I keep reading I need to do this! Am on W5 of MJ so it’s still early days but I honestly don’t know where to start and what exercises to do. I’ve looked it up online and there’s so much differing advice. I want to do it at home rather than go to the gym. I know (from learned experience) that I won’t stick with the gym but I probably would easily get into something I could do at home while watching TV.

Do you use a kettlebell or dumbbells? What exercises do you do? For how long and how often?

I’ve got a bit of a shoulder sprain at the moment but want to get into it as soon as that’s healed.

I am at a similar stage. 4 weeks tomorrow. I can’t say I really know what I am doing but I bought some dumbbells and looked up some exercises on YouTube and try to do a few sets of things each day. I have decided to book a session with a personal trainer to get some advice and I’ll see how it goes from there. Im not planning g on having regular sessions, just some ideas of exercises to get me started and then maybe again when I am a bit more established. I am tempted by a kettleball.

I have bought a weighted vest that I wear when I go for walks which I would recommend. I also try to go a longer route when I do the school run to get extra steps in. I like the vest, I’ve gone for 3kg. I figure I am used to carrying around extra weight.

Madfit on YouTube is good, I would start with the easy all standing / no jumping ones and you can use a dumbell or kettlebell. I do one of these for my HIIT day workout and it is tough but fun 💪

Maybe have a look at the Les Mills classes.

Husband (also taking Mounjaro) and I are members of a health club. We use weight machines there. I prefer them to free weights. We’re slowly increasing the weight and the reps. We only go twice a week. We swim then too and I walk my big dog in between.

I belong to a gym that does small group PT. The cost of a session is MUCH lower, but it’s still very personalised, and the community is great. It’s a mix of people who have trained weights before and total newbies.

highly recommend looking for something like that!

It’s worth looking at dr tyna Moore, the Pause life and all the menopause doctors on line as they give good guidance about what to do (lift heavy, fewer reps and not things like cross fit or body pump) - even if you’re not menopausal!

I like the simplicity of 5x5 (a weight training approach). There is a good free app that describes the lifts etc and helps you track your workout called Strong Lifts

the most important is that you begin - start simple (squats are amazing for you and if you only did those you’d be well in your way ) , don’t compare yourself to anyone else

Good luck!

Look up Caroline Girvan on YouTube. She has all levels of training videos from beginner. Very good.
