Weight loss & heat tolerance

I’m in my 20s. Was slim the majority of my life until 2023 where the weight gradually piled on. As soon as my BMI hit 30, I ordered MJ. My BMI is down to being ~20 now.

I am so pleasantly surprised at how my body now tolerates higher temperatures. Has anyone else noticed this too?

When I was big, I used to feel sweaty at night in summer. Even when I used to be my current weight, I was notorious for wearing skirts and dresses all year around as I used to naturally run hot. I’d walk 15 minutes to the train station daily, and have a sweaty face by the time I got there.

I don’t know if it’s because I exercise a lot more now that I did the last time I was this weight - but I haven’t found the recent heat unbearable at all. Haven’t needed to do anything differently, no trouble sleeping, no fans on. Went for a run at lunch, didn’t get sweaty. It makes me feel really in control of my life!

So much more comfortable this year than every other year of my life. The downside is that I was fucking freezing every minute of every day from December to about a week ago.

ive been obese since primary school, have lost 5 stone on MJ since September and had lost just under 4 stone without it before that so about 9 stone lighter than my highest weight, Currently at BMI 23 and weigh less now than I did when I was 11 years old.

I usually have to wear chub rub shorts, copious amounts of talc and anti-perspirant, make sure I had long sleeves and legs on PJs so my skin didn’t touch other skin and overheat and get rashy.

i am loving summer so far this year.

@InfoSecInTheCity wow I can totally relate to the chub rub prevention efforts!

I took a wash bag of toiletries everywhere, like cooling spray, deodorant, wipes, anti-chafing gel etc to deal with feeling hot! My legs used to literally feel raw from touching each other. I used to avoid walking in summer when I was big, because of the chafing. Can’t believe I’m now sprinting outside!

well done on the losses!

Me too!!! And collarbones which are quite possibly my favourite body part.

PowderPants · 21/06/2025 16:46

Collarbones- yes I agree. I have enjoyed investing in shorter necklaces and boatneck tops to show them off.

Definitely handling the heat better! But yes to also feeling the cold more, hey ho, at least I can layer up!

MJconfessions · 21/06/2025 20:38

I didn’t get sensitive to the cold luckily!

I’m so glad others have felt better this year & are noticing other changes.

Is it not that hot where you are? Definitely weight can affect heat tolerance but not getting sweaty in this heat whilst running seems unusual? All my runner friends (and myself) are very sweaty this week and that’s a good thing in this weather

Are you eating enough to meet BMR etc? I only ask as have a friend who was under eating and one of her signs was not sweating on runs in the heat so that worried me to read. Apologies if you are and that’s great.

Nothing unusual here, don’t worry!

I’m quite fit. I have been weight training for a while and high intensity rowing and cycling are my preferred cardio. I also take reformer Pilates classes. So during zone 4/5 I tend to sweat.

Whereas the sprint I referenced was a short distance so I wasn’t late to my Pilates class. It wasn’t a full blown run, I’m not a runner and hate running! So overall it makes sense that I didn’t get sweaty, as it wasn’t the intensive exercise that I’m used to. I merely mentioned it as a comparison point, that 2023 me definitely would have been sweaty.
