Slow Loser Journey Update

Jenasaurus · 30/05/2025 09:27

I have been on Mounjaro since last year and the first month lost a stone but since then my weight loss has slowed down to barely a pound a week, but I have today worked out in total I have lost 41 pounds, and realise I am making progress, I wanted to share my weight loss chart to encourage other slower losers to keep going, as we all get there in the end, just takes a little longer for some of us. My BMI is now 25 (It was 33), I have another 4 pounds to get into a healthy weight but am going to aim to lose a stone to get into the middle of a healthy BMI.

There is a plodders club you can join for slow losers if interested.
I'm a slow loser too lost 35lbs in almost 8 months. 8lbs until I get to 10st my target but its slowed right down now. My bmi is 26 and I started at 32.4, I'm also prediabetic and had high blood pressure and anaemia. I needed the higher doses to lose, I'm now on 15mg.

41 lbs is fabulous. Well done.

We seem to be in a similar situation, I am almost 10 stone too :) I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol back in 2022. I managed to get into remission through weight loss, which felt like a huge win at the time. But, maintaining that weight loss long-term was really tough. After a holiday in 2024, I regained quite a bit of the weight I had lost.
That’s when I decided to try Mounjaro. It’s been a game-changer for me—my HbA1c dropped from 80 to 37, which I’m incredibly grateful for.
Cholesterol has been a tougher nut to crack. Despite my best efforts with diet and weight loss, my levels stayed high. After seeing an endocrinologist, I found out it’s hereditary. My total cholesterol was 9.4, and with the help of statins, it’s now down to 7. The goal is to get it to 3, so I’m hoping my next blood test in June shows more progress.
It’s been a journey of ups and downs, but I’m learning to be patient with myself and celebrate the wins along the way.

Also I am still on 10mg, I have been on it a few months and got one more pen of that in the fridge after this one is finished and then moving up to 12.5mg so maybe that will give my body the final push. I will then have to work out a maintenance dose with my prescriber.

Well done! you've done incredible, not just with the weight loss but HBA1C from 80 to 37 is brilliant! I bet you feel so much better too.
How did you lose the weight the first time round? Just before mounjaro I lost 5lbs in 6 weeks by following a calorie deficit and Joe Wicks HIIT exercises, I was strict with them doing 4-5 sessions a week and eating healthy with green chef cooking meals from scratch and home cooking. It was great to lose weight but I literally was exhausted with also working full time and a 2-3hrs commute. I just couldn't keep it sustained so had to give up the exercise. I then moved onto mounjaro since last October.
Good luck on your cholesterol, I do work in the nhs so know about hereditary cholesterol and know others who have it, you can do your best with food etc but the weight loss should really help.
What is your target and do you think you will stay on a low dose or taper off it?
I think 15mg is too high for me, since 10mg I've felt weary and a lack of joy or wanting to do anything, I think it's the dopamine disruption and it gets worse the higher I go up the doses. I wanted to go on 15mg to try to maximise my losses but I may have to go down. Other than that I've not had any side effects.

During lockdown, I found myself turning to food for comfort and gradually gained weight until I reached 14 stone 10 lbs. At 5'3", this left me feeling extremely uncomfortable. To put it into perspective, the last time I had been anywhere near that weight was during my pregnancy—at nine months, carrying a 10-pound baby, I weighed 13 stone. But this time, I wasn’t pregnant—I just couldn’t stop eating. I was constantly hungry and felt out of control.

Around the same time, I began experiencing intense itching and developed what I thought were insect bites. With limited access to healthcare during the pandemic, I tried every home remedy I could find—antihistamines, permethrin (thinking it might be scabies), bleach baths—you name it. Nothing worked. Eventually, I managed to see a doctor, and by then my skin was covered in red, itchy nodules and scabs from scratching. I was referred to a dermatologist, who diagnosed me with Nodular Prurigo, a chronic skin condition often linked to underlying systemic issues.

Blood tests revealed something even more serious: I had extremely high glucose levels. Follow-up tests confirmed I had type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, and a scan showed fatty deposits in both my liver and pancreas. I was devastated. But that fear became a turning point.

I completely overhauled my lifestyle—cut out carbs, adopted intermittent fasting, and committed to a healthier routine. By my next appointment, I had lost over 5 stone, bringing my weight down to 9 stone. My HbA1c dropped from 80 to 44, moving me into the prediabetic range. Even better, my liver function normalized and the fatty liver resolved. However, my cholesterol remained high, so I was prescribed statins.

Unfortunately, statins made dieting harder. I felt constantly hungry and fell into the trap of thinking the medication would "fix" everything, which led to me regaining much of the weight—I was back up to 13 stone 10 by October. I knew I couldn’t keep yo-yo dieting, so I made the decision to try Mounjaro, to regulate blood sugar and appetite. I also stopped the statins temporarily to see if the injections alone could help manage my cholesterol.

The results have been promising—my weight is dropping again, and I’m about a stone away from my goal. I’ve since resumed the statins alongside Mounjaro and am awaiting updated blood results in June. I’m hopeful.

One unexpected but welcome outcome: my skin cleared up completely. It turns out that the itching and nodules were likely linked to liver dysfunction—itchy skin can be an early sign of liver issues. Once I lost the weight and cut out carbs, the symptoms vanished.

I’ve come to realize that I can be my own worst enemy—diving into things with full force, then losing motivation. I also have ADHD, which makes me crave stimulation—often through food. But Mounjaro has helped curb those cravings, and I finally feel like I have a tool that works with me, not against me.

Well done for getting through all that and even losing the 5 stone initially on your own before weight loss injections.
I'm also 5ft 3" and got to 13st 1lbs, I think the turning point was my size 14s were tight and I was out of breath and achy muscles even going up stairs and could not do a lot of the yoga classes and retreats I went on, it was embarrassing with my poor flexibility and being unfit, a simple few mile walk or a few flights of stairs would hurt my chest. I had 4 bouts of serious covid infection, which did affect my lungs long term and I've always been the worst for lung capacity. I also had a run of respiratory and dental infections in 2022, 7 in 6 months including one with an overnight stay in a+e, I didn't know I was prediabetic because my GP didnt test for it on my nhs health check in june 2022, my GP said its the post mask wearing period. I also hadn't eaten meat for 5 years so my health was poor. Only realised I was prediabetic 2 weeks ago when I changed GPs and got access to my digital records. My blood was tested in Sept 2023 when I had a frozen shoulder and it my HBA1C was 45, my GP never mentioned it, or that a liver test was abnormally high and plasma glucose top of range 5.8mmol in my health check.
I haven't had bloods done since but I do feel a lot better with my sugar symptoms so I do think it's helped and can finally fast without feeling faint, dizzy, having shaking hands or mood swings.
Good luck for your results in June, I'm sure it will be good news.
What are your plans for when you hit your goal? Will you taper down or stay on a low dose?
