Question about Mounjaro

I have seen so many people saying that Mounjaro doesn’t just help you lose weight but cuts out the all the head noise involving food and in that sense is so freeing.

It’s a part of losing weight through the injections that I’m worried about, on one side it would be amazing to stop thinking about food when I'm not hungry and therefore overeating but eating/dining is a big part of my life and it does come with a lot of enjoyment, from setting up a beautiful table display for celebration meals, to sitting in the kitchen with a glass of wine while my husband is making a risotto or pasta sauce to nibbles in the garden a the smell of the BBQ starting.

Can I ask for all of you that have found the injections successful if you still enjoy life around food or has it numbed out the joy of eating so much that you have changed your habits completely.

I still enjoy both eating and cooking but I've lost 7st 8lb now.

That's taken 18 months.

I’m in week 15.

the jab works on your digestive system -making you feel full, hormone signal - making you not think about food and it reduces inflammation (most people loose a lot in the first few weeks -water weight from inflammation)

at the start it was a shock to me how little I could eat first few days after jabbing, opening cupboard out of habit not wanting anything . But also wanting to eat healthy and snacking is more or less gone

as time has passed I have learned what sits well and what dosnt, and how big portions I can eat. I still enjoy food and do drink wine . Towards the end of the week appetite increases as well as some of the jab has left your system. I tend to want more carbs meals towards end of the week . Some people who has big events etc on jab days either does it early or delayed .

I’ve had minimal side effects (only first two weeks on 2.5) but also had bigger losses at the start , I’m currently on 7.5 moving up to 10mg next week . MJ stopped my snoring since day one making me sleep much better . I have lost 33lb so far

this is my personal story and MJ dosnt work the same with everyone so it’s a learning as curve for each individual

I am not really interested in food any more and while I still get hungry, I am purely thinking about nourishing my body rather than the act of eating. Hard to explain. It's amazing (for me) and I am definitely saving loads of money even after the cost of the jabs.

You might not feel like me on MJ though. I don't think food was ever that big a deal to me before. I was always bloody hungry, but never particularly enjoyed eating to the extent you describe. Not sure I even tasted my food half the time, I ate it so fast. Setting the table, chatting over wine and so on, was not on my enjoyment radar at all.

Personally it did take away some of the food joy, at the beginning and I initially found that a bit hard as I really didn’t want to eat out, also put me off drinking alcohol which put me slightly at odds with my DH.
I’ve lost the weight now and in maintenance, a year in to my journey and I do go out to eat more now and have a bit more to drink as well, I’ve cooked all the way through and have still enjoyed doing so, just eat much smaller portions, I hardly snack or have puddings, but I no longer feel like I’m on a diet.
It has changed some things but 100% worth it for me.

cherrycherrypickin · 25/06/2025 18:02

I find it takes away all food noise (and makes me nauseous) for the first 36 hours. Then I can eat what I want and drink alcohol too, but it sort of gives me space away from cravings. So I can choose what I eat, rather than my brain hassling me to eat junk. I could absolutely out eat it if I wanted too and I wouldn't say I've lost any of the joy of eating, except maybe when I have nausea.

PinkArt · 25/06/2025 18:07

For me it's not removed the fun of food, just the unpleasant all consuming unhealthy thoughts. It's still lovely going out for a meal with friends, even if I'm unlikely to clear my plate. What has gone is eating my dinner but thinking the whole way through I can have some chocolate soon. Or someone opening biscuits in the office and not thinking that I want to eat all of them, immediately.
Food is a fun want, rather than a horrible all consuming need.

WeAllHaveWings · 25/06/2025 18:37

The first couple of months I found difficult but as the months progressed I found I still enjoy food as much, just different types of food.

I don't enjoy wine anymore, but I also don't miss it. I wouldn't enjoy more than a few bites of pasta but I would kill for a good BBQ - think of all that protein! I love more grilled salmon or a sirloin steak and I love salads and veg much more, but not keen on the carb heavy meals I ate before with big portions of pasta, rice, pizza.

Everyone will be impacted differently, you can try it and if after a couple of months you decide it is not for you then can just stop.

Notfinanciallyresponsibleforyou · 25/06/2025 18:53

I barely touch alcohol anymore. I don’t go out for meals anywhere near as much as I used to pre-MJ and if I do then I will just have a main course or two starters. Carb heavy meals make me feel ill.

HeidiNotSoHeavy · 25/06/2025 18:57

The first couple of weeks I really wasn't interested in food at all - no nausea, just didn't care if food existed. But that has normalised and yes I do enjoy cooking, eating, restaurants - it does often happen that I can't finish a delicious meal though, went for a tasting menu at a really good place the other day and I had to ask half of my dishes to go.

And like pp said, I can enjoy the meal without planning what I will eat later and what is for breakfast and tomorrow's dinner. So liberating.

Have gone off alcohol, but I find that sitting there with a nice non-alcoholic drink can be just as enjoyable.

purpledaze24 · 25/06/2025 18:59

Yes for me it has taken away the enjoyment of eating out etc. I enjoy nice food for the first 2 or 3 bites but then it kinda becomes a bit of a chore. I’m still in my first few weeks though and everyone is different. However I was prepared to make that sacrifice to lose weight. It’s more important to me to lose weight than it is to enjoy food, at least for the foreseeable future. Any big life change involves a sacrifice, I think you just have to decide which is more important to you (and it might be that enjoying food/socialising around it is more important for you at the moment and maybe you could still do that but lose less weight more slowly without injections but just by cutting out something small like crisps/full fat fizzy drinks etc). I think it’s a personal decision

AugustMounjaroTeam · 25/06/2025 19:03

Still really enjoy food - preparing it and eating out. I just eat much less of it, have no interest in unhealthy stuff, and only bother with food at mealtimes (instead of the constant grazing I used to do).

Can honestly say have enjoyed food more with my MJ outlook than I ever did constantly eating it and obsessing about it.

Whitehorses67 · 25/06/2025 19:08

I understand what you are wondering about. I sort of feel like I have lost a hobby but that hobby was not good for me so it is for the best.
I now have a disconnect between what I think I will want to eat and what I actually want.
I still look at cakes, chocolate, biscuits etc and I do actually buy some for my treat cupboard but I only eat a tiny fraction of them.
I wonder if eventually my head will catch up with my new eating pattern. Not sure.
Still very happy to have found mounjaro though. Almost 8 stone lighter.

MagnoliaTreePetals · 26/06/2025 11:27

I still love thinking about what meals we might have, preparing food, feeding people etc.
I still have a great sense of taste and smell.
However I eat smaller portions with no second helpings, and I do not get hungry between meals
Once I have had a couple of glasses of wine a switch is flicked and I just dont want any more. I still enjoy the company I'm in and have fun.

What is great is I that don't eat between meals, and when the MJ is at it's optimum dose I dont get any cravings or desire to snack.
If these cravings start to come back in I move up a dose.

nearly 4 stone loss so far
