Honestly, look into gastric sleeve. I’m over 50, and after a lifetime of unsuccessful dieting, this has been the golden ticket for me. I’m not saying it’s for everyone, but look into it.
I spent my life dieting and counting calories, only to get bigger and bigger. I had sleeve surgery 3 years ago. I’m also short, 155cm. I was 116KG and now happily maintaining 64kg.
I don’t count calories or carbs, I don’t diet. I do eat mindfully and have learnt to find the protein on my plate first. I socialise around lots of food, but it no longer takes up any head space.
For some reason, I’d never joined the dots and thought that surgery was for me, but one by one, health issues were popping up for me, including diabetes and a scare with a spot on my liver. I feel like the surgery has literally saved my life.
The day a GP suggested surgery, I went home and cried, then found the surgery threads on here and read them all. Joined a couple of Facebook pages and read everyone’s stories. The good and the bad, as it’s not a walk in the park for everyone either. That was on a Saturday, on the Monday I phoned up and booked an appointment with the surgeon and she couldn’t have been a better fit for me.
i would say, if this does resonate with you, make sure you choose a surgeon who includes a dietician and a psychologist in their team. I haven’t used them much, but they were useful.
Three years down the track, I’ve had excess skin removed and I feel like I have my life back. I have been lucky though, because for me, I’ve been lucky to have a pretty smooth ride with no complications. I was a slow loser compared to many, but slow and steady and it has been life changing.
