Prescribing with under active thyroid

Fatmumslim01 · 05/06/2025 14:02

I currently take 5mg of mounjaro and have had it prescribed by Asda (twice) and medexpress. I'm trying to switch supplier each month to keep costs down and take advantage of new order codes etc but having looked on the "monj" site, the cheaper ones or the ones who price match to the cheapest won't take me with thyroid issues. Although my thyroid has been stable for a while now.

Who (cheap places) will prescribe does anyone know? Pillsorted and we prescribe have both said no.

Budget is around £120 for 5mg

I’ve had my thyroid removed and take thyroxine everyday. I’ve just ordered from Levity and they didn’t even ask the thyroid question! (Most other suppliers have but nobody has ever said no because of it). Someone gave me their code and I got £90 off so I think I paid £105 for 10mg. I can give you my code if you’d like it? I’ve also used e surgery with no problems.

CautiousLurker01 · 05/06/2025 14:36

I’ve been diagnosed hypothyroid for 20 years and not had an issue as it’s completely unrelated to a ‘family history of thyroid cancer’ which I think you can be excluded for. Been on ozempic/now MJ for 2.5 years (am on the maintenance dose having lost 6.5st in the first 18months.)

NB you will need to have your thyroid bloods done once you’ve lost 3st or so as the dosage of levothyroxine is linked to your weight and I tipped into hyperthyroid for a few months until they lowered my dose.

Thanks @mumof1or2 but I'm not looking for a subscription service at the moment

Thanks @CautiousLurker01 which pharmacies do you use?

With we prescribe it said "thyroid issues" and ticking yes to that disqualified me. I would say taking thyroxine counts as a thyroid issue?

I’d be cautious of going with WePrescribe then as they clearly don’t understand they prescribing protocols fully and I’d query that they were adequately qualified to screen your application. The only thyroid related issue that doesn’t allow you to use it is a family history of thyroid cancers as there was a tiny incidence of thyroid cancers occurring in early rat studies on GLP1 medications.

I used Juniper originally, but they didn’t have access to Ozempic 2 years ago above low doses during the media frenzy period. Subsequently used DrFranks.co.uk where I transitioned onto mounjaro when it became available. Fully trained nurses screen you and you are seen online monthly. I see the same practitioner and she has got to know both myself and my teenage son really well. It’s not cheap, which seems to be most people’s criteria, but it is safe and medically supervised. Both I and my son have had zoom calls with Dr Franklin Joseph, himself, and he has shown himself to be very hot on the health aspect (he has liaised with my son’s GP). I am actually not comfortable with the fact that people can just move around online providers at will because one is cheaper this month, as though they are buying an every day item from the supermarket - as I would assume their safety procedures and protocols are not as tight.

I have used The Family Chemist for 6 months now, they are very competitive on price and provide a very good service. They don't have a problem with prescribing with hypothyroidism and my endocrinologist is fully on board with the benefits of MJ for my situation. I second above comments about getting the bloods checked regularly, I've just dropped my thyroid meds after losing 5 stone, bloods showed subclinical hyperthyroid.

I used medino for my 2.5mg pen, IQ doctor for 5mg and 7.5mg, and have just recently moved to Simple Online Pharmacy and ordered a 10mg.

I have Hashimoto's with an underactive thyroid, and all these pharmacies have prescribed with no issue. IQ and Simple also price match (Simple is better though as it matches to all discount codes and also before the other pharmacies p&p cost, whereas IQ doctor do it after the p&p cost).

How much did you pay with simple please and how do you get them to price match?

Here is a link to their website about how to price match. It's very easy.
https://www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk/customer-care/price-promise/

I price matched to Pill Sorted for my 7.5mg pen with Simple (using the Pill Sorted £50 new customer discount code that you can find on the monj website). That cost me £123 which included Simple's £4 p&p charge.

The 10mg pen I price matched to Medicine Market Place (they don't use codes, it's just a straight low price) so that cost £129 inc p&p.

Very easy, very quick. They send you a personalised code to use at the checkout, which you have to use within 3 days.

I don’t either! I often find you get the cheapest price if you sign up to a subscription service, get one pen and then cancel the subscription. Most of them allow you to just cancel with no penalties.

Thanks. Do you have to be in for the parcel or will they leave in a nominated safe place please

They deliver by DPD, and although I haven't needed to, I have looked when checking the tracking and it does seem that you can choose a nominated safe place.

CatTraveler · 12/06/2025 09:22

Asking for a friend - they had signed up with Medicine Market Place a couple of weeks ago, and were due to have their verification call this morning but they have just cancelled it as they said they wont prescribe due to their under active thyroid.

Any suggestions about who they could go to that will be the quickest to get MJ, they are desperate to start.

@Fatmumslim01 just an FYI that when you need to reorder do it on advance as I've seen that they have long delays ATM. I used med express for months and they were great until you actually need help from customer service, my delivery went missing and it was a total nightmare trying to get some help as they just copy and paste a script in every reply and it took ages to actually get my refund.
