Life 1yr+ after WLI - how are you doing?

I’ve just started WLI… Curious to see any experiences a decent amount of time after you’ve stopped jabbing.

The research says the weight goes back on quickly. And more quickly than after a traditional diet because the behavioral changes are fewer on WLI…

For me, I wanted to use WLI as a kickstart really - stop snacking, smaller portions, eat slower, healthier choices - and whilst it’s super early days for me (first week!) I’m doing all of those. For sure it’ll be harder without drug induced satiety or suppression but I am really hoping it’s then becomes less about willpower and more about habits? Or am I just naive?

I believe in the trial the manufacturer did everyone gained wait when they came off. And the average in just a few months was 17% regain.

I'm expecting to be on it in some form long term...

From what I understand everyone gains weight after stopping so it's been determined mounjaro can be taken long term. I have read lots of threads where people havent gained after they stop but it's all very short term. I'd like to hear from people well over a year afterwards, much longer ideally but I haven't seen anything

SilenceInside · 30/06/2025 23:05

The earliest threads on here about people taking Mounjaro are from February 2024 onwards, so the numbers of people at goal weight for a year or more is going to be limited. There are some thread here discussing maintaining, whether that’s people continuing to take a lower dose or managing without.

It’s not about habit though, you will need the willpower. MJ basically switches something off in your head, without it you will revert, or find it more difficult and therefore need a lot of willpower. Changing habits for me has been a doddle in MJ, changing habits for the previous 30 years had been a losing battle.

i intend to remain on this as long as I possibly can

I don’t feel like I’m going to regain the weight. I’m in my 20s and used to be slim. I was overweight for a short period - like 1.5 years and the second that my BMI hit obese, I took MJ and lost the weight. So luckily for me I was only technically obese for a very short time and hopefully it didn’t have a long term impact.

My BMI has been under 25 since October, and I’ve maintained a BMI of 20 pretty much throughout 2025. As I used to be this weight, it isn’t super difficult to revert back to my old lifestyle in terms of healthy diet/exercise. For me, I gained weight due to overeating and lack of exercise. Lots of deliveroo etc. I’ve stopped ordering takeaway, drinking alcohol, eating out - for the most part that has stopped me going off track.

However I do occasionally still take MJ as a loose maintenance - as I still had extra unopened pens in the fridge by the time I lost the weight. By loose maintenance, I don’t take the injections weekly anymore. I just take one if I feel I need it - I have had gaps of weeks or even months without in 2025. I only have one pen left so will be going it alone soon!

Exactly. People keep talking about “learning new habits” whereas for me and countless others, we always knew what we needed to do to be slim, what to eat, how much to exercise. We were fat, not thick. It’s very easy to stick to healthy habits when your body isn’t screaming at you that all you want is copious amounts of junk food. People who think they will be able to easily continue their “new habits” are often kidding themselves.

Regain is an issue after any diet. And people don’t tend to take WLI if they find controlling food easy. I figure I’ll deal with that at the time, at least I’ll just need to target calorie equilibrium rather than a significant deficit, the real hunger on top of the food noise is a double whammy on most diets.

At the end of the day, if I keep oscillating between a healthy BMI and overweight with help from mj it’s not ideal, but better than just sticking with being obese.

If you have a look on Reddit, there are American maintenance threads where there are people who have been off longer term as it’s been available there longer than here. One is called glpgrad or similar.
