Team RH; is it worth the money?

I've lost 30kg in the last year, but I've slowed right down and only lost 5kg of that in the last 5 months. I need a re-focus.

Would love to hear from anyone who has used the app, is it worth the £8 a month?

The owner and CEO is a vile misogynist and well known to be a bully towards his staff. Whether or not his app is effective, I wouldn't give him my money.

WafflingDreamer · 21/05/2025 06:12

Mumsnet is very anti team rh so you won't get much of an opinion I'm afraid. Previous threads tend to have people shouted down for even daring to say it's OK. personally he used to swear a lot which was hard with kids around while watching videos. My personal opinion is he's a very clever narcissist who knows how to get attention, once you get passed that it's a pretty decent plan and a good tracker.

People get very angry that whether you pay a yearly fee or monthly you are agreeing to pay for the whole year. I had the same issue with my national trust membership you can cancel mid year but you keep paying until your renewal date.

Koazy · 21/05/2025 06:23

I hadn’t heard of him until I a saw numerous threads on here and now I’d avoid like the plague

Mounraine · 21/05/2025 07:02

It seems convenient that he changed his mind about WLI (and the “lazy, fat people” who take them) once he realised he could make money from it.

OrchidOrchard · 21/05/2025 07:11

I use it for the tracker/macros. It’s easy to use and keeps me on track with protein/fibre. My auto renewal date is looming and looking for an alternative. I don’t find him offensive ir anything I just don’t use any features apart from that.

Swampthing55 · 21/05/2025 07:13

I'm sick and tired of shouty men telling me to move my arae more to lose weight so it's a no from me. On the Oushk FB page they seem to worship him, which says it all if you ask me.

Shego · 21/05/2025 08:39

Good to know, thanks. I think I will avoid and look for an alternative.

I'm sure I'll be told I must have terrible self esteem and poor taste in men and all the abuse people get on here for admitting belonging to Team RH but imo its a good app, the food tracker is very good, you measure to the gram and include everything.
The calorie targets is high enough so weight loss is moderate, the protein and fibre goals are high to maintain muscle mass and digestive transit..
You need to weigh daily, then the weight is averaged over the week and each week compared. Once you get over the emotional side of daily weight I think its a very good idea as you build up a understanding of normal fluctuations and see the overall patterns of weight loss.

Maneattraction · 21/05/2025 08:44

Richie is a very marmite character, but if you avoid him and use the app that’s ok.

Try James Smith academy as an alternative.

The app is really good for tracking calories. Personally I find Ritchie quite funny, but obviously he isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

ScaryM0nster · 21/05/2025 09:02

The app has a very user friendly interface. Is clear on both total calorie targets and the breakdowns like protein etc.

It’s ad free. Has a good range of foods. The search function works well. Shows pictures of stuff so easy to spot when scrolling results. Barcode scanner too.

Also gives traffic light faces on nutritional density of what you’re eating which I’ve found educational.

Whether or not the style of the wider Team RH stuff is your thing, I’m happy paying for a not shit ap. My fitness pal is so ad heavy that it’s hard to use and see what you’re doing.

I need all the help I can get minimising faff and to me that’s worth the £8.

Julesni77 · 21/05/2025 09:21

I use nutricheck - think it is £26 a year although if you have a limited knowledge of nutrition what team rh teaches is sound but you may not enjoy his style - James Smith is the same with less misogyny

I was a member and lost weight pre jabs but again like every other time could not sustain it

GreenSpeckledFrog · 30/06/2025 05:46

He must be making 10s of thousands every single month.

People on my MJ Facebook all love him too.

I was curious how he sets the calories so high for a lot of people (hence looking on mn) as I'm eating a lot less (whole food, upf free, protein) and not sure what the difference is.

PumpkinSly · 30/06/2025 07:23

Every time I see his ads, I can't swipe away from his idiot face quickly enough. The man gives me the ick. I can't believe people are taken in by him.

nomoreredtape · 30/06/2025 08:20

I tried RH several years ago (pre-app) when they used to do these ‘missions’. Paid some money to get access to a FB group where a PDF was shared with all we needed to know. I started to think, ‘hang on..if they’re repeating this every time there’s a ‘mission’ with each person paying for a PDF, that’s a lot of cash for them’.

I think there was a coach of some description in the group but the advice was very much, ‘get off your ass, you lazy cow’.

I decided it wasn’t for me and I wrote a balanced review, saying how it’s good if you don’t know anything about nutrition but for me, wasn’t worth what I’d spent. They deleted my review and banned me from the page. I don’t think they like criticism. 😂
