Mounjaro and lipoedema?

Does anyone else here have (or suspect they have) lipoedema? Have you noticed any changes since starting MJ?

I have not been diagnosed but I fit the criteria and I'm thinking this might be another sign of it.

I've lost 5st and my legs are exactly the same size as they were at my starting weight. I take my measurements every month and calves and thighs haven't lost even a cm. My upper body is a size 12 but legs are still a size 20.

I still have a few stone to lose before I'm at goal but it feels like a lot of that weight is in my legs.

I have lipoedema but my experience has been quite different and I’ve definitely lost weight in my lower half (albeit to a much lesser extent than my top) but I also understand that despite having the same condition some people with lipoedema may have a higher or lower ratio of “normal” fat to lipoedema fat in their legs. I’ve found they are much less tight and that generally less inflamed which I attribute to the MJ too.

To be fair I’ve also been doing massage etc (The Windsor Method - see Kaz Talks on instagram) which has also probably helped.

@TinglyandCurious I'm so glad it's changing things for you!

I won't give up hope that it'll do the same for me.

I do (stage 4) and I'm so worried about this. I don't expect to lose any weight from my horrible bottom half. Just trying to hope I'll at least lose from my front and some inflammation at least. It's very disheartening.

@PearlsPearl my bottom half is very similar to yours. I have never been diagnosed with lipoedema but have wondered if I have it. Did you go to your GP and get a diagnosis? Have you been prescribed MJ?

If your legs are like that you almost certainly have an advanced stage of lipoedema

I think I have lipoedema. I work in health care, so I'm sure I'm not that far wrong, but I've never bothered seeing the GP about it as I have assumed (perhaps unfairly ...) they'll just tell me I'm fat.

While my legs are definitely thinner, the fat loss is not to nearly the same degree as my torso and arms. And, it's even more obvious that it is different fat (lumpy and painful). In fact, it's a bit depressing that the weight loss has highlighted the disparity between my thighs and the rest of me. I was hoping that the anti-inflammatory aspect of WLI would help it a bit more (the joint pain in my hands, for example, is 90% gone).

However. Losing weight is def helpful for managing it. I've started running and have bought some compression bike shorts, which feel good. I might look into MLD and I hear good things about body brushing. I'm doing well at the moment WRT self care.

@TheMEmonsterisreal My GP was the first person to tell me about it. I'd never heard of it, this was years ago and I was then referred to the Lymphoedema Clinic who diagnosed it, and they explained to me it wasn't lymphoedema but was lipoedema.

I pay privately for it, amazingly at 22 stone I wasn't overweight enough to be eligible in my county! (But was eligible for weight loss surgery.. ridiculous)

In my lipoedema group on Facebook there are some people who have lost 10 stone on MJ and not lost an inch on their legs/hips/arms. I am pretty sure I'll be like that. But I accept it and just want as much gone from everywhere as possible. My legs make walking really tough as it is so the less I weigh the better.

@PearlsPearl thank you so much for replying. I have never discussed this with a doctor, I didn’t think that the NHS actually believed in lipoedema as a genuine condition and I thought there was very little to be done about it. Over the last couple of years my legs have got much worse and now make walking very difficult and they are so painful and tight all the time. I keep thinking that if I could just get it together mentally to lose some weight, then things would be so much better, but it’s pretty distressing to hear how it may not make any/much difference. However, I hope that your experience will be better than you expect, and that MJ helps you find much relief from this horrible condition 💐

Thank you @TheMEmonsterisreal I do think losing weight will help with the inflammation and tightness however.

The NHS has a page on lipoedema now, it is starting to be properly recognised.
