MJ or other jabs and inability to focus or concentrate especially at work- anyone else?

I have today all morning struggled at work to focus. Have been this way for what feels like months - I have clicked today about my MJ jabs and wonder if there is a link?

Anyone else?

I’m afraid not. I would say I was quite the opposite despite loads of crap going on in my life at the moment.

Thank you for posting this. I am really struggling with focus. I am currently in the middle of my PhD research and I feel like I haven't done anything of note for the past 2+ months. My work is largely self-managed, and I have a crap supervisor who is not really invested in what I'm doing, so my inability to focus and actually get on with anything is difficult to overcome alone. I'm terrified that I may lose my funding, but even the thought of that is not enough to kick me into gear.

This all coincides with me starting mj. I feel like I have lost the food noise and gained mj noise - where all my thoughts are consumed by it and reading about it (here, reddit etc).

I'm really not sure what to do. The injections are working brilliantly, but I can't continue (barely) working like this.

It feels good to write it down, as I haven't told anyone - not even DH. I can't offer any advice, but commenting here to say, you're not alone!

I’m quite fortunate I have a reactive stats based job, but was taken aback when one of the last occasions in I overheard they want to keep an eye out for people taking the jabs, sorry I’ve just presumed mental health and or then concern over other conditions maybe.

Our one 2 ones always start well being heavy, say as little or as much as you like.
What happens if your manager has a different point of view as I know there are so many differing opinions out there.

Think it hard personally as I’ve known a couple of people in past employment before now, who have had weight loss surgery which must take someone out of the business to have and possibly change someone’s appearance rather more quickly.

Are you eating properly? That could be the cause rather than the actual MJ itself?

I have had the opposite experience since taking MJ, my focus has never been so good - I have ADHD (unmedicated) and I have seen a vast improvement in my ability.

I've found I can concentrate better now I'm on MJ.
It's also made my ADHD symptoms less as well.

Not the topic of the thread I know, but do you have a second supervisor you can speak to? I know at my institution all PhD researchers must have 2. Also, most Unis have independent advisors who you can speak to if things have broken down with your supervisors.

A PhD is a lonely journey, it's best to talk your current feelings with someone. Periods like this are completely normal, I told my supervisor I wanted to give up on more than one occasion (she told me she wouldn't let me quit!). I've had similar discussions with my current PhDs, it's your supervisor's job to help and if they aren't helping there will be someone who can.

Actually yes! I thought it was peri getting the better of me, it never occurred to me it could be MJ!

Mj2025end · 19/05/2025 20:32

Yes without a doubt. My dopamine levels were already managed well on meds and mj hasn't been good for them. I've reduced my dose below the starting dose. I've also had to start taking my adhd meds before a meal which I'd never do normally but with the slower digestion on mj, it's been the only way to get the meds working properly.

To those who who have said their adhd has improved, I wonder how much is from a reduction in sugar and increase in protein, both of which can improve adhd. I don't say that to be a twat but to give you hope if you plan to taper off mj. There are several neurotransmitters involved in adhd so if only changing your dopamine levels improves your adhd so quickly, diet may help more than you expect.

My work is cyclical, and I had to stop the jabs last year when I couldn't do my job to the level required during the highest pressure phase of my working process. I have absolutely no doubt that MJ was the cause -- I am post menopause and otherwise healthy, so there were no obvious other reasons for my complete inability to focus.

I waited until April this year to restart as I now have months ahead of less pressure and lots of thinking time. I do recommend taking a break if any of you are struggling. A few weeks back on MJ, and I'm already below the weight I stopped at last year.

Loubylie · 19/05/2025 20:38

I know weight loss is the goal, but are you eating too little? The brain needs a lot of energy to function well.

Mysticmaiden · 19/05/2025 21:35

Mine improved on MJ. It could be not eating enough so low blood sugar, vitamin deficiencies try a B complex, omega 3 also helps memory and concentration and really made a difference with me 43 perimenopausal and prediabetes
