Slow losers - keeping motivated?

Are there any other slow losers around? I’m at the end of W3 and have lost 6lbs total. I know that as an average, that’s 2lbs a week and that’s just fine but in my first month I was hoping to have had a decent loss, taking into account some of it will be water weight.

I don’t think there’s anything more I can do at this point. My BMI is 40 and I’m eating 1200-1300 cals a day with at least 2ls of water. Not doing any planned exercise but I typically do 6000 steps a day just from working etc. I’m 50 so thinking this is just the way it is now. ‘Back in the day’, I could diet for a week and lose 5lbs in 7 days.

Any other slow and steady ramblers like me?

I would look at taking some exercise. Whether you continue with the WLI or not. 6000 steps isn’t a huge number, it should be easy to get that up a bit.

Early days for me yet as I've only done 2weeks with a 4lb loss. I fully expected this as I'm a little older than you and have dieted most of my life. I'm also short.
It's disheartening when you read people who have such huge losses in the first week or so but I consider it a marathon not a sprint and even if I now just lose 1lb a week I tell myself it's healthy and more likely to stay off.
I find it helps to imagine myself with a waist again adorned by a fitted top .... I can't remember the last time I haven't worn a baggy jumper or top.
Don't lose heart ....keep going!
Plan your Xmas day outfit.
Good luck x

Also meant to say that there is a thread for June 2025 losers .....why not join us?

Slow losers - more sustainable, less likely to get serious side effects like vitamin deficiencies (causing hair loss), pancreatitis etc. If you’re feeling well and losing consistently i honestly think that’s positive.

BrunchBarBandit · 05/06/2025 06:49

That’s not loosing slow!

I’m 11 months in and have only lost 2 stone. That’s slow 😆

But it’s steady, and healthy and I don’t worry about saggy skin or lost muscle or counting calories.

There is an ongoing slow losers thread

I’ve been taking MJ for just over a year & my average is “only” 1.59lb a week. Ive plateaued for weeks, even gained on a few too! It all adds up though, A 6 stone loss so far for me & I'm very happy.

MissFizzyPop · 05/06/2025 07:33

I've a feeling I will be in the slow loser camp - W2D1 and taking my 2nd dose today. I've lost 1.6lbs despite religiously sticking to a calorie deficit and running 2/3 times week. I think I need to move more on my non running days. One of the side effects I was most worried about was hair thinning, as I already have thin hair so avoiding the rapid loss is a good thing for me.

Kipperandarthur · 05/06/2025 07:41

I'm week 6 and have lost 9.5lbs on my scales or 11lbs on the pharmacy scales.

Slow and steady is the way to go even if it is frustrating reading about other people's losses. It's far more than just taking weight off. It's about establishing new patterns and making better food choices. I am consciously trying to balance my mindset with the weight loss and not just focus on the numbers.

If I could actually achieve on average a 1.5lb weight loss across a year I would be utterly delighted.

I do think that those who are taking a pragmatic approach to this and actively changing the way they eat, establishing new and healthy routines and combining exercise are going to have more success in the long run.

It's no good just getting the weight off and then thinking hoorah done it, now I can revert back to what I used to do before!

Ah this is all very helpful advice, thank you. Yes, I realise I need to build some exercise into my plan now. About a year ago I bought a VR headset with exercise games on - you get a brilliant all over workout with them. So I’m going to blow the dust off the headset and build that in a few times to my week. Part of the issue is that I have a busy, stressful job (mostly desk based) so I come home totally wrecked. But that’s no excuse - I just need to push myself to get some more movement into my day.

I’m encouraged to read of other people’s less ‘dramatic’ weight losses too. Ya’ll are right - this is a long term strategy and I really don’t want ‘mounjaro face’.

If u can, look into getting a walking pad, I love mine and use it a lot more than I ever thought I would. I use it mainly while watching tv, has definitely helped with the weight loss. It’s my 13th week on Mounjaro and total loss is 27lb

Noiamnotalison · 05/06/2025 10:28

My losses were similar at first and over 9 months I’ve averaged a smidgen over a pound a week on 2.5mg. But a pound plus a pound plus a pound adds up. I’ve now lost 45 pounds at that rate and am a healthy BMI. I’ve felt really well through out and not struggling with much loose skin despite being older. (still struggled with hair loss though so not all plain sailing).

it still feels miraculous to me to be back at a healthy weight in less than a year.
