I know there’s some threads for slow losers but I’m just looking at my losses over the last 6 weeks on MJ and thought I’d share mine (below) in case anyone else feels like it’s taking a while.

In my head, I thought MJ would be plenty of 3lb and 4lb losses to the point that I’d notice really quickly but it’s not been like that at all. I’ve stuck religiously to a calorie deficit (usually 1100-1300 a day but most often around 1150/1200), drunk lots of water and ate lots of protein. I am actually really ok with these losses, even though on paper 6.4lbs in a month doesn’t seem like a lot considering how much I’ve stuck to it.

But slow and steady is (what I hope) will win the race and if it takes me a year to do it, I’ll keep plodding on.

Just posting in case anyone else feels like it’s a tad slower than they thought it would be. Keep at it!

Losses
2.5mg
Week1: 4.8lbs
Week 2: 1.1 lbs
Week 3: 1lbs
Week 4: + 0.5lbs

Month 1 loss: 6.4lbs
5mg
Week 5: 3.5lbs
Week 6: 1lb

Why do you think that’s ‘slow’? Why did you think there would be loads of ‘3lb and 4lb’ losses?

Honestly? Your losses are GOOD not ‘slower’. I can only assume that the hundreds of people posting things like this have been watching too many TikTok videos of people claiming they have lost a stone every month or something ridiculous!

You are doing WELL! Maybe try an app like Happy Scale that shows trends rather than erratic up and downs.

Yep, think I believed the nonsense that I read in the media beforehand! I had it in my head I’d lose ‘a stone a month’ which I now know is completely stupid…and would actually be quite unhealthy if I did.

I think compared to others my losses are a little bit slower but I’m perfectly content with them. I’m also 50 and have had a lifetime of dieting so it’s inevitable losing weight now is different to what I remember 10 years ago.

Anything more than 1lb a week and you are losing muscle.

Kipperandarthur · 30/06/2025 17:57

I've had some 2lb and 3lb losses but lots of 1lbs.
I will be happy if I can lose 1lb consistently on a weekly basis.

MagnoliaTreePetals · 30/06/2025 18:08

You are doing really well @threeeggsontoast and losing weight at a healthy rate. I think your stats look spot on.

I lose 1.5lb nearly every week, and then occasionally a bit more or a bit less. All those 1.5's have added up to nearly 4 stone.
I am in my 50's so I am aware that my skin elasticity is not as great as it was when I was younger. So losing weight at this pace gives my body time to adjust. I have a couple of areas that look a little bit 'deflated', if I had lost weight faster I am sure I would have saggy loose skin everywhere.

PumpkinSly · 30/06/2025 18:15

I think slow and steady is better too. Too fast is unhealthy, and I feel I wouldn't have the time to develop a new relationship with food and eating. If I lose very fast I'm effectively starving myself and the weight is coming off because I've stopped eating, not because I'm learning control.

Butterfly44 · 30/06/2025 18:56

I’m losing around 1lb a week and that’s healthy imo. 12 weeks and lost 9kg, so about half a stone a month. Content with progress. Slow with lower doses and little side effects

Histoscientist · 30/06/2025 20:15

The bigger losses are usually from morbidly obese people who can achieve massive calorie deficits due to their size and drastic reduction in calories. Most people tend to lose around 1-2lbs a week unless they exercise regularly.

RhaenysRocks · 30/06/2025 20:17

Similar, I've lost about 21lbs in 12 weeks, so 1-2 lb a week. I've not gone above 5mg and an hoping not too. It would be amazing to see it fall off but as others have said there are both aesthetic and health reasons not too. Just remember, the time it takes would have passed anyway, but with no progress had you not taken action. I've had so many summers, Christmases and new school years where I promised myself I'd have lost x by next year and never did. This time, I think I actually will.

I have 3 stone to lose and lost 5.5kg (11lbs) in 2 weeks. It worried me a lot. Mostly because I can’t seem to eat enough. I could only manage 900-1000 calories a day. I do exercise (running and weights) and I’m trying to increase the calories so the loss is slower.

DarkForces · 30/06/2025 21:12

I lose an average of 6lb a month. You need to look at the trends and making good habits stick rather than comparing yourself to others. It's one of those things you just have to plough on with and persevere

Yes the first two weeks, even few months is different as we lose water weight too and you are also exercising as I said unless they exercise. I eat 800-1100 but I don't exercise.

threeeggsontoast · 30/06/2025 23:23

Feel quite encouraged now - thanks everyone. I genuinely thought this would be classed as slow losses, so really glad to know it’s a healthy rate of loss.

I think I’m comparing it to the last time I made a serious effort to lose weight. I did the 121 (Cambridge) diet about 4 years ago and lost 3 stone in around 12 weeks. Sadly right as I was planning to start maintenance, my mum died very suddenly. I was so grief stricken I could barely eat at all for about 6 weeks but then my appetite came back and I munched my way through my grief. Didn’t take long for it all to go back on.

I definitely feel much better on MJ and pretty soon I’m going to start building in some proper exercise as part of new healthy habits. I really want this to be a new way of life.

I feel you. In the past 3 weeks since the hot weather has arrived I have lost nothing. In fact once the hot weather arrived I put on 4lbs overnight! I’m comforting myself with the fact that I am perimenopausal so the fact that I have lost 20lbs (slowly) as normally the scale refuse to budge no matter what!

Same here, I’ve been ill so I’ve hardly eaten anything. I’m drinking loads of water but not peeing. I think my 4lb gain this week is water retention from the heatwave and time of the month. It’s frustrating though. I want to be back on track not going up once a month!

If it helps, I gained 3lbs during my TOM but it soon dropped off the following week. ☺️
