Who do I speak to, to see if I'm eligible for moujaro

Sorry if I've spelt that incorrectly

I am very overweight, truthfully obese.
I also have long covid, I had started to lose weight slowly but surely then long covid hit and 3 years later I'm worse than ever.
I am now starting to be able to do a little more physically but I can not stand looking at myself and need help

Do I contact my doctor? Sorry for what is probably a stupid question, just feeling low

I'm not sure how to get it on the NHS but you can get it from various places if your BMI is over a certain range - I've been using Medexpress and found them great

It’s v unlikely you can get it from GP, only prescribed for diabetes, and as part of tier 3 weight loss program, have you done tier 1 and 2? It will take yrs, and even then surgery more likely offered.

you are more likely to buy it yrself, yes it’s £130+pm but you will spend less on food.

CharityShopMensGlasses · 17/06/2025 23:50

It's usually something people privately access, in fact lots of gp surgeries have signs saying please don't come to us for weight loss injections.

But you can still explore weight loss with your GP. There are different things commissioned in different areas all worth exploring.

NHS GPs won’t be able to prescribe Mounjaro for weight loss. There is a new NHS rollout due to start at the end of this month but that will be for people with very high BMI (40 plus) with at least 4 weight related health issues.

So, the other option is a private prescription from an online provider, or some independent pharmacies will offer it in store too. Online providers include well know names like Asda, Boots, Superdrug, Morrisons, Lloyds, Ashcroft, and so on. There are lots of other less well known but popular options too. You can find a list of regulated online pharmacies on the website https://monj.co.uk which is a price comparison site. If you go with one of those, you fill out their online consultation form and then follow their instructions as to what evidence you need to upload to show your current weight/BMI.

Most people get it through a pharmacy, either well known high street ones like Boots, Asda, Superdrug, or many of the other online providers.
Basic criteria is you need a BMI of over 30, or if you have other weight related conditions, or some other ethnic groups can be BMI 27.
Its reasonably straightforward, you fill in an online consultation, send photos, pay and they will check to see if you are eligible, if you are they will send out the prescription usually be post, or if high street you can pick up if more convenient, if you don’t meet the criteria they will refund your money.
its worth looking at https://monj.co.uk/mounjaro-price-comparison-by-monj/ to see the different providers and prices.

Do you have a local pharmacy that stocks it? Their prices tend to be similar to somewhere like Asda and the checks are all done at your initial consultation. The next appointment is even easier as they just need to weigh you and do some simple observations.

I also have the added peace of mind knowing I am being monitored face to face as I have quite complex medical needs

it’s not for everyone but it works for me far better than online purchasing did previously

Thank you all so much. I will have a look at our local.pharmacies.
