

No idea about what caused the other as I'm careful about what I eat but it wasn't very pleasant and lasted 4 days. As I lost a lot of water I did become dehydrated which complicated it but it was over, I survived and never had it again.

If you're going to benefit from the injection and avoiding it to avoid stomach issues then you have to weigh up the pros and cons.

I'm 17 weeks in and have lost 40lb so it's a no brainer now I've done it but I can appreciate you being cautious.

I’ve not had any side effects so far, but I’ve been quite cautious about what I eat and drink

No impact on my bowels at all. I did have a little bit of indigestion the first week, which Gaviscon solved. That was it. I also don't lose as fast as some though, which is fine with me.

It's not inevitable at all, but equally nobody can tell you how you're going to react. It's really about whether you're comfortable with the risk or not. If you have sensitive guts anyway, perhaps it would be best to start it when you're going to be at home for a few days? If nothing else, removes the risk of feeling anxious.

Terrible issues with ozempic, but not with Mounjaro.

spanieleyes · 23/07/2025 20:11

No side effects at all except one day feeling queezy when I moved up a dosage, over 5 stone lost so far.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 23/07/2025 20:17

The manufacturer of Mounjaro makes it clear that both diarrhoea and constipation are ‘very common’ side effects, affecting more than one in ten people. There will be people who are unaffected and you can gather anecdotal evidence if you want but I’m afraid that the clinical trials show a high likelihood of experiencing those side effects, especially at first and when moving up the doses.

On day 2, I had loose stools for 2-3 hours. No discomfort and that’s the only time I’ve had it.

I’ve avoided anything high in fat, which I had read triggers a funny tummy. Not sure if that’s a complete coincidence or whether I’ve just been lucky.

Other than that two hour window (which could have been not linked to the jab), I’ve had no symptoms or side effects whatsoever.

No gastric side effects here. Quite the opposite actually. Pre MJ, I have IBS symptoms (food sensitivity type), and have had to have gluten free/low FODMAP diet for years but still end up having bloating and mild upset tummy frequently.

MJ seems to have cured that. I eat gluten bagels several times a week, have the occasional meal of real pasta, and eat beans/lentils all the time, and never get upset tummy or bloated any more. I sometimes have Weetabix for breakfast. I couldn't do that before.

Forgot to say as well, I am going up the doses very slowly. I have just ordered pen 6 I think, and only just going up to 7.5mg. I stick on a dose that just makes me have a 'normal' appetite, i.e. satisfied with smaller meals, only the odd healthy snack between meals, and comfortably eating around 1400 calories a day. I eat clean, whole, homemade meals and avoid processed foods (except for the bagels!). I eat a lot of moderately spicy food (Indian, Korean, Malaysian etc) and it has no impact (although never been a fan of really hot curries, so don't eat those).

I was constipated on the odd occasion when I didn't have enough fibre in my diet, but a couple of ryvita a day sorted that.

The only time I was running for the loo was when I overdid the cocktails and greasy food on an AI holiday. Now I am absolutely fine.

Kewforyourlife · 24/07/2025 13:02

Ive had nothing, not a single side effect, not even a headache or any nausea. Be careful what you wish for because im thinking its not working because of the distinct lack of side effects!

PurpleCoo · 24/07/2025 15:53

@Kewforyourlife are you not getting the positive effects like reduced food noise, reduced appetite and being full more easily? I get all of those, but just enough to make me into a 'normal' person, not extreme appetite loss etc
