I’ve been back and forward on wether to start monjouro for months now and I’ve decided to go for it , maybe half the initial doses and see if I can ease in really slowly.

i want to be as ready as possible and give myself the best chance.

im really phobic about nausea and being sick so if I can possibly avoid it I’ll do anything.

what supplements etc should I get in ready ?

Avoid fatty foods. Eat as plain as possible. I’ve only felt ill after eating creamy pasta or fried foods. Stay at as low a dose as works for you

Get Pepto Bismol. I hate it but it's absolutely brilliant for helping with nausea and sulphur burps if you're unfortunate enough to get them.

Agree with avoiding fatty or high dairy foods.

Mummytig · 02/07/2025 19:27

Drink loads of water and agree avoid fatty and rich foods

Don't eat late. If I do, I get dreadful heartburn. Same with anything greasy, too spicy or very citrus.

I would advise against starting on a half dose. 2.5mg is just about enough to prepare your body for the medication.
Buy some electrolytes as dizziness is common and often associated with dehydration. Have protein powder in a shake each day if you can to help with muscle wastage. Add some collagen to help with skin. Good luck

Small portions. If you've been on a lot of diets already, you might be tempted to make big plates of low cal food to 'fill you up'. No! On MJ, your digestion slows down, so a small plate of nutrient dense food is better.

As others say, avoid fatty greasy food; I also had a bad time with gluten but have been ok with spice. I was fine with some dairy but not too much, so greek yoghurt is good but not halloumi.

Eat dinner several hours before bedtime, and try to move (or just not lie down!) after a meal to aid digestion.

Peppermint tea and ginger tea were good for me when I had nausea.

Drink loads of water (min. 2l per day) and have electrolytes too.

Eat enough, and eat well. When your appetite plummets it can be tempting to just not eat anything, but you need to make sure you're getting your protein and nutrients. Not enough cals will leave you exhausted; not enough protein will lead to losing muscle. I build most of my meals around protein, and also have clear whey drinks to top it up,

Oh yeah, and don't try and mess around with the system - 2.5mg is the medically advised starting point for a reason.

SilenceInside · 02/07/2025 20:20

Sometimes they just can't be avoided, if your body reacts strongly to the medication that's beyond your control to a certain extent.

Obviously don't eat a ginormous greasy takeaway the day before your first injection, and don't live off junk food whilst you're on it.

I agree with nutrient dense small meals, rather than volume eating, as @lookathatbookcase describes. And just start with the 2.5mg, as that's already a low starting dose that isn't intended to produce weight loss for the majority.

Start the medication as it is prescribed. If you don’t get on with it, you can then talk to your prescriber about playing with dosage but don’t go in customising before you even know how you will respond.

I have been on MJ for over a year now and it hasn’t made me nauseous or sick at all. Not once. And I eat full fat cheese, yoghurt etc. Don’t start cutting foods out of your diet just because somebody else had a reaction to them. You have to wait and see how YOU respond! Good luck with it.

eleanorwish · 03/07/2025 08:22

I followed all the advice in previous posts, being very cautious about what I ate to begin with. I then introduced different foods to see how I reacted, and found out I can anything. The main side effect is that some foods repeat on me from the day before, but that’s usually the day after jab day

SunandMoor · 23/07/2025 16:58

I agree with all the advice previously given but one extra thing I have found is to use Myfitness pal to track my calories and I think this has helped me to eat sensibly and a balanced diet and focus on more protein than I might normally have. I saw a lady on a slimming world group with a plate packed full of a roast dinner and a syn free trifle and all that is the opposite of what you need on MJ. I am also adding flaxseeds to my morning yoghurt to help with constipation! I have not had any other SE. Good luck!

Starting on half of the starter dose because you’re afraid of side effects you are quite likely to get seems a little excessive tbh and is likely to lead to a rather pointless, waste of money first month.

Just take the 2.5, see how you are and if you have any side effects (most people don’t have any or only very mild ones) adjust diet/ dosage accordingly.
