I'm on w2 d2 and haven't pooed since I started mj. When do I worry? I'm not eating much as I'm not hungry but I feel a bit constipated. I usually only go a couple of times a week but nothing since last Saturday. Should I be thinking laxatives?

Bulking agent type laxative. Maybe fibreglass or similar rather than bowel stimulants. AND drink more water. Lots more

onceuponatimeinneverland · 29/06/2025 20:56

Prunes, loads of water, movicol or sennakot.

Not sure what fibreglass is a spelling mistake for but definitely don't eat fibreglass,!

I've got some physillium husk to try.

I find a sachet of movicol per day stirred into apple juice keeps things moving.

Unfortunately I'm now way with work for the week so have only a tesco nearby.
I've been drinking black coffee and orange juice which usually works but nothing so far.

Before you start with laxatives you need to think about what your long term plan will be and make sure you are setting yourself up for no more problems,

  1. How much are you drinking? You need about 2lts a day, MJ slows down your digestion, you need to make sure you are hydrated enough to keep that digestion moving.

  2. when you say ‘not eating much’ what does that actually look like? Are you getting enough calories? A Very Low Calorie Diet is classed as 800 a day. Most people need about 1400-1800 depending on starting weight to be at the recommended amount of 500 below TDEE. You need to ensure you have a good balance of fibre, protein, fats and complex carbs.

  3. what is your activity level like? Gentle exercise like a 20 min brisk walk after a main meal will help your body break down glucose and again keep your digestion working.

If you don’t address the cause then you’ll end up having to take laxatives regularly which in itself can cause issues with your digestion over time.

Prunes will help kick start everything. Then I've been taking movicol and/or fybrogel every day just to keep things ticking over.

I eat about 1200 calories a day. I'm drinking over 2lt of water.i have mobility issues so can only walk about 10/15 without sitting down. Really crap ankle, shagged ligaments and osteoarthritis in one ankle. Hoping weight loss will help.

Option 1- Make a little porridge of 2 dessertspoons of ground/milled flax-seed with some warm water and take it twice a day for a few days. Really increase your water intake also and make sure you are adding salt to your food.
Option 2 - magnesium citrate capsules
Option 3- Google the recipe for Nigella’s Norwegian mountain loaf, add extra seeds to it.

There are many types of laxatives, and they work in different ways. Any pharmacist will be happy to help. Just go in and ask for a quiet word with the pharmacist, explain the situation and they will advise the best option for you.

I have got into the habit of having 2 tablespoons of chia seeds every morning and that’s helped enormously.

Start on the movical or laxido.. it should get things going.. its easier on your body.. I had to resort to dulcolax once, but don't wish to do that again..
Senna didn't touch me at all..

Then maybe start adding things to your diet.. prunes, chia seeds, flax seeds, kiwis, . Might help..
