I am at my wits end. I have been on a calorie deficit and been walking over 4 miles per day and gym 3 days a week and still not managed to budge any weight! I have explained this to my doctor and under going tests and also been through a dietician who has said my diet is very healthy and they aren't sure why im not losing weight.

I am now at the point of wondering should I use oral weight loss tablets. I dont think I could handle injecting myself hence why I am thinking of tablets.

Has anyone used these weight loss tablets? Orlos,Alli,Orlistat. Did they work? How much did you lose and in what time frame?

I just want to be more confident in myself

I’ve lost a stone in 4 weeks, From a needlephobe, they are so fine and tiny you don’t notice!! No advice for the others sorry xx

Histoscientist · 30/05/2025 15:05

Genuinely if you've tried exercise and eating healthy you might have a metabolic, hormonal or inflammatory conditions, which mounjaro will really help with. I was prediabetic and had ibs and anaemia and mounjaro has reversed all these and I've lost 2.5 stones and now an easy size 12 at 10st 7.5lbs.
The needle is tiny only 4mm and you don't even feel it as you jab into the fatty areas like tummy or thigh. I'd honestly give it a go.
Orlistat just stops you digesting fat so a lot of people end up with horrible GI side effects and leaking oil from their bottoms wherever they go!

CherryBlossomTree999 · 30/05/2025 15:23

I honestly don’t know why Orlistat is still being prescribed. Honestly I would consider injections over these vile pills. If you’re eating a healthy diet with not much fat they won’t really work for you as they just take the excess out your system. Accidentally eat something out that contains more than you thought and it can have horrific consequences. Never again would I take these

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 30/05/2025 15:52

I took Orlistat in the past.
They do work, but they cause quite bad diarrhoea.

And they don't suppress your appetite. They just stop you absorbing some of the fat you eat.

Mounjaro on the other hand, does suppress your appetite and it resets the way sugar is metabolised.

The needles are so tiny, you don't notice them.

I lost a stone in three months with Orlistat, and then it kind of stopped working. And my appetite for crap was as big as ever.

So I started MJ and I've lost 7st 4lb so far.

What's your BMI @LilSimsie?

My BMI is 34. I’m at 14stone 10lbs. Not been this weight since pregnant with my second. I lost weight in covid and was so happy but it just seemed to pile on and bring its mates 😂 do you exercise still? I don’t wanna get saggy skin from losing too quickly.

Honestly just go for the Mounjaro.
it’s not a given that you will lose weight quickly and get saggy skin. You could stay at a lower dose and do it slowly. If you are over a certain age/bmi then saggy skin will probably be a consequence of any type of diet/weight loss.

I walk more than I used to.
I don't do any other exercise.

I started at 14 stone 10 17 weeks ago. 33.3 pounds down on mounjaro. I didn't lose quickly and skin not saggy at the moment. I have had terrible hair loss though. I did try alli and you just leak oil, i found it disgusting.
Haven't had gastric side effects so far.

Pyjamatimenow · 01/06/2025 08:00

I took orlistst for years on and off. Lost minimal amounts of weight and was always on the toilet and having accidents, I have lost 3.5 stone on mounjaro with little in the way of side effects apart from appetite suppression

suzisomething · 14/06/2025 20:52

I've just started taking Alli tablets (today). Going to see how I go, but if the side effects are too bad, I'll stop. I'm also following Slimming World from home, so finger's crossed!!

endzone · 14/06/2025 21:21

If you are in a Clare deficit and not losing weight that’s needs investigating. Weight loss meds help you stay in a calorie deficit, you are already doing it so none of them seem like a reasonable answer

formerlyknownasBookrat · 15/06/2025 09:34

There is a tablet that works on the same principles as the injections: mysimba. It is supplied by Zava and Asda, amongst others.

The main advantage for me was that I also didn't want to inject and tablets seemed like less fuss. At the time the tablet was slightly cheaper than injections (don't know if that's still true.) Like injections you titrate up, from one tablet a day to four, so you can control the effects to some extent. Also, because it is a daily dose, you don't have peak supression (or peak side effects) because it is spread evenly.

Disadvantages are that providers don't seem to be interested in negotiating a smaller maintenance dose and also, since it is not so well known, there isn't a support community in the way there is with mounjaro. Lastly, the claims made for its success are less spectacular than those made for injections.

Since January I have lost two and a half stone, from suppression and lack of capacity. I found from day one that I didn't want to snack at all, but did want to eat protein and veggies, just not in huge amounts.

Sideffects have been constipation (which comes back if I take my eye off the ball) and, in the early days, intermittent nausea. Nothing else significant.

If you are interested there is at least one mysimba thread on Mumsnet (currently dormant) which gives some idea of what to expect.

WorriedRelative · 15/06/2025 09:55

Honestly just go for mounjaro, it is life changing. The injections are super easy, you barely notice as the needle is tiny.

Mounjaro is life changing becsue it helps you stay in a calorie deficit, OP is already doing that but not lost any weight - that needs investigating first

SansOgm · 15/06/2025 10:36

I used to handle adverse event reporting when orlistat was brand new and I used to keep a tally of how many times a day I had to type "anal seepage"

The monjaro needles are tiny, you can't feel them. The idea of it is much worse than than actually doing it.

What did you decide OP? I am not eligible for the jabs. So I’ve ordered these pills.
