If you start when you’re obese, do you have to stop when you’re no longer obese but still want overweight?!

Hypothetical for me as I’m waiting for my first delivery to arrive…but just wondering.

so my BMI is 33. Would I have to stop if I reached BMI of 30, even though I’d still be in the overweight category?

or can got carry on until you are no longer overweight?

No. Your provider should counsel you along the way, but you tend to continue using the medication until you have a BMI of 23-25, at which point you start a maintenance programme and start reducing the dosage each month.

That’s great, thank you!

It’s entirely up to you and what target you set for yourself (down to to bmi 23-25) Personally I started at BMI 37 and goal is 24-25 BMI (currently at 33 now at week 12 after a 2st loss)

BatFaceChops · 02/06/2025 20:47

I’ve been at target for nearly 6 months now and maintain on 5mg. My BMI is 22 something

Alas, studies show that the weight comes back on if you stop so, for me, it’s going to be a long term medication I think.

Thanks all, I assumed that because you can’t get it prescribed initially if your BMI is less than 27, that you wouldn’t continue to be prescribed it once you’d hit that. Glad to hear that isn’t the case.

Thats for new customers. Most providers provide down to 23-25 and a few providers accept for maintainance , it’s good to shop around after a few pens as prices do vary around providers . List of providers and prices and the ones that do maintenance

Does anyone know, once your BMI drops below 30, do you have to be able to prove you were on it with a BMI of over 30 or do you just need to prove your last prescription? Ive kept all my boxes so far with the prescription label on and my starting weight photos but don't know if I actually need to tbh

Pashazade · 03/06/2025 08:39

I haven’t been asked for proof, just entered my weight every month when I’ve reordered (Asda Pharmacy). Gone from BMI of 37 to 28 so far.

@Fatmumslim01 to change provider at a lower bmi you need proof of previous prescription. I kind of assume they trust in the previous prescriber to have done the initial checks🤷‍♀️ Box labels are the thing unless you have a screenshot of any order details etc.

I too have kept all my boxes but that's my internal hoarder tendencies!! If you don't want them, maybe take photos so you have proof of you ever are questioned.

Re the photo, keep it as a reminder of the work you have done. In the future, if guidelines change, a prescriber might ask for proof but I don't think I've seen one yet!
