Unrealistic expectations?

I’ve decided enough is enough, and I’ve ordered Mounjaro. I’ve successfully struggled with weight all my life, hanging onto the top end of a healthy BMI. But since going through medical menopause three years ago I can no longer control it, the weight has steadily built and I am now obese.

So, onto my hopes for this medication. I would desperately love to be able to order a meal that I fancy in a restaurant, rather than obsessing about what will fill me up. I’d love to eat a nice healthy dinner and then not feel like eating an entire chocolate bar or tub of ice cream. Or eat a chicken salad for lunch and not be desperate to add bread. I’d love to stop thinking about food all day - when can I eat, is it time yet, what am I allowed. So, how unrealistic am I being here?

It sounds entirely realistic and exactly how it works for the vast majority of users. I have been on a low dose since February (still on 5mg). I still enjoy food, just not necessarily the same ones as before. I don't crave sweet things and the thought of doughnuts is disgusting. I can't stand the smell of greasy fried food.

But I still enjoy fish and chips on holiday (I find a non greasy shop!), a cream tea and ice cream (it just has to be excellent gelato - Yorkshire ice cream was everywhere last week and it was ok, but disappointing). I am content with be small portions, or just a bite sized piece of something like a brownie. I enjoy it, but don't need more than a taste.

I still love cooking, but crave healthy foods. I enjoy cooking with pulses, making dhal and a strawberry that came with my cream tea was the most delicious thing ever the other day. Which is odd as I have a weird texture issue with fruit and haven't been able to enjoy a strawberry my whole life 🤣

I snack of nuts from the whole food section and also fruit. I enjoy them and it doesn't feel like a punishment or a horrible substitute for what I (used to) really want to eat

Thank you all. I am a bit worried about the not enjoying a meal out as a leisure activity, I have to admit. I was hoping I’d still enjoy the taste of nice food, and just be able to eat less. Does everyone tend to find they just don’t enjoy it at all any more?

I have found eating out quite difficult. I often find I fancy a particular choice on the menu, then can't eat much of it. One thing I have found helpful is to plan eating out on the day before I inject, that seems to be the optimum time for me.

I’ve been on Mounjaro for just over a year now. Lost 5.5 stones. Weight loss has slowed down a lot this last 5 months but I’m also what they call a super responder to the jab so a year later I’m still only on 5-6mg strength every week as anything higher makes me unwell. Obviously if I’d been able to move up to the higher doses the weight would be coming off me quicker. My appetite isn’t massively reduced being on the lower dose but my obsession with food has greatly decreased and I’ve absolutely no interest in fatty greasy foods. I’m able to turn down treats junk food and takeouts without a second thought no more feeling sorry for myself and sulking if I can’t eat everything in sight. It’s a very clever medication in my opinion and I’m so thankful I’ve been able to take it.

I also eat out regularly and enjoy it. I went to Bella Pasta and was happy with the half pizza half salad option. I'd have been still hungry and dissatisfied with that before. I tend to pick healthier options, never things like greasy burgers. I recently had a Brazilian fish stew and an African curry and both were lovely And I really enjoyed them. You won't be able to finish a large meal though, and you won't want two courses. I did feel a little bit horrified when I saw how much others were eating. Not in a judging them kind of way, but in an 'I would feel so ill eating that much/that kind of food' way. I never feel like I am missing out though.

I've found fish and tapas to be good choices. Got to be more careful with the spice. Its ok as long as its light.

Thank you all so much. Most of your experiences sound like an absolute dream, and thank for the tip about timing the injection. I’ve just got the “shipped”notification so hopefully tomorrow I can see how I respond! My verification call isn’t until next week so I was expecting to have to wait a little longer!
