Will some people never reach a size 10?!

Not meant to be as goady as it sounds!

I have lost nearly 4 stone in 18 months. All of that was on Wegovy and I swapped to Mounjaro a few months ago thinking about the longer term because I knew it was recommended for maintenance.

I’m about to start the 7.5mg so still not at maximum dose on mounjaro but I’ve not really lost any weight in 4-5 months. I do get suppression but can still easily eat 1400 calories a day. I keep losing and gaining the same 1-2 pounds.

My current BMI is around 27… I’m 5ft 4 and weigh 11s 12. My starting weight was 15.7 so I’ve done well but slowly and steadily over the first 12 months. I’ve gone from an 18 to a 14 in clothes which is great, and I’m fairly happy at this size. However part of me would love to be a 10 or 12, but is it just not achievable for some people?!

I have never had complete suppression even at max dose on Wegovy. But it helped massively with cravings and snacking… I’ve just never been one of the “I haven’t wanted to eat at all” type people! So maybe I’m just destined to not go any lower in weight?!

Hmmm. Well done you. Such a great weight loss. You must feel brilliant. To go lower you probably need to shave off some calories or up your exercise. I think it is achievable but it is work, absolutely. As someone who was obese but now your height and 9st 6 I eat so much less that I thought a normal person needs. I think it’s about a long term readjustment about how much food you need. All this aside, keep going. What you’ve done is amazing.

MarshaMarshaMarsha · 01/06/2025 10:59

Thank you for your reply and well done on your amazing loss! Can I ask what dress size you are? I can’t imagine ever being under 10 (or even 11 stone!)

And yes I think you’re right on the calorie/exercise front.

I’ve never been skinny even as a child/teen, I wonder if that also comes into the equation.

What soapytw said basically, I think it's a real shock how little food you can eat to lose weight realistically, I'm about your height and it's coming off me but I'm only eating about 1000 to 1100 cals a day with walking for exercise. I track food with nutracheck, and I couldn't do it without mounjaro, I would think about lowering your cals and upping your exercise if you really want to lose more, I'm now down to 10 stone 6 , but still a size 14, I want to be a 12 and a BMI of about 22. If you're happy to maintain though so be it. I just want to keep going losing whilever I can afford mounjaro, I eat sensibly I think and would be able to eat the same as you are cal wise to maintain which hopefully I will ,good luck.

I was never a size 10 on top, even when I was slim in my teens and 20s. I have broad shoulders and am top heavy in the boob department.

I’m usually a 10 now but sometimes an 8. It does feel brilliant. But I’ve had to completely retrain my mindset around food. I find sugar is the devil: I’ve detoxed this hugely and also do intermittent fasting 4 ish days a week (no food until lunch. Avoiding sugary foods - veggies not fruit, whole not processed food) just coffee before then. I think eating sugar creates cravings and I really do think we are used to elevated blood sugar levels.

it’s been a hard road but after being a size 20, pre diabetic, constantly snacking, lying to myself I’ll never go back now. This is a lifestyle.

good luck OP

Have you worked or recalculated out your tdee and deficit?
Mine is now 1200, it was 1300 at 13 stones when I started bmi 32.4 5ft3" lost 2st 8.5lbs in 8 months, I'm now 10st 7.5lbs bmi 26. I was also always a chubby kid, big tummy looked 3 months pregnant at 18, lowest weight recorded at GP was 64kg in 2008. I'm now 67kg size 12, always had insulin resistance and few years ago prediabetic so I'm a slow loser 1lb a week average but I have found the higher doses 10mg and above are working better and sorted out my blood sugar symptoms.
I definitely lose better when doing lower carb, more protein and drink more water.

Since you've transitioned from wegovy, I've seen many posts where they don't see effects until higher doses, so try to move up ASAP and that may make a difference with suppression which will let you get to lower calories to lose weight. Mounjaro is more effective so hopefully will kick in for you soon.

TimeForATerf · 01/06/2025 11:54

I could have got down to a size 10 on mounjaro easily but I choose to stop at a comfortable 12, it’s looks better at age 59 on me.

MrsMiagi · 01/06/2025 11:59

I don't think i will be without some type of body recomposition. I have a large stomach area so even with 33 pounds loss I'm not fully down a dress size yet. Started at 14 stone 10.

spoonbillstretford · 01/06/2025 12:04

Depends on your build - shoulder and hip width etc and muscle tone/fat ratio, but I'd say at a normal BMI most people would be between a size 6 and a 12 being 5'4". DD1 is 5'4" and a fit nine stone odd and is a size 6/8.

I'm 5'7" and 165lbs - goal weight is 154lbs (11st), I've lost 21lbs since March. I'm quite a muscular but narrower frame with not much fat on the middle and am a 10 on top and 12 on the bottom half now. Before losing the weight I was 12/14 on top and 14 bottoms. I'm in a nice sweet spot at the moment that my clothes (mostly 12s that I was squeezing into if I'm honest) just fit nicely/a bit on the loose side but look nice. I have had to buy new bras and pants this week though - size 10 shorts and 34D bra (from 34E so down two cup sizes).

Good luck OP, you are doing very well.

DGonMJ · 01/06/2025 12:11

Well done on losing 4 stone, if you’ve not lost any weight while on MJ it could be that you need a much higher dose to see any effects as your body is used to GLP from the Wegovy. But you’ve maintained, rather than gained, and that’s great so it could be that once you reach your target weight, you can go back down to 5mg and know that it will keep the weight off at around 1400 calories. If this feels restrictive rather than sustainable then you might want to think about increasing your muscle mass/adding more exercise into your week.

I’m 5’5” and now 9st 9lbs
In Jan I started at 12st 7lbs a large 14, small 16.
My ‘slim’ size after any previous diet/exercise regime has always been 12. But after 22 weeks of Mounjaro I was shocked to walk into a shop yesterday and try on size 10s.
On MJ I’ve tracked calories and exercised as with previous weightloss efforts but also increased my protein and water intake - in my mid 40s I’m realising that protein and hydration is more important than ever. And muscle mass is not just a calorie burner but is important for insulin sensitivity.

I think this is right. I have a lot of food intolerances and I've had to swith to no suger/wheat/dairy. I only eat roasted meat, rice/potatoes and vegetables. No fruit or suger or junk.

Before I did that change I had terrible problems controlling my weight and was constantly hungry and calorie counting.

The thing I find is that I have to work at keeping my weight from dropping too far. Without the sugar, I don't get the snack cravings and if I forget to eat, my weight drops too low.

Having said that, I have never been as small as a size 10. I'm currently a 14, but am 5'10" so not sure if that affects it.

Doggymummar · 01/06/2025 12:41

I did the switch too, lost 4 stone on W and moved to MJ in September last year. I was on 15mg by Christmas and that's when weightloss began. I've lost over 2 stone since Christmas and am depending on BRAND between an 8 and a 12 on top and a 10 or 12 on bottom. BMI is 29 and I still have about three stone to lose to be in healthy range, I imagine that will be a couple more dress sizes. It seems mad to me.

WeAllHaveWings · 01/06/2025 13:27

I am 5'8" and the last time I was a size 10 I was a teenager (and 5'10.5" - I've shrunk), before I started hormonal contraception which quickly piled on 2-3 stone and boobs went from pancakes to a DD cup.

Mid 50's, post menopause I have no idea what weight I would need to be a size 10 but I doubt it would be healthy for me. I'll just got to BMI 29 (started BMI 45) and just now fitting into size 16 jeans - getting into a 14 for the first time since my 20s would be amazing.

MarshaMarshaMarsha · 01/06/2025 13:36

Thanks so much all. I won’t reply to individuals as I find it quite fiddly, sorry!

I do track everything on nutracheck and have done from day one. It gives me around 1350 a day allowance to keep losing weight slowly but then some gets added on as I do quite a lot of walking. However being v honest if I have a meal out etc I still just want to choose something I enjoy rather than a superfood salad for example! 🤣

I have definitely improved my diet but I’m also realistic in that I know long term I still need to have foods I enjoy. So the odd fun size chocolate bar for pudding, grapes and apples as my fruit of choice etc (I know not the best in terms of sugar but I enjoy them). So I guess I need to weigh up what I’m happiest doing… being a bit bigger but still enjoying my food, or cutting out everything I like to be slimmer. I do also need to think about my wrinkles as have definitely gained a turkey neck and crows feet since losing the fat off my face!

I will see what happens once I’ve gone up to the highest dose. I miss seeing the scales moving downwards I have to say!

Thanks everyone for your insights :)

When I was 21 and as fit as a butcher's dog competing in a power sport, I was usually a size 14, but my back was so well muscled that there were some 14s I couldn't get into. So i don't expect to get below a 14 nor do I want to. I have a big frame and that's fine.

I started as an uncomfortably large 20 with a BMI of over 34, and am currently a 16-18 with a BMI of under 28. I would like to get down to a small 16, possibly a 14 I suppose but I dont really mind.

CoastalCalm · 01/06/2025 13:50

I will never be a size 10 , I’m 5’10 and have a big frame , size 9 feet and large hands etc - when I was extremely ill I got down to 11 stone and was just skin and bones and still a size 14

RebelliousHoping · 01/06/2025 14:05

Yes I think some people will never reach this size. Gladly in my case as I remember after part starving myself (then) and crying in bhs over trousers back in 2008 as a size 12 when I was heading towards mild depression having accomplished the WL.

Even doing my 6 month face picture comparison this morning for an alcohol change community I’ve had a rude awakening since 1st January I have been lucky to lose literally little over a stone in 6 months by heck that is slow. (I haven’t been starving myself)

Nearly 135 days off alcohol this year. One thing that is slapping my face or come to light is the exercise now I’m kind of being prevented doing/ or least much less then I am used to. Remained same weight for roughly a fortnight.

Icedcaramelfrappe · 01/06/2025 14:25

If you keep going I think you will get there, 7.5 is only half of the maximum so you have lots of leeway to move up if you want to
