Yes, definately - they use any excuse to get out of paying.
Mine didn't change price as they decided that as it was 'just obesity' it counted as cosmetic, but they still wanted to know. It didn't fit into any of the online pre-exisiting conditions criteria so I had to phone them

caffelattetogo · 18/06/2025 12:35

I think a lot will be caught out by this as they think they don’t need to notify as it’s bought privately

winterwonder1 · 18/06/2025 13:39

That's the thing - I wonder if some will think they don't have to tell insurers or that they won't get found out as it's not NHS

Yes I have an annual policy and was charged an additional £68 after declaring. But you have to declare the condition which is obesity.

DorotheaDiamond · 18/06/2025 15:06

Yes mine was select conditions from a list , the condition was something like weight management, asked was I taking mounjaro or wegovy, selected yes, no further question or cost.

Pumpkinforever · 18/06/2025 15:28

Yes travel insurance know that I am obese and yes they know I am on WLI. Not rising being Jin a situation where they can refuse to pay out as I hadn’t informed them.

Janie934 · 18/06/2025 15:32

Mine didn't give an option for weight loss treatment / injections, but i did declare obesity as a condition and paid an extra premium so hopefully that covers it!

Questions1234 · 18/06/2025 16:52

I declared obesity as a condition (the only option available - don’t have weight management) and they didn’t ask me about medication. Do you think that’s ok?? As an aside, we have a variety of medical conditions in the family, and they didn’t ask for list of medications- only (in some cases) number of medications related to a condition. I’m hoping that as I listed all possible conditions and answered all the questions that generated, I’ll be fine?

Summerbay23 · 18/06/2025 16:54

Yes, I declared the obesity category and phoned them to check as wasn’t an option to add Mounjaro. In my case they didn’t charge anything extra. However I had to tell them my height, weight etc, so I do wonder what happens if I’m not overweight anymore but potentially still taking it.

caffelattetogo · 18/06/2025 17:42

I’m not sure their systems have caught up with it all yet, or the increase in WLI since last summer

MarketSt · 18/06/2025 17:49

Another who wasn’t asked for meds but I did declare obesity as a condition and I had to add my weight and height.

Didn’t add anything to my premium but I had already declared other conditions so my insurance was quite expensive to start. (Annual)

caffelattetogo · 18/06/2025 23:18

Sounds like a good idea to add to obesity and at least then they can’t say they haven’t been notified.

I've posted on here about this before when I was trying to renew our annual insurance earlier this year.
It seems that the insurance companies are only just waking up to this one - back in February, I had Aviva tell me I was un-insurable by them (for everything - not even excluding anything Mounjaro-related). I complained and they over-turned the decision but by that time I'd got a better quote from Admiral who also would cover me for a specific activity I wanted to do on an upcoming trip that Aviva didn't cover.
The online questionnaires at that point didn't have any options for WLIs and I wasn't confident that ticking Obesity would cover it (particularly as at that point I was no longer technically obese). I asked on here and no one really seemed to know the answer and a fair few people maintained that if the insurer didn't ask, then one didn't have to declare it.
Anyway, insurance is all about peace of mind so it really is worth speaking to a human being to clarify exactly what you're covered for and how to declare the jabs. Yes, some insurers may hike the premium (although I don't THINK Admiral did) but it has to be worth it, in my opinion. Better than running the risk of them potentially not paying out in the event of any issues (even unrelated ones).

Tesseracter · 19/06/2025 06:56

I renewed my annual insurance a couple of weeks ago, and couldn’t work out how to declare it. So I rang them and asked, and they said I didn’t need to declare it. I have noted down the name of the person I spoke to plus the date and time of the call in case I have to make a claim and they try to dispute it.

caffelattetogo · 19/06/2025 22:36

It’s a minefield isn’t it?

MascaraGirl · 19/06/2025 22:44

I would declare absolutely anything/everything. I heard something on the radio about the menopause now being a declarable condition (but surely if I have disclosed my age and gender someone will work this out for themselves?). I rang my insurer to check this, and yes, I did need to declare it, it it didn’t add anything to the cost.

But I’m sure they use any excuse not to pay out these days

caffelattetogo · 23/06/2025 19:02

Menopause too? Wow!

Don’t you just wonder where this will end ….

SunshineDeLaSoul · 23/06/2025 19:26

Yes you have to to be fully covered. Mine made a note but the price stayed the same

I think that’s people not declaring they’re on HRT that was causing issues
