Do you still miss food?

I’m only on W2 (at 2.5mg) and my body is still adjusting. No SE and the impact so far is that it takes me longer between meals to get hungry and I stay full for longer. All good.

Today though I really missed the comfort of food. Saturdays I’d often cook a big meal and we’d have wine and chill but today I was like, ‘what do I do?’ It’s as though my routine has been totally screwed with and although not hungry, I miss it!

I’m hoping this will change in time and that I can retrain my brain to think about food in a far healthier way but just wondering where others are at on the WLI journey and if this has changed at all?

No I still eat what I fancy just a lot less of it so enjoy cooking etc

I still cook for my family as I did before, I just have very much smaller portion and change the balance of what I do have so that there’s more protein less carbs and more veg on my plate.

I can understand feeling a bit disconcerted if you feel you have to change your normal kinds of routines. But I think it’s about adapting them rather than getting rid of them altogether.

I’m 20 weeks in, and I still find ways to enjoy food. It’s not every day and some days I’m really just eating for fuel rather than joy. But I’m enjoying looking up new recipes, cooking different meals so it’s not just grilled chicken and boiled veg. Experimenting with low calorie high protein meals that also taste good (ChatGPT has been a helpful menu planner). On high suppression days I don’t want flavours that are too intense, but towards the end of the week food can taste more delicious. But you will probably have to find other ways to unwind or mark ‘chill’ time if you associated a big weekend meal with that. A long walk, or a new hobby/project.
I also book meals out with friends & family - I order the healthier option and stop eating when full. The social aspect is important to me.

I try to eat all the same things as usual, and I naturally just eat much less of them, but still enjoy what I have. The exception is that I would automatically eat dessert most days before, and now I actually tell myself once a week to have a dessert. I enjoy it a lot when I do have it but if I didn't make the effort to schedule it I wouldn't think of it.

Ive used it as a chance to revamp our menu a bit so more protein and less carbs. We use a healthy recipe delivery company twice a week and are really enjoying eating a huge variety. Dh is losing weight without being on mj thanks to our new approach (although he still snacks and has a takeaway as he needs more calories than me!)

Not really because I still cook what I want and eat what I want, just far less of it! I can still make a cake, cook pizzas, go out for dinner etc. I just don’t have the emotional pull/constant thinking about having another slice etc. I’m also more focussed on a healthier diet for all at home and so make sure that I look out for myself but make sure everyone else has a delicious, nutritious meal.

I don't miss anything because I don't think of food anymore. I eat more to fuel, I do like a variety of food and couldn't eat the same thing all the time just because its healthy but my food cravings and preferences have changed so I was a crisp and cheese addict and now i crave more fresh foods like salads and protein rather than carbs and junk food. I've not had pasta in 7 months! Just don't want it anymore. I've also experienced the dopamine disruption throughout my journey that mounjaro has been shown to do, and it has worsened with higher doses, so I don't have as much interest or joy in food or anything at all like going out or socialising like I used to unfortunately.

I used my time on MJ and being in groups like this to change my mindset about portion sizes, what food group is best in bigger quantities, etc but I did not completely eliminate anything.
I cook for the family daily and that has not changed, it’s just that I’ll fill my plates with less carbs and more vegetables and protein, etc. I also made some swaps and reduced quantities of things like oil, etc when I’m cooking. I follow lots of healthier cooking pages on Instagram etc so I’m enjoying finding lots of new things to cook that are not calorie heavy.
I’ve been off MJ for over 3.5 months now and I’ve continued doing the same things. For example I bake lots of lovely cakes for my kids birthdays etc but in the past, I would have shared half of the cake at their party and brought the other half home to eat, etc but now, at their parties, I cut the whole cake and take a slice for me to enjoy at home and that’s it. I still eat the cake but now it’s a slice when before, it would have been 7 slices, etc . At Easter, I got myself an egg and ate it on Easter Monday and that was it, before I would have been buying and eating the eggs, chocolates, etc since when it’s been on sale in the shops.
I’ll say continue to cook the nice meals and enjoy the small portion if that’s what you can stomach.

It looks like this is a habitual change OP rather than a "I miss food". This is the time to introduce new habits and new traditions. Try a walk instead!

I've found habits the hardest to kick with this. I don't want food, but I have a habit of eating in front of the TV. I've replaced it with keeping my hands busy with some beautiful colouring books, doing my nails, phone games etc... I realise I need to keep my hands busy.

It's very strange to want something that you don't want..... 🤔🤔🤔🤔

I still enjoy food and enjoy cooking. I have bought 3 new cookbooks since starting MJ, two are on pulses/beans specifically as I'm trying to change my diet.

Perhaps you were a boredom eater at times, I think I certainly was. I am exercising more (I already did a lot), but I have added an extra swim each week and 2 body pump classes.

I have also taken up a new hobby of building miniature dolls houses/book nooks. It's fun and relaxing, and gives me stuff to do with my hands instead.

Ah, this is it exactly - wanting something I don’t even want!

It feels like a sense of small loss. My weekends were centered around food (and wine) and now they’re not, I’m a bit ‘what now?’

But yes I hope that by doing this I’m learning new habits! It is possible to have a lovely day that is not punctuated with a big meal. It’s just retraining my brain to start thinking that way.
