A year on & has anyone else just not lost that much?

MJ has been life changing for me in many ways but, having started it purely for weight loss, I confess to being disappointed that, in a year, I have only lost 1.5 stone and my weight is stubbornly stuck around BMI 26. I’m now back down to 2.5mg as all that happened as I went up the doses was that I felt increasingly lethargic & flat with no noticeable different in weight loss or other benefits.
Don’t get me wrong - I am delighted to have lost weight that I have as that had not shifted for years despite lots of effort and, with PCOS & ADHD, I’d wondered if it was ever going to shift or if I’d just gradually keep getting fatter & fatter. And, as I said at the outset, other effects have been brilliant. But I thought I would be slim by now!
I’m not really sure if there is anything I can do. The suppliers just say that it doesn’t work for everyone. But everyone I know or who read about seem to be dropping the pounds without any issues whatsoever. Is there anyone in a similar position to me?

I have lost more in a year but I started at a BMI of 42. I've lost 4.5 stone. I have a BMI now of 31. So while I've lost more than you have, I had imagined that a year in I wouldn't still be obese! So I get where you're comimg from. And everyone on my starter thread has lost more or are approaching goal.

Like you, I'm back down to 2.5mg but for me that's because I only briefly made it to 5mg and the side effects were unmanageable. I have built up to 5mg twice and managed to stay there for three months but it made me ill and I've come down.

My goal weight isn't a BMI of 25 or under and never has been. I've been overweight or obese my entire life. I actually know that I like the way I look around a BMI of 27 and I feel great right now even in terms of my health and fitness. So I think it's worth examining your goal and if a BMI of 26 (which is actually associated with better longevity in women than a BMI of under 25!) is one that suits you and is realistic for you. I have lost a lot off my middle, which is the more dangerous place to store fat so I'm taking that as a win. Your shape and build make a difference.

I've also been doing strength training and that has been life-changing; if you aren't doing something like that I would recommend it. It might not help push the weight loss significantly but it can change your body composition and make you feel amazing.

I suppose it boils down to what was the cause of your weight.

If it was “food noise” that we hear constantly about…. You would likely have lost more

If it was a modest intake of food but a lack of any kind of movement ie you sit on your bottom all day and do nothing, and that hasn’t changed …. Then perhaps less of an impact

Slow and steady wins the race. I have a really awful full-length picture of me in Summer 2022 compared with now. I have blood glucose in the 4’s/5’s and don’t want diabetes back I’ll take that, even though technically I’m on this medication for weight loss.

Three operations now had on these GLP1’s, two of the operations I had no idea were coming. Improve my chances at 15 stone than at 20 stone.

I urge anyone to think beyond I must lose several lbs a week, as quickly as possible.

Histoscientist · 07/06/2025 20:08

I'm only losing 1lb a week, but it's got to 37lbs in 35 weeks so 2st 9lbs loss now. Started at 13st 1lbs now 10st 6lbs bmi 25.9 and still losing 1lb a week. The best advice I can give is to track calories, increase protein, water and limit carbs, especially with metabolic conditions like pcos and insulin resistance amunt of carbs makes a massive difference and I definitely get over a small plateau when I do that, im prediabetic so it's much harder to lose weight especially on smaller doses. I found above 10mg best and stick to 1200 calories a day, usually less.
I also felt the flat lethargy feeling constantly and worse on higher doses, ik on 12.5mg and i dont want to do anything or go anywhere, it's due to disruption of dopamine so this week I started on L-tyrosine supplements which is converted to dopamine and honestly I feel like that fog has lifted finally, my mind is clearer and sharper and I have more energy.

I only lost a stone in 6 months. Was up to 12.5mg by then. Just didn't seen to have the same effect on me that it has on others. Still got hungry and had food noise.

But also it made me feel low level queasy/tired/cold/headachy quite often so I found that although I was eating a bit less I was also wanting to eat dry carby stuff like I was recovering from a stomach bug/hangover.

For me it has been life changing and nothing short of miraculous. I was fat purely down to lack of portion control . I love to cook and am very invested in the Zoe way of looking after my gut biome . So healthy eating was never a problem.. I just ate too damn much !
2.5 did nothing for me.. neither did 5mg.. it really only worked at 7.5 . I understand why now - I have been a habitual yo-yo dieter and had wrecked my metabolism into insulin resistance. So this drug was exactly what I needed .

I followed the instructions and increased by 2.5 every 5 weeks . Had some constipation and also felt sluggish due to this at times but stuck with it and have long since reached my goal. I started at 97 kg and am now 60. (15st 6 to 9.2) . I’m now maintaining on 7.5mg and it’s my happy place 7 months since goal. The cost seems high but I am actually saving money . Before MJ I would have at least 2 coffees a day and at least one pastry . £8.. not to mention all the extra food I used to eat .. I reckon I save about £60 pm staying on MJ.

best outcomes are health . No more :
BP meds
Statins
knee steroids
Gone is the ghastly sleep apnea machine

cons ..
had to ditch my entire wardrobe
Have developed a ‘Vinted’ habit 😂..

2.5 is not a therapeutic dose. It’s not designed to have any effect except to get your u body accustomed to the drug. Don’t expect to lose much weight in it . You have to climb the ladder at 2.5 every 4/5 weeks until you get a decent suppression . Or it simply won’t work.

InfoSecInTheCity · 08/06/2025 18:22

Except for the weekly injection what are you doing to lose weight?

Have you modified your diet? Are you exercising? Have you been making sure you stay hydrated? Have you been tracking your calories to ensure you eat in a deficit every day?

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 08/06/2025 20:16

How have you changed your diet and what is your calorie deficit?

Edited

I've just looked this up as it sounded interesting, but have seen it can interact with sertraline which I'm already taking
