Weight loss injections

I've finally plucked up the courage to properly look into weigh loss injections however was wondering if someone could help me with a quick question.
Say I'm losing weight at a rate I'm happy with on whatever dose of injection, can I remain on that dose or are you forced to move up to a bigger dose?

I’ve stayed on 2.5 for 3 months now and still losing. I can’t really afford the cost of the bigger does. Not sure if it’s psychological but it’s still working so I’ll stick at this while I can

User27563 · 18/05/2025 18:40

Yes absolutely, I would recommend not moving up unless it's no longer effective for you.
4 weeks is the just the minimum time you should wait before moving up

User27563 · 18/05/2025 18:41

I've been taking it about 10 months and am on 7.5

Plump82 · 18/05/2025 18:42

The cost of higher dose's is what's really putting me off but that's good to know that if I found a dose that was working for me that I could continue on that one.

Yes, apart from with the provider SheMed apparently according to a recent thread.

I've been with Morrisons and Oushk and on my 3rd 2.5 pen.

Plump82 · 18/05/2025 18:44

Ahh good to know certain providers don't allow this!

You are definitely not forced to move up. However for some people the low doses don't really have any effect and many of those people are getting disheartened at the fact that they had decided they wanted to stay on a low dose but its not working, as I see you are aware as you stated if you are happy with the rate.

What i am trying to say is it is much better to go into it believing you will need to dose up through the system, rather than at outset 'hoping' the low dose will work (this way you would be happy if a low dose is effective, rather than disheartened if a low dose isnt as effective).

Edited as i just saw that the higher cost is a factor for not wanting to dose up which is valid.. I feel the same way about the cost too!!
Just be aware that you may be one of the people who may have to dose up and as such the higher doses need to be affordable too.

I would agree with this and also if finances are an issue I would think very carefully about whether you can afford it long-term before starting. Almost everyone regains the weight if they stop.

Plump82 · 18/05/2025 18:50

There's a lot to take into consideration isn't there.

Quite a few people find their food and booze bills are decreased so much that they actually spend less despite paying for the injections. So if you usually spend a hundred quid a week on wine and eating out or ordering takeaways you won't have any trouble finding 30 quid a week for the injections out of the money you save. In fact at the end of the month you'll have saved £280 to put towards all the new smaller clothes you'll need to buy before long.

bogan36 · 19/05/2025 16:30

I have done 6 months on the 2.5mg

Mysticmaiden · 19/05/2025 20:42

I'm on 12.5mg 7.5 months in, I am prediabetic so needed the higher doses. They do cost more but I worked out I had spent £165 on 12.5mg, my supermarket food shop for a month used to be £150-160 a month, last month I actually spent only £88 on food so I've saved £62-72 last month just by eating less and im eating healthier, more protein. I'm also not eating takeaways and going out less so save then too. So my pen essentially cost around £100 and I got 5 doses so it only cost £20 a week, which I would have easily spent on afternoon tea or a lunch meal with a friend in the past!

I wish I had the money to spend a couple of hundred on wine and eating out! Unfortunately I don't, or that should be fortunately as id probably be even bigger than I am now! 😂

Have you been losing a consistent amount on that? How long did it take you to start losing on that dose?

Yes average 1.5-2 lbs a week. It kicked in straight away and I lost 8lbs in week one. I’m 5 stone lighter now! I can definitely eat more now than I could in the first few weeks but I prefer it this way, having suppression to the point I didn’t want to eat wasn’t enjoyable for me. Now I have a good balance.

I notice unless thread someone mentioned being on
a high dose due to being pre diabetic- just wanted to add I reversed my pre diabetes in 10 weeks at 2.5mg.

Burnserns · 19/05/2025 21:50

The thing is you won't know if you will respond well to 2.5mg or if you will need a higher dose to start losing. It is all so individual.

Plump82 · 19/05/2025 21:59

@Burnserns absolutely agree. Its good to hear @bogan36 has been able to loose consistently on a low dose and that would be the dream but I know that might not be me.

Yellowsubmarine55 · 19/05/2025 22:05

I'm still on 2.5 and have been for 8 weeks and until the weight loss stops I'll continue. I figure if I'm in a calorie deficit then I'll keep losing 1-2lb a week which is ideal. 22lb down so in the right direction.

wite · 20/05/2025 13:41

I didn’t go higher than 7.5
