Hello
Is anyone struggling to lose weight on Mounjaro? I have been on it since Jan 2025 and I have only lost just under 1 stone.
Really bad side effects- fatigue and low blood pressure. Stomach cramps and really bad acid reflux/sulphur burps.
Any advice please as I am really wondering if I should just stop now.
Thanks x

What do you mean no weight loss? You've lost a stone.
January to May is 5 months. 14 pounds is slow loss on Mounjaro to be sure. Have you moved up the doses? How is your nutrition? Are you calorie tracking?

I was hoping for a faster loss, when I read how much others are losing.
I have moved up and am currently on the 10mg.
Nutrition wise - if anything I think I may be under eating as I feel so sick, I do not really want to eat much.
As an example -yesterday I had overnight oats (not much) around 11 am. Then a croissant at 1 and chicken/sweetcorn soup for dinner and 2 squares of Dubai chocolate.
This morning my blood pleasure was 84/65- checked it as i was feeling dizzy and weak.

Are you tracking every single thing you eat and drink as that will give you a guide as to how much you're consuming.

Have you worked out how much of a calorie deficit you have to be in in order to lose weight sensibly?

The fatigue will possibly be because you're not eating enough and, or, the wrong things.

You need to be eating lots of protein. Are you taking any supplements. MJ isn't a fat melting medicine, it's an aid but lots of people, myself included have found the suppression so strong that they can't stomach much food at all.

Would you consider dropping down a dose so that the suppression isn't so strong?

naemates · 06/06/2025 10:33

Is your 1 stone loss from eg 20st to 19st, or 10st to 9st?
I would get a tracker app, count/plan your calories. Your hardly anything is a lot of carbs and fat, and little protein. It’s probably relatively high calories for the volume of food eaten

Thank you - I think I will have to, although I have already ordered and collected my next cycle which is 12.5 I ordered. I used to walk 5 times a week and i haven't been able to do any exercise due to no energy.
I am taking supplements. My GP put me on Iron and Vit D as it was both extremely low (did a blood test for perimenopause and they found this)
Any other supplements advice please.

How much weight do you have to lose? Can you change your diet to increase protein and vegetables? Are you taking a decent multivitamin?

FortyElephants · 06/06/2025 10:37

What is your starting weight?
Starvation mode isn't a real thing so if you're undereating consistently you should be losing fat. Something isn't working properly.

MounjaMum · 06/06/2025 10:37

My BMI is 28.1 - which is obese as per NHS website (ethnicity taken into account).
I would like to lose about 12 kgs - so another 1.5 stone.

OP posts:
MounjaMum · 06/06/2025 10:38

@FortyElephants i am currently 74kgs and i am 160.1 cm

I don't know how old you are but I take a ladies multi vit, collagen tablets ( alot take the powder ), vit d and magnesium.

It's difficult to keep up the exercise when you have low energy but I suggest some high protein foods, little and often. I'm only on 2.5 because the suppression is so strong for me ( only in my second month ). Maybe count the clicks on your pen and take a lower dose on your next jab day.

Are you on one of the MJ threads? There's lots depending what month you started, lots of people on similar timeliness, all losing at different rates.

MounjaMum · 06/06/2025 10:46

@Brunocatmon I am 47. I am also in a highly mentally demanding corporate job - so I feel like i have no energy at work!
I think I will talk to Asda and see if they may prescribe a lower one (i doubt they will authorise a second order).
I will look into the vitamins and collagen. Thanks

Your rate of loss is likely to be slower as your weight is lower, making it harder for you to create a calorie deficit each week large enough to lose larger amounts. But that's an indication that you should be looking to lose the weight slowly, so that it is manageable and sustainable and that you feel well whilst doing so.

I wouldn't move up a dose if you are already having bad side effects and feeling so unwell that you can't exercise. Could you try a week or two of eating at a maintenance level of calories, with lots of protein and veg, and see if that helps how you feel? Then reduce your calories to 200 or 300 below maintenance, rather than aiming for a 500 cal deficit.

Winter2020 · 06/06/2025 10:55

Your experience on Mounjaro at the minute sounds really miserable. For me the best thing about being on Mounjaro is being able to enjoy the experience - finding healthy foods such as a Mango or Watermelon really motivating and not being so bothered about cheesecake/chips etc.

I'm calorie counting and I've found by tracking that if I average less than 2000 cals each day I lose a pound or two over a week. if I average over 2000 cals each day I stay the same. I've just been for a run in the forest (without breakfast) but about to tuck into 3 boiled eggs, 2 toast, a little jam and then later for tea I plan salmon, veg and mash. Might have a mago at some point.

The point of what I am getting at is you have increased your medication to the point that you feel sick, are eating little and feeling like shit!

Reduce your medication to the point that you have an appetite for your meals and calorie track to be a few hundred under your required amounts - aiming to lose half a pound to max 2 pounds each week. Some weeks it's fine to lose nothing and let your body chill out.

Better to spend the next year living your life, exercising, enjoying your food and gradually lose that stone than what it sounds like you are doing depriving and punishing your body. In my opinion you are approaching this all wrong.

TaupeRaven · 06/06/2025 11:03

Lots of good advice here about protein, vitamin supplements etc. Also remember that we need good fats and a small amount of carbs to fuel our bodies! Starvation mode isn't a thing unless you've burned through all your body fat, but to build lean muscle and to have the energy to function never mind exercise, you need some fuel!

@Winter2020 You might not be interested, but I was listening to some really interesting discussion around women's biology (sorry for presumption around you beng female, I could be wrong!) and fasted exercise - Dr Stacy (Stacey?) Sim is a physiologist who's done a lot of research on it if you're interested.

The British Mounjaro pens are 60 clicks for a full dose - if it is this kind of pen then you can take 30 clicks for a half dose from the pen, 15 clicks for a quarter dose etc.

You can work out how many clicks for your preferred pen by doing the dose divided by 60

E.g. 5%60, or 10%60 to find the amount of medicine in 1 click

Then multiply (I estimate on a calculater hut I believe there is a formula ) until you find the number of clicks for your desired dose.

Winter2020 · 06/06/2025 11:18

@TaupeRaven
Thanks I'll look up that Dr.

Thank you everyone - good advice on here. @Winter2020 I will read a bit more about this and try and work out the clicks.
Think i need to relook at what I am eating.
It is 12.25 and all I have had is a banana with back to back meetings.
So I will be looking at reducing the dose, more proteins and more supplements.
Fingers crossed i feel better as at the moment I do not think I can continue like this...feeling so miserable and tired and unwell all the time.
I will also go back to GP for blood repeats. My MJ isn't through the GP but Asda.

The ideal dose is one where you find it easier to stop eating and able to say no to foods rather than a dose where you are feeling so sick you can’t eat.

for sustained weight maintenance you need to be involved in the choice not to eat other wise if you take such a high dose that you can’t eat once you come off you won’t have learned anything ur restrained your eating patterns at all.

you need to use the medication to assist you in making wise food choices. Not croissant and chocolate.

for those of us who struggle with our weight we need to understand these foods are not regular foods for us. Our bodies can’t maintain a healthy weight if we eat them with any regularity.

if you choose to eat them because other slim people do you’ll just get fat again. What other people do is nit relevant to you.

northernlight20 · 06/06/2025 14:06

op, download the nutracheck app, so you can definitely have a good idea of what macros you are eating. your starting weight is low, so you have to concentrate on high protein foods to fill you up and give you energy. goodluck

Hi. I’m losing weight (3 stone so far) by weighing everything and counting calories. It’s taken years to actually start doing it properly, but it is working. Today I had two Weetabix with half a teaspoon of sugar and milk for breakfast. For lunch I had a bread roll with Philadelphia light cheese, pastrami and tomatoes. I also had a bag of mini cheddars. For dinner, I will have a chicken breast with some vegetables and some new potatoes. This will total below 1500 calories and it typical of how I’ve been eating for the last four months. With Mounjuro, are people supposed to stay on it forever and does anyone actually know the long-term side effects? please don’t think I’m having a go, I’m not, but I do worry about potential problems with the weight loss injection. Good luck.
