Is it worth persevering with Mounjaro?

Hi, will make this quick.

i started mounjaro 4 days ago. For 3 days, I vomited non stop. Can’t have anti sickness meds as they affect my other meds. Today is the fourth day and I’ve finally stopped puking but still feel a bit nauseous. Like, unable go to out nauseous.

I go into surgery on July 30th for a general anesthetic for a copper coil fitting (this is my choice for GA so no comments on this please) and despite being a short surgery (i presume) I’ve read online i may have to stop the mounjaro. Going to call hospital tomorrow and check this.

this leaves me with a wasted dose, two if you include golden dose.

having spoke to my Gp two days ago, she advised i stop taking the mounjaro if i feel like i want to as there is a risk I’m throwing up my seizure medication.

but I’ve lost 8 pounds since four days ago!!! (My weight is over 20st) and I’m gutted I may have to stop it.

do you think i will get the sickness again if i dose on Thursday? Or do you think im past it by now

plus if i have to stop for my GA presumably I’ll have to start all over again, and I’ll get sick again!

I don’t know what to do!

Drink lots of water and eat little but often instead of big meals. Your body should start tolerating it in time but water really does help. Avoid greasy and fatty foods too.

I mean this very kindly and I’m sorry you are having a rough time but it sounds like you have a pretty complex medical profile and it would be flatly irresponsible for any of us to tell you whether or not to persevere. I’d suggest taking the advice of the medical team in charge of your copper coil fitting and your GP.

Edited

I have barely eaten anything in the last four days. A bit of fruit that’s it. Appetite has totally gone

Yeah I will ask just wondered if anyone had been through having to go back on it after a two week break

Contact your provider to see what they recommend. Sorry I was distracted when I read your post so I didn't read everything you wrote. The days of vomiting on a starter dose is worrying especially if you have only eaten fruit. It must be too strong for you and you don't want to risk epileptic seizures if your meds aren't being absorbed. You could try half a dose but we don't know whether you would react the same so it's a risk and best getting medical advice from your prescriber

No worries, I will do. I did try a bit of dry toast on the third day but yeah I just couldn’t keep it down. I react a similar way to hormonal contraception (hence copper coil) but I doubt the two are related. I’m going to ring the hospital tomorrow and ask.

It possibly is similar as mounjaro can affect female hormones like oestrogen as well as the GLP hormones that it targets. Hope you get a resolution.

I am on mounjaro. I am lucky though that my side effects are minimal.
my DD is also on it but she has suffered from similar side effects to you.
after a few days they tend to pass for her as her body gets used to it. She is also on anti seizure medication.
on a brighter note, she has lost over 100 pounds and I have lost over 70 pounds
I recently had surgery. I had to come off it 2 weeks before and was advised I could go back on it within a few days.
they tell you to come off it as the medication slows down digestion and you could aspirate any remaining food that is in your stomach. I was given anti sickness medication when they put me to sleep as a preventative measure

I know you had minimal side effects but did you find they started again after surgery?

TMI (if you don’t want to answer sorry) but does your daughter get similar sickness on hormonal contraception?

I am on lamotrigine and apart from OTC cyclazine (which doesn’t work for me) I can’t take any other anti sickness meds.

and did your daughters side effects get worse as she dosed up, or when she rejabbed the following week?

sorry for all the questions! I’ve only been on it four days as I say but I’ve lost 7 pounds. So happy about that but gutted if I have to stop. It’s been unbearable the past few days at points and I had a focal seizure after being sick though focals are reasonably common for me

I wonder if I fasted beforehand I wouldn’t have to come off it, ringing the surgery team tomorrow

You just said you’ve been throwing up for 4 days !!! take epilepsy medication and you are having a general anaesthetic operation so maybe you need more medical advice is all that was suggested, Your response seemed a bit rude.

How was it rude??? I was just saying that was the only meds I was on for reference to them. Good lord

@OneGiddyRubyViewer I was ok when i restarted after surgery. I had a full FDL tummy tuck, muscle repair and lipo. All the loose skin was removed. I was mainly bed bound for the first 2 weeks and not hungry at all.
i didn’t restart my jab until 4 weeks post op. This was out of choice as I just wasn’t hungry at all and barely eating.
my dd has a coil for contraception and has had no issues. The same with her seizure meds. She is considering reducing back to 7.5 to avoid the side effects. She is usually very nauseous for the first couple of days after jabbing.
hope that helps. Happy to answer any questions you have

I’m only on 2.5 and vomiting everywhere it’s scary to think 7 would cause a reaction like that
