Nice health benefits to losing weight/WLI

I’ve been on BP meds for a couple of years and my BP has hovered around the 128/77 mark. I do regular checks to make sure it doesn’t go up. Anyway, although I’ve only lost 12lbs on MJ, last night my BP was 119/66 and I was so pleased to see it happily in the normal range rather than the elevated range.

I read somewhere (not sure if it’s true) that MJ itself can reduce inflammation in the body and that can help things like BP as well. Although this is a relatively small NSV, for me it feels like a big thing and encourages me to keep at it as all of this can only be good for my health. I’d love to lose enough so I can come off BP meds completely.

Aside from weight loss, have you noticed any other health benefits?

Same as you. My BP has lowered a bit. I'm hoping it will continue and I'll be able to reduce the dose of meds at next review. My resting heart rate has also decreased, always been on the high side but is now consistently in the 70s rather than the 80s. Still earlyish days for me as haven't even been on it 3 months and still have a lot to lose, so hoping positive effects will increase with time!

Yep within about 3 weeks of starting MJ my BP was comfortably within normal range compared to being right at the top end / close to being medicated for years before.

My DH is on mounjaro and his HB1AC went down 2 points, meaning he’s no longer prediabetic

PandyMoanyMum · 11/07/2025 09:17

I’m on WLI (mounjaro), I’ve lost 23lb and I can walk upstairs without my knees and ankles hurting. The weirdest thing is that my snoring (likely sleep apnoea) stopped the day I did my first injection. So weird!

My BP has dropped too, though it's a little problematic for me as it's dropped enough to make me dizzy when I stand. I do a lot of gardening and it's become quite difficult. My BP was on the higher side of normal pre MJ, now it's right at the bottom of the normal range, bordering on low. I've only lost 5kg so far so I would guess it's a mechanism of the drug rather than weightloss.

Benefits wise, I have noticed that my regular and quite debilitating headaches have stopped. They kicked in a few years back when peri started, possibly made worse by HRT, but I realised yesterday that I haven't had a single one in the whole time I have been taking MJ. My persistent brain fog also disappeared within 24 hours of my first injection. I had blamed my brain fog on peri, but now I realise it must have been diet related/blood sugar/metabolic.

I feel great overall, way better than before my first injection.

I dont know if it can be attributed to MJ, but I've suffered from an inflammatory brain disease since 2012.
I've had various treatments including steroids, immunosupressants, and biological therapy. My last MRI was in 2020 and showed I was still suffering from brain inflammation although at a low level.
I'm also on epilepsy medication and as its been 5 years since my last seizure, my neurologist sent me for an MRI to make sure it was safe to stop taking. I'd been on MJ for 6 weeks at this point.
It showed no inflammation at all.

I'm fairly gobsmacked as no other treatment, including Infliximab, succeeded in reducing inflammation to nothing. Since 2012, I've tried everything, brain surgery, every drug treatment, gained 5 stone in weight and developed seizures. I was removed from immune treatment during the pandemic for safety and haven't been treated directly for this condition since.

I dont know if the disease has naturally run its course, but it seems highly coincidental that at no other time in 13 years I have been free of inflammation, but I am so grateful I can start to reduce epilepsy meds and live a normal life.

@Coffeeandallthebooks I also have an inflammatory illness (rheumatoid arthritis) and have tried approx 12 drugs over the years. These have required continual monitoring so I have a lot of data about my inflammatory markers (crp and esr).

Due my next blood test shortly, but within a month of starting my crp has halved!

Coincidence? Possibly. But I'm thrilled. None of the 'gold standard' RA treatments have had this much effect.

Will update when I have the next blood results.

Coffeeandallthebooks · 11/07/2025 11:40

That is really good news @BerfyTigot , RA is horrible and so many anti inflammatory drugs have severe side effects. Halfing your crp is fantastic, please post again when you get your results. I have my fingers crossed for you!

Another one whose blood pressure has gone from being far too high to a bit on the low side leading to dizziness at times.

But - no chub rub any more, reduced blood pressure, PCOS symptoms have eased and I’m now in a regular cycle for the first time in my entire life (absolutely mind blowing going from one period a year to one every 4-5 weeks), back pain significantly reduced, can paint my own toenails with ease, feel like a whole new world of clothes has opened up to me, generally just feel so much healthier and like my body is properly nourished.

SilenceInside · 11/07/2025 11:50

I'll add to the list as another one who's blood pressure has reduced. When I started Mounjaro my BP was high despite being medicated for it. My BP has fallen to the optimal range which is amazing as it has never been this low consistently.

I have been on the wli for 7 months and have lost 60lbs.

my biggest side effect atm is my feet don’t hurt in an afternoon at work ! Also I’m not really struggling in this heat - I was last year.

husband has been taking for about four months and his snoring is a million times better, hardly ever hear him now . Where as round about November time I was seriously considering finding a way to sleep separately for the first time in 20 years
he’s lost 3 stone.

Helpingabit · 11/07/2025 12:41

The biggest downside is probably that between us we have spent £1500 approx on the jabs .

I couldn’t say how many years it’s adding to my life but obviously in that respect it is a small price to pay.

husband , who is less overweight than me will probably use them for the next few months, two/ three stone and he will be a healthy weight.

I would imagine I will use them indefinitely in some way (so long at its safe /not causing any effects)

we do save some money on food and takeaways

I’ve stopped biting my nails. I also had a habit of scratching the skin on my scalp which I’ve stopped doing too. I’m only two months in and I didn’t take my blood pressure when I stared, so I’ve just done it so I can then check it in a couple of months time.

I really wish it had stopped me picking and scratching my scalp 😩

I am awaiting assessment for ADHD. As well as the food noise, I feel just generally less “noisy”, calmer, more able to process things. I’ve seen stuff about the links to dopamine hits and wonder if it’s this
