Hi all

I am debating starting weightloss injections we have been ttc baby 2 for nearly 2 years we have had fertility tests there is nothing wrong with either of us so no reason we can't fall pregnant. However it has been suggested that IUI might be a option for us. My BMI is currently 31.3 I've struggled to lose weight since having my first child. BMI was 27 before that. Anyway the clinic have said I need to be in a bmi of 30 before they will do treatment. But I don't want a huge age gap so hoping to take something to help me get the weight off.

Has anyone done IUI or had successful fertility treatment after taking weight loss jabs

Thanks in advance

In animals studies there have been adverse effects to the foetus

Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy):
Animal studies have shown that semaglutide can cause birth defects, miscarriage, and reduced offspring size. These findings led to recommendations that women discontinue the medication at least two months before pregnancy.

Tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound):
Animal studies have shown decreased offspring weight after exposure during pregnancy, but it's unclear if this is due to the medication itself or other factors.

Important Considerations:
Clinical trials in humans are essential:
While animal studies are valuable, human clinical trials are crucial to confirm or refute the findings from animal research and establish safe and effective treatment strategies for pregnant women.

Individualized approach:
The decision to use a medication during pregnancy often involves weighing potential risks and benefits, considering the severity of the condition, and exploring alternative treatment options. “

Wouldn't touch it if ttc. (I use mounjaro myself so not biased against them) but animal studies showed there is risk and I wouldn't risk it to be honest as we don't know what harm could be caused to the baby.

I took it for 6 months to get BMI under 30 for IVF. Worked great, stopped a couple of months before treatment (Dr wanted one clear month for it to be out of system) currently 17 weeks pregnant.

if you’ve been trying that long and need fertility treatment then I’d definitely use it to get BMI low enough. But make sure you pause TTC whilst you are on it.

Make sure your contraception is rock solid while using Mounjaro and 2 months after. Be aware it impacts oral contraceptives.

my docs said my BMI needed to be 35 but when I started my BMI was 40, I took mounjaro for 3 months and stopped, that was enough for my BMI to go down to 34. I waited until it was out of my system a month before starting treatment, between the prelim tests and waiting for the right time in my cycle, it ended up being more than 3 months between meds and my first cycle! So long as you follow the guidelines and wait at least a month before trying, you should be ok.
