Mounjaro after breast cancer?

Just what’s in the title really…has anyone who’s previously had breast cancer gone on to have the mounjaro injections? I can’t find much info online about risks, it all seems to talk about thyroid cancer and pancreatic issues. Anyone have any info they’d be happy to share? TIA

My breast cancer was 12 years ago now but my GP raised no concerns. If you are still having appointments with your cancer care team, would you be able to ask them?

GiveMeWordGames · 20/07/2025 08:06

I had DCIS almost three years ago. There was nothing in any of the research or articles I read to suggest any risks or issues and when I started my GP didn't raise any concerns.

After nearly four months on mounjaro I'm nearly 3st down. Obesity itself is a risk factor for BC so I'm happy that what I'm doing is positive for that aspect of my health.

Hi!
I had breast cancer 5 years ago and piled on weight following chemo and while on endocrine therapy.
I changed oncologist last year (long story), to a very experienced guy who leads the cancer unit of a big London hospital.
The first thing he did was send me to an endocrinologist, who tested all sorts of things and declared me insulin resistant. Apparently very very common in breast cancer patients. I then tried Metformin for a while, but had bad side effects. Then went onto Mounjaro. It's been life changing. I've lost 30 kgs and I'm feeling better than I did before cancer!

Thanks so much for your replies! I’ve recently been signed off from the oncology team 🙌 so I don’t have any upcoming appointments…I might give the hospital a ring though to ask if I can have a very quick telephone appointment.

I finished my treatment December 2022, and I’m still trying to lose the weight I piled on…been doing calorie counting, slimming world, fasting etc but the food noise is the issue. My friend has lost over 6 stone on mounjaro, and to be perfectly honest I’m jealous 😂 but thought my previous cancer would be an automatic no-no.

I have a bit of hope now…thanks so much!

Well, I managed to get in touch with my oncologist secretary this morning, who happened to be sitting in the same room as my oncologist, so she put me on hold and asked her there and then…and unfortunately she said she could offer any advice as it’s not her area of specialism and so they won’t advise on any kind of weightloss jabs. Sigh.

Can I ask if you decided to start the jabs ? X

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 29/08/2025 19:32

@RIRO30 no…I decided that if I couldn’t get my oncologist’s go ahead, I wouldn’t proceed. So I’m still researching but tbh with the recent increase in prices, that’s kind of made up my mind for me. So…I’m still fat!! 😩

Yes I had a tumour on my ovary 2 years ago removed. I just got declined mounjaro. Fat forever it looks like 😭😭

Picking up on this old thread of mine…I was chatting to my GP about this, and he was actually supportive of me starting jabs, if only theoretically because I wouldn’t qualify for them on the NHS. Now, out of interest, I’ve tried applying online, and been refused - presumably on the basis of my history of breast cancer. So…if I really wanted to go ahead, how would I get them anyway if online prescribers refuse me?! Anyone have any experience of this?

Yes love. I had to use a different prescriber to the one who rejected me, and I didn’t mention my medical history, and I was accepted with 3 different prescribers. The prescriber who declined me said they will only accept me if I get a letter from my doctor but I wasn’t bothered to do that

KentishMama · 29/05/2026 19:39

In my experience they're fine to prescribe as long as you're not in active treatment (i.e. not doing chemo or radiotherapy). You said you've been discharged from oncology so I'm guessing you're out of that phase?

Did they tell you that the cancer history was the reason for the rejection? Do you definitely meet all of the other criteria?

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 29/05/2026 20:54

Hi, thanks both for your replies. @RIRO30 that’s interesting, and kind of what my GP hinted at. Can I ask how long you’ve been on it and if it’s been successful for you? @KentishMama yes, I finished treatment December 2022, and although the online prescribers didn’t specify that it was because of the cancer, but there was nothing else I answered that could have caused the rejection. I’m definitely in the criteria range.

Worked wonders for me I am so happy. I’ve been on it for 4 months and I’ve lost 2 stone. Oncologist was fine with me taking it and told me it is my choice! So when applying I just did not mention my history. The one time I did mention my history I was declined

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 30/05/2026 13:39

Well, I applied last night using the Asda Online Doctor service. I was completely honest about my diagnosis, treatment and end date, and the fact that I was (thankfully!) cured and I got approved! They’re also contacting g my GP to advise that I’m starting the treatment. First dose being delivered tomorrow. So thank you to everyone who commented on the thread, and if anyone’s interested, I’ll keep you updated 😊

That's great news @TwoBigNoisyBoys . I hope it works brilliantly for you.

I'm now over 6 stone down and maintaining. It's been worth every penny.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 30/05/2026 15:34

Thanks @GiveMeWordGames 🥰 what a great result for you! I bet you’re so glad you made that decision!
