Pros: appetite is suppressed.

cons: Nausea, actual throwing up, pounded headache, sulphur burps and diarrhoea. The diarrhoea started at 3pm yesterday and has been on and off since.

Is this really what it’s like to be on MJ or am I just really unlucky?
Im too scared to take my next dose.

I haven’t had any of that at all, I think you’re an unlucky one. When is your next dose due?

knackeredmumoftwo · 13/06/2025 08:47

It’s normal I had it- it does settle x

Weightlossprincess · 13/06/2025 08:48

Maybe try taking half a dose and slowly building up to a full dose next week, see if that helps. So sorry you feel rough xx

Onebigbeautifulstep · 13/06/2025 08:48

@Koazy I do feel like I’m just very unlucky. When I was pregnant I had all the symptoms going & felt unlucky then too.

Only you can decide what’s right for you but personally, I’d probably give it longer.

What sort of foods are you eating? Are you drinking enough? I think what you eat can have an impact.

For me, I feel like I’ve tried everything out there and have consistently failed to stick at it. I cannot remember the last time I stuck with a calorie deficit for 4 whole weeks and so for me, I’m going to hang on and keep seeing it through because I’m tired of being overweight and sitting on the sidelines of my own life.

But like I said, only you can decide.

TheChosenTwo · 13/06/2025 08:49

Sorry it’s affected you so harshly.
i didn’t have any of those symptoms, have never experienced the nausea or sulphur burps or anything else you describe, ive had an incredibly smooth journey.
Not sure what id recommend in your position tbh.

Onebigbeautifulstep · 13/06/2025 08:50

My next dose is due on Tuesday.
@knackeredmumoftwo when did it settle? I’m so scared I’m going to have to bow out a lot of my plans in the next three weeks.

What weight are you and how much are you hoping to lose?
This would factor in my decision making as to whether to plough through and see if it gets better.

Onebigbeautifulstep · 13/06/2025 08:53

@sunnycurtains my breakfasts have consisted of, scrambled eggs and one bacon. No lunch as I don’t have time. Dinner is very protein veg based. No carbs.

@TheChosenTwo can’t say I’m not jealous to hear that, but I’m happy you haven’t been suffering.

@Kipperandarthur I am 252lbs (18st 2) 5ft 1 and I have a lot to lose!
I am also a diabetic

Ok with your update on weight I would try and carry on and see if it gets better.

I only asked as some people start from really quite a low point and only want to take off say 3 stone. FYI I started at a similar weight as you (18.5) and have lost 1 stone in 5 weeks.

sunnycurtains · 13/06/2025 09:00

Ok, I think as you’re only 3 days in, there’s a good possibility this will settle. A lot of people report side effects kicking in around day 3 or day 4. Load up on over the counter stuff (Pepto Bismol is good for upset stomach plus electrolytes in your water if you’ve been sick) and see if that helps.

LittleNoosh · 13/06/2025 09:19

I found my first two injections had horrible side effects for a few days. The third injection side effects were reduced and the fourth I barely noticed any side effects.

Unfortunately I wasn’t really getting any suppression so I’ve had to step up a level to 5mg which I’ve now had two injections do. I was dreading it after how bad I felt at the start of 2.5mg but it’s been fine. No discernible side effects for either jab.

If you’d spoken to me five weeks ago I was ready to stop. I swore I couldn’t carry on with it.

My husband encouraged me to get some gaviscon, stop with the coffee and switch to mint tea. And I avoided fatty or rich foods just after the jabs. They all helped a little bit.

In the end though, I think my body just needed time to get used to it.

Ultimately it’s your decision and for every story like mine there might be one of someone whose side effects don’t improve.

But I wanted you to hear my situation in case it gave you enough motivation to try another week or two - if you can.

RelaxedOddish · 13/06/2025 09:23

I think you are finding the medication quite strong for you. I don't think you should give up tho. I think reduce your dose until it settles. I suggest taking 30 clicks, so 1.25mg. then maybe stick to this dose until you feeling it's not working, then try 2.5mg again.

I totally get how you're feeling — that first week on 2.5mg was rough for me too. I didn’t actually throw up, but I felt so nauseous. I remember going into town with my son and his girlfriend while they were looking for somewhere to eat, and I just thought, “There’s no way I can sit in a restaurant feeling like this!” They ordered pizza, and I tried to play it safe with one of those pizzas with the middle cut out and filled with salad. I managed one bite, pushed the rest around my plate, and sipped Sprite just to settle my stomach.
At the time, I honestly thought, “If this is what it’s going to be like, I can’t keep going — it’s ruining my social life.” I was also so tired, like that deep pregnancy-style tiredness.
But the good news is, by the second week I felt so much better. Since October last year, I’ve only had the occasional bit of tiredness or an upset stomach. I’ve just gone up to 12.5mg and still doing okay!
So hang in there — the side effects might ease up like they did for me. Really hope it works out for you 💛

Itscoldouthere · 13/06/2025 09:36

Are you taking any medication to help with the sickness?
Pepto Bismal really helps, it smells like germolene, but if you hold you nose when taking it, it tastes ok, slightly minty, it very quickly helps with sulphur burps and nausea.
I hope the sickness passes for you soon 🤞🏻

WeAllHaveWings · 13/06/2025 11:17

Speak to your provider and/or local pharmacy, there is help available for managing initial side effects. Your local pharmacy will be able to prescribe anti sickness meds to see you through.

If you get the same problems after a couple of more weeks and cannot manage the side effects with your pharmacy's help (do this first) you could then potentially try to click count to take a 1.25mg dose until your body gets used to it. The first few weeks can be tough. Good luck

Histoscientist · 14/06/2025 01:53

Are you taking diabetic medication? It could be contradictory with both acting the same way. Also usually fatty processed meat affects, try cutting out red meat and the bacon. Drink lots of water if you don't already

ItsNotMeEither · 14/06/2025 05:37

Honestly, look into gastric sleeve. I’m over 50, and after a lifetime of unsuccessful dieting, this has been the golden ticket for me. I’m not saying it’s for everyone, but look into it.

I spent my life dieting and counting calories, only to get bigger and bigger. I had sleeve surgery 3 years ago. I’m also short, 155cm. I was 116KG and now happily maintaining 64kg.

I don’t count calories or carbs, I don’t diet. I do eat mindfully and have learnt to find the protein on my plate first. I socialise around lots of food, but it no longer takes up any head space.

For some reason, I’d never joined the dots and thought that surgery was for me, but one by one, health issues were popping up for me, including diabetes and a scare with a spot on my liver. I feel like the surgery has literally saved my life.

The day a GP suggested surgery, I went home and cried, then found the surgery threads on here and read them all. Joined a couple of Facebook pages and read everyone’s stories. The good and the bad, as it’s not a walk in the park for everyone either. That was on a Saturday, on the Monday I phoned up and booked an appointment with the surgeon and she couldn’t have been a better fit for me.

i would say, if this does resonate with you, make sure you choose a surgeon who includes a dietician and a psychologist in their team. I haven’t used them much, but they were useful.

Three years down the track, I’ve had excess skin removed and I feel like I have my life back. I have been lucky though, because for me, I’ve been lucky to have a pretty smooth ride with no complications. I was a slow loser compared to many, but slow and steady and it has been life changing.

ShrankLastWinter · 14/06/2025 10:11

With your health profile, I would persist. A lot of people on threads here who have bad side effects at first report that they get better after a couple of weeks. The benefits of having good blood sugar control and weight loss would be really substantial, if you can make the medication work for you.

As someone above said, ditch the bacon. I’d feel grim on bacon. You need veg and lean protein. Poach or boil the eggs rather than scrambling. In a few months you’ll probably be able to have bacon and scrambled eggs again, but for now go really low fat so you don’t feel sick.

BerfyTigot · 14/06/2025 12:49

@Onebigbeautifulstep I do feel for you. I was very similar and have halved the dose (taking 1.25) by counting clicks and injecting into the thigh which seems to help.

I've been on it a month now and have reduced the frequency down to every 5 days as the suppression was wearing off very quickly. I still get diarrhoea for a couple of days if I don't take immodium.

I know that it's not a schedule which has been tested but I follow a couple of doctors on YouTube who are both taking it themselves:

Kevin Joseph
Emma Anders

I also use the free version of the Shotsy app to work out the dose at which i get some suppression but manageable side effects.

Hope this is useful.

2025mj · 14/06/2025 15:13

It should settle
Bacon and eggs does the same thing to me and I'm 16 weeks in

My side effects have been the same if not worse than this. I never thought they would settle but they did. I must admit it took about 8 weeks but it got better with each week. I vomited so much, I couldn’t have survived without Cyclizine. Ask your GP to prescribe you it. Sip on water all day rather than downing it. Take the jab the evening before you don’t need to work. E.g. Friday evening if you don’t work weekends.

I stuck at it because like you I’m only 5ft 2 and was 18 stone 11 so I persevered.

TreesOfGreen99 · 14/06/2025 17:42

My SE after the 1st jab weren’t as bad as yours, but I did feel rough and dreaded taking a second dose. I used the Shotsy app to see when the dose was falling and waited until day 9 to take my second dose. Genuinely had no SE at all on the second dose.
Might be worth considering delaying the dose if you continue.

TootieFrooties · 14/06/2025 17:56

I thought that food like bacon and eggs were not the best thing to eat. I’ve only had a dodgy tummy once and it was when I had fried food.

I have porridge with peanut butter in for breakfast. It’s really nice.

TheAphrodite · 15/06/2025 00:51

I had exactly the same side effects as you. horrendous sickness and nausea 😩 its taken a good 8 - 9 weeks of it and i finally feel okay. dreading when ive got to go up a dose (my appetite is still suppressed so I'm not moving up anytime soon). I work from home so luckily was always close to the toilet incase I needed to be sick. I decided to stick with it and I'm really glad I did. Ive lost almost 2 stone since beginning of March x
