Struggling to eat

Hi! I'm on my second week of Mounjaro (2.5mg dose) with around 4/5 stone to lose to get to my target. I've had no side effects so far and feel pretty good. The thing is that I'm finding it so hard to eat, I'm not getting hungry at all and the thought of eating anything is really off putting. So in some ways it's working perfectly! I've tracked my calories and during the past week I'm averaging about 700 calories a day which, even though I'm pretty sedentary, probably isn't enough. I'm eating salads, fish/pulses and beans/chicken as well but I'm concerned that I'm going to lose too much too fast/lose muscle/miss out on nutrients/becoming weak and feeble.
Does anyone know if this is firstly, something I should be worried about (or just shut up and enjoy the losses) and also how to stay healthy and maintain energy throughout this period?

Could you perhaps drink a couple of pints of full fat milk to replace some of your water intake?

This level of suppression will pass as your body becomes accustomed to the medication. I’ve not had to do it as I have been able to eat all the way along but many people swear by meal replacement drinks/shakes to get the nutrients in and calories in when they feel like this.

I find I might not want to eat anything but know I should so will eat what I have made. I exercise a lot so know I need fuel for that! I also find nuts a good way to up calories and protein. I can almost always manage a good handful of cashews!

Thanks both for the advice, I'll grab a few protein drinks today and I think I'll try to get some exercise, that could help my appetite a little.

I struggled like this at the beginning but just made sure to eat as much as I could. I’m 7 months in now, still on 2.5mg and have a much better appetite

I struggled with this a bit too. I stocked up on high protein yoghurts (especially the pouch type) and also used meal replacement shakes with a portion of collagen thrown in - very important to keep eye on protein intake.

Best of luck.

I used shakes and made smoothies with added protein powder. Drinking 2 litres of full fat milk is a very bad idea--the sheer volume would have had me puking.

I wouldn’t worry about it, it’s very common to feel that level of suppression. As PP advised, focus on protein and keep going.

I suggested a couple of pints, which is just over a litre. Spread out over a day it really isn’t that much!

LOL sorry I misread that as litres. Which is a lot of liquid in addition to water.

Grab a piece of cheese, chicken and drink full fat milk to keep up your protein intake.
