What's my realistic weight loss on Mounjaro

Hi - I'm being assessed by an online chemist for Mounjaro (not sure if I'll be approved) but in the meantime I am trying to manage my expectations for weight loss.

I'm 10st 9 and 5ft 2 inches (BMI just over 27) and I have long-term high blood pressure.

I'd like to get down to 9st. So 23lbs. Any more would be amazing though I wouldn't want to go below 8st 7lbs.

So my question is what would be a realistic time frame to lose 23lbs? I'd love to do it 4 months but thinking that seems a bit ambitious to lose that much!

The weight loss is not meant to be super fast, it's the same as any other weight loss programme so 1 to 2 pounds a week is what's expected. Some people lose more, some take longer for it to take effect and/or lose more slowly. Hard to know in advance which you'll be.

In 4 months, you'd be looking at losing between 16 and 32 pounds, so 23 pounds is easily within that range. The issue when you're quite short is that your daily calorie needs are going to be quite low, so maintaining a 500 cal deficit per day to lose 1 pound per week might mean a quite low calorie allowance per day. You'd need to calculate your TDEE and see.

I agree with the reply above but also be aware as you are starting off at a lower weight, it may take longer to lose. I only lose 1lb a week starting at 5ft 3 and 13 stones with a deficit of 1200 but I am prediabetic and found the higher doses more effective for better loses. So I'd give yourself 6 months just in case.

I started 10 weeks ago, BMI 27.1 too. 5’5”
I am eating 1500 cals/ 100gm protein/ 30gm of fibre a day and aiming for 15000 steps a day (need to start some weights too)
18.4 lbs down so far

Everyone seems to respond very differently, I’m almost 19 weeks in and have lost 60lbs, I have friends who started at similar times and have lost 20lbs.
I was under the impression you needed a starting BMI over 30? Has this changed or have I misremembered?

I lost 10kg in 2 months

Yes that is right except it can be approved for a BMI over 27 if you have certain health conditions - as I do.

Aim for 1-2 pounds loss per week.
I started in Feb. With a bmi of 30. Now at 27.

I’m a similar height to you.

23 pound to lose should take you between 12 and 23 weeks
it isn’t a magic wand but it is very helpful.

good luck.

Are you asking about time frame because you are excited about the prospect of losing weight or because you can only afford it for a short period?

I would just urge some caution if it were the latter, as the vast majority of people will have to stay on these drugs for life.

I am 5'3" and am down from 12st to 10st10. I am aiming for 1-2lb/week.

It depends on age, metabolism, exercise as well as diet, metabolic conditions like prediabetes, underactive thyroid, pcos etc some conditions are undiagnosed. We are all very different. Some people lose weight easier than others.

5’2” here and SW was 11 stone 2. CW 9 stone 4. GW 9 stone or a bit under as good muscle mass meaning I will still be higher end BMI but already a size 10. Importantly when weight loss was slow or I stalled for weeks I used body composition scales at the gym with a trainer there to show me I was losing fat percentage to stop me being disheartened. This has so far been a 5 month journey and was never a regular 1lb or 2lb a week thing. Many weeks nothing but sometimes 3lb after weeks of plateau. The difference with this and dieting is that I would have quit at this rate on a regular diet or fallen of the wagon for sure. The fact that there is appetite suppression and insulin regulation just means this is heaps easier to keep going longer term. Don’t aim to be done and dusted in 4 months or you may end up restricting too much and losing too fast and rebounding later on. I now like the fact that my body settles at a new weight for 3 weeks before progressing again. I feel it is more sustainable for me on the long term. Most days I eat in deficit for sure which is hard when you are short but a couple of days at maintenance calories if not more but I am sure to be as active and lift weights as much as I can most days of the week - even if just squats and press ups at home and lots of walking. In the gym I do harder work in CrossFit style classes. I really hope you get to start on this fabulous journey too and enjoy it along the way with every small win which I think will give you more success and longevity than focusing on that final number. Know your blood work as that has also been a huge motivator not just the scales I have had 3 tests during this time and seen my cholesterol drop from 4.5 to 3.5 and blood glucose and triglycerides in a super good range. I may need another 4 months and it is expensive but I will probably space doses out as I eventually wind down
