Who have you told you’re on WLIs?

Just curious. I planned to keep it to myself but I keep telling people! I think cos I’m desperate to talk about it. I’ve told my mum, my sister and a close friend. The friend is planning on taking it too (despite being only just overweight) and my mum seems to think it’s extreme (my bmi was 30). How have the people you’ve told reacted?

Husband, eldest son. Mum. Couple of cousins

PermanentTemporary · 27/06/2025 13:17

Same, my plan was to tell nobody and I tell everyone, mainly because I don’t want people to think I’ve lost 3stone without help if it’s not the case.

Usual reaction is ‘oh so am I’ tbh. To be fair if someone has just done a long explanation of why the drugs are a terrible thing and only for lazy fatties, I don’t tell them. But that’s only happened once (so far).

WeAllHaveWings · 27/06/2025 13:29

told dh and ds as I don't hid things from my immediate family - they showed slight concern then interest
dsil / niece who I am close to - same, showed concern then interest
my ex-boss who I catch up with now and again - she is a bit anti big pharma cashing in (not just WLI) so I knew how she would react, but was pleased for me and my results

I am a year into them now, but after the first couple of weeks, didn't really talk about them as like any medication they not really that interesting to anyone not taking them and don't want to become a WLI bore.

Orangeandpurpletulips · 27/06/2025 13:30

DH, couple of friends, mum, hairdresser, BIL. The last two it just came up in conversation!

Peridot1 · 27/06/2025 13:33

I was an early adopter of Ozempic and told lots of people even then when it wasn’t as widely known about. Most people were just interested.

Now every Tom, Dick and Harry is on it! I live in a relatively small village and know at least six people here on it and one about to start.

MissFizzyPop · 27/06/2025 13:37

Told my daughter (17) and my Mum - that's it. It's not a secret as such but after 4 weeks, I haven't lost a noticeable amount so it hasn't come up...

SilenceInside · 27/06/2025 13:37

Just my DP, and don't intend to tell/haven't told anyone else. Not interested in any kind of discussion about it with anyone outside of me and DP. Apart from anonymously on MN of course!

SusanSometimes · 27/06/2025 13:40

DH, all my adult DC, brother and SIL, two close friends, one colleague who's also on them. Actually that's quite a lot, isn't it! All have been positive and supportive, but I only talk about it if they ask me how it's going.

InfoSecInTheCity · 27/06/2025 13:43

Anyone who asks how I’ve lost weight. I don’t volunteer it out of the blue but if someone asks what diet I’ve followed then I tell them. I would feel bad telling them I just ‘Ate less and Moved more’ without acknowledging that that set of activities was made more realistic and achievable by the addition of Mounjaro.

iI have tracked my calories, eaten in deficit, monitored my carb and protein intake, upped my cardio, added in strength exercises and worked really fucking hard, but Mounjaro was the missing piece of the puzzle that made it all work.

Snozzlemaid · 27/06/2025 13:47

I’ve told do and dd and that’s all.
I was glad I had told them when I became seriously unwell with a brain haemorrhage in March as I was not able to communicate this with the doctors, but thankfully they made sure the doctors were aware. I needed emergency surgery so it was important they and the anaesthetists knew.
The doctors confirmed my illness was in no way linked to taking MJ which I was concerned about at first.
Thankfully my 6 stone weight loss meant my recovery was really quick. I honestly think it would have been so much slower if I hadn’t lost the weight.

PurpleChrayn · 27/06/2025 14:24

Just DH. I don’t see any good reason to tell others.

caringcarer · 27/06/2025 14:25

My DH, DC and my sisters and a couple of friends. If you lose 3-4 stone people notice.

Fluck · 27/06/2025 14:27

Most people - I’ve lost 4 1/2 stone so I get a lot of comments. I’d feel like a fraud saying it was through diet & exercise! I lost weight (nearly 6st) ‘naturally’ in 2023 and that was so hard so this is a breeze in comparison!

Parsleysalad · 27/06/2025 14:30

At first only DH and now literally everyone, I decided that they have been so lifechanging for me that I didnt want to now share it. If people think I cheated I couldnt care less. Let them.

ringoutsolsticebells · 27/06/2025 14:35

Everyone

Moveoverdarlin · 27/06/2025 14:37

I know at least three people who are on it. None of them have said but it couldn’t be more glaringly obvious. They’ve been over weight all their adult lives and all three have lost about 3 stone since March.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 27/06/2025 14:40

Anyone who has asked how I’ve done it. I do know people who take it and lie by saying they “calorie counted and exercised” and while that’s true they haven’t mentioned the huge assistance of Mounjaro. I feel that by being honest it de mystifies it and all I’ve had are positive reactions and now lots of people I know take it and we all offer each other positive support.

Comedycook · 27/06/2025 14:43

My DH, my sister and one good friend who is on them too.

Happy to tell other people though, it doesn't bother me.

I won't tell my dc though.

Shudacudawuda · 27/06/2025 16:24

Only my husband, who trusts my judgement and has been very supportive.
I do think people may be starting to wonder now though, since I'm slimmer than I've been for years and there's so much news coverage 😆.
But I have no plans to tell anyone else.

SaintAgatha · 27/06/2025 16:51

My best friend. Other than that, nobody. I’m over people having opinions on my body or what I put into it. This is by me, for me.

afaloren · 27/06/2025 16:56

DH, my mum and my cousin. My mum and cousin are on it too tho!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 27/06/2025 17:11

2 very good friends, a couple of people I know in my profession, a few random acquaintances and thousands of people on the internet!

Oh and my dentist, consultant, GP, practice nurse etc

HollyhockDays · 27/06/2025 17:33

One friend. Loads of people suspect though. Although not DH!! My sister brings up WLI every time I see her. I’ve lost 4 stone so it’s pretty noticeable. I’ve realised people comment a lot on how you look / your weight!

arcticpandas · 27/06/2025 17:38

Everyone will know you're taking them as soon as they notice you're losing weight. I almost feel sorry for those working hard (=forcing themselves not to overeat despite food noise) because noone will believe they are not injecting. It's scary though because I have got a friend who looks really gaunt and she's still on them- they have def caused an ED. She sends in old photos of herself to the provider.

And.... this kind of comment is why I don't intend to have any conversations with anyone about WLI! I don't care if people think they know what I'm taking, I don't want to discuss it with anyone outside of DP.

Your friend's behaviour, if accurate, is scary for her. It's got nothing to do with anyone else, certainly not the thousands of people being prescribed legitimately and taking it responsibly.
