How to Get Started?

I have a BMI of 35 and I'm pre-diabetic with a number of other weight-related issues. I've put on 5 stone in as many years and I'm stuck in a particularly vicious circle of eating to make myself feel better, then gaining MORE weight, feeling crap about myself... and you get the gist.

I would like to try Mounjaro and went through an online pharmacy this morning who have asked for my medical records to be sent through. Phoned the GP, emailed in, got re-directed to the booking app, now have an appointment with a GP for the end of next week.

The GP can't prescribe mounjaro, so I'm stuck in a bit of an annoying loop, waiting for 10 days just to be back at square one.

Any advice welcome!

Choose another pharmacy? I’ve never been asked for my medical records. I’ve used Asda, Zava and Pharmacy2U so far.

Ermm yes, go to another pharmacy. Not sure what asking for your medical records is about unless you have one of the very specific conditions that mean there's a caution in prescribing mounjaro (gallbadder stuff, family history of a very particular thyroid cancer). Usually it's the other way round - pharmacy prescribes and informs your GP so it can be added to your records.

So that's not normal then? I tried the Independend Pharmacy, which was recommended by a relative. This is what they said:

As a fully regulated online pharmacy we are bound to strict clinical guidelines surrounding the provision of medication online.
These guidelines are regularly updated and it may affect medication which previously did not have the same requirements.
Due to a recent update, the clinical team is required to check your medical records before progressing with your order.

Thanks for the responses, if this is not the standard reply, I'll just try somehwere else!

I’ve used simple pharmacy and curare and never been asked for records

SilenceInside · 03/06/2025 17:02

@3oldladiesstuckinalavatory that’s their individual and extremely strict interpretation of the recent guideline update, so it’s not standard at all.

Another vote for trying somewhere else. I've used Asda and medexpress.

Thanks for your replies - I'm glad I posted now, otherwise I might just given up the idea entirely. It seems that The Independent Pharmacy might just be an outlier so I'll try elsewhere.

I've shopped around for cheapest and never been asked for that. I've used med express, asda, zava, iq doctor and now oushk..

Try one of them, all will give you first customer discount too..

Kipperandarthur · 03/06/2025 17:49

I made a face to face appointment with my local pharmacy who prescribes direct. This might be the quickest and easiest route for you.

Lazygardener · 03/06/2025 17:55

This is definitely not the norm. Regulations have tightened, but they don't require release of medical records. For example, in response to the changing regulations, Oushk require a 5 minute video call with a customer, just to check identity and weight. I suppose if there was something that sounded problematic about your order, the pharmacy might ask for records, but if not, shop around.
