Will Mounjaro really help?

Will Mounjaro really help?

I have around 4 1/2 stone to lose, I have an underactive thyroid, am menopausal (surgical menopause) and can't exercise due to disability. I was overweight before going into surgical menopause but have put on another stone and a half since then.

I've tried all sorts of things, I track calories, lose a pound or two, then either my weight stays the same for a week or 2 or I put a bit back on, despite still measuring food and calories. Then I give up, eat what I want as it seems pointless doing all that work when nothing seems to happen. Then I go into a phase of not caring what I eat and eating crap, put a few pounds on then go back to calorie tracking again and the cycle starts again! I know that it's normal to have weeks where there's no weight loss and I've lost weight several times in the past and have experienced those weeks, but when I'm cutting calories to 1300 a day, tracking everything I eat and measuring food, I'd expect to lose more than one or two pounds over 2-3 weeks, and not put any back on. But it seems that I lose a pound, stabilise, put half a pound on, then give up!

So I've been thinking about Mounjaro for a while now but I'm really doubting whether it will help. Because it seems that even when I do eat in a calorie deficit I don't lose weight consistently.

I kind of feel like I have to starve myself to maintain a healthy weight. In the past I've reached my goal weight a few times and have had to eat around 1000 calories a day to maintain it (even a higher end healthy weight for my height) so I'm thinking long term, even if I do lose the weight, will I put it all back on when I come off mounjaro?

Can anyone tell me how it feels to be on it? Will I just not be hungry? Will cravings go? Will I just not think about food?

It seems like there are only a small number of people who Mounjaro does not help to achieve a lower weight than they would otherwise have.

However, the vast majority will regain weight if they stop taking it.

So if you can afford it and are willing and able to take it forever the rest of your life, I would recommend trying it.

Everyone reacts in their own way. I've been on it two and a half years, I lose about 4lb a month some months I dont lose at all. I've lost 85lb so far. I don't feel hungry often, I don't think about food. I fast about 20 hours a day. Other people will eat three small meals a day. Others will graze all day. You don't know if you don't try.

If you have the money give it a go. I am 3 stone and 3 pound down. It has been slow 10 months. I probably have went for 6 walks in that 10 months. I have one more stone to go🙏

In the first instance - and apologies, but very realistically and bluntly - you’re not doing anything consistently. Losing weight when in menopause etc is a long long road, requiring high volume low calorie food (think 85% greens and some lean protein) over a sustained period. 9 months, a year. Just to lose the weight. And then those habits must stay

Mounjaro could potentially stop the binge eating when you’re feeling down / it’s all pointless. Look too at The Human Being diet as a manageable way of changing habits

you need to address too your feelings of worthlessness. Destructive eating behaviours always have low self worth at their heart

good luck ♥️

Iv been thinking of starting mounjaro for a while now but worried about side effects. Iv started going to a private gym with a pt. Im hoping if I started mounjaro, would it also help with the energy boost I need too?

Unlikely, must people say MJ makes them tired, I think it's the lack of calories myself.

I’m similar to you @Luckybuttons. Post menopausal with a disability that makes exercise almost impossible.

I have been on Mounjaro since January and have lost just over 3 and a half stone. Going from 13.7 to 9:12. I still have about half a stone to lose to get to the middle of a healthy BMI. In order to just maintain my weight, I can’t exceed 1350 calories.

Mounjaro has simply taken away my urges to eat any more than I need to survive. I rarely go over 1000 calories a day, quite often it’s 800, so similar to doing the Fast 800 diet. I never feel like I’m on a diet or depriving myself. I focus on eating protein and veggies. That’s about it.

I will stay on it for many years, on a maintenance dose that enables me to stabilise my healthy weight. It’s been an absolute life changing experience for me. My cholesterol levels have gone from 8.75 to 3.2. My arthritis is less severe so I’m taking fewer painkillers. My skin and nails look great.

Give it a go and see how you get on. I would plan to try it for two or three months. Don’t forget you will offset much of the cost by buying far less food (or booze as most people go off alcohol) Good luck.
