Ulcerative colitis and weight loss jabs

I intend to speak to my GP about this but, before they laugh me out of the building, I just wondered if anyone had any experience of this. I had one online pharmacy say they wouldn’t prescribe it but another (albeit less legit one) wouldn’t. I’m fed up with my weight, I don’t have time to exercise and just want to get it sorted without aggravating my condition. If it makes a difference I haven’t had a flare up for at least 2 years.

Hi. I was in the same situation as you (mild UC in remission for 2.5 years). I am taking low dose mesalazine. In the end I didn’t volunteer having had the UC (justifying it to myself that it’s not active) but did list the mesalazine as current medication. My GP said that research was showing that the anti-inflammatory effects of the Mounjaro was actually beneficial for UC! I’ve been on it since March with no issues so far

I’ve found the anti inflammatory nature of the jabs very beneficial for calming my UC.

Interesting. I thought it was going to be a clear cut no. Does an online pharmacy not do any sort of health check or doctor’s records? I’m on 3x 400mg mesalazine a day. I don’t know if that is a low dose or not?
Which jabs are you taking?

I am in complete remission from UC, which was always at the mild to moderate end of symptoms, and have been discharged by my consultant a couple of years ago. I answer no to the question ‘have you been diagnosed with serious IBD such as crohns or UC?’ as mine was never classed as serious. The pharmacist at my GP wrote to me to say I should have declared it to them and asked if I would contact them directly. I didn’t.

Did you still manage to get the jabs?

Yes, but because I didn’t declare it. I’ve been on websites before where I answered yes, and it straight away said they couldn’t /wouldn’t prescribe.

SweetChilliGirl · 09/07/2025 19:28

I have microscopic colitis and didn't declare it as it's 'not serious' so could answer that question with a 'no'. The jabs, which I've been on for three months have sorted my bowels right out!

Try one of the pharmacies which is GP-led. It may be that the pharmacies where it’s the pharmacist issuing prescriptions, might be a bit wary over a medical condition they won’t have all the information on. There are some providers where your application is checked by a GP first.

Fakingitnotmakingit · 09/07/2025 19:34

I have Crohn's Colitis and take ustekiminab 8 weekly via self injection. I declared to cloud pharmacy who declined my application, then declared to Asda who approved it with photo evidence supplied.

Had 17 weeks of mounjaro (Jan 25 - May 25), went from 13.5st to 9st2lb (87kg to 58kg).

I had reached the obese category of BMI and am now in healthy range and have not felt better.

It truly can be life changing.

Flyhighlittlepigeon · 11/07/2025 03:54

I was approved declaring my UC for wegovy with Numan thru their website. As I said it’s actually helped my bowels.

cherrycherrypickin · 11/07/2025 04:16

Be aware that they are likely to let your gp know. On the letters that they've sent to my gp it usually says something like "if you know a reason they should not be taking Mounjaro please contact us", so that might be an issue if it is contraindicated.

Thanks for all your comments. My first prescription is on its way!

I have Crohn’s disease and I’m just starting on a really low dose and will increase very slowly. I’m starting on 1mg,.
I would advise you pay for an in person consultation with a doctor rather than an online pharmacy. Just for that early reassurance,
