MJ for 2 months - worth it?

Hello, I have a surgery coming up end of the summer. I am currently 13st 7lbs and classed as obese BMI wise. I am terrified of this surgery and keep reading that the risks are higher for those with a high BMI.

I have been trying to lose weight naturally and I can't seem to shake it. Well, it does maybe a pound every 2-3 weeks at most. I used to be much smaller but the weight has piled on the past 10 years.

Until the age of 28 I was approx 9 and a half stone and then since then it's just shot up and up. Tbh ever since I came off contraception.

Sorry to ramble, but would it be worth it using the weight loss injections for 2 months? How much roughly could I lose? Id love to get my BMI to a healthy range so I wouldn't be as anxious about the surgery.

IT may be worth it as some people get instant effects but the problem is that, for some people, they don't kick in instantly. I have been a lifelong yoyo dieter so my metabolism is fucked but I didn't really get an effect until my third month.
I think, if it were me, for two months I would just try harder with the dieting.
Even on injections you have to control calorie intake, protein, etc

You’re often asked to stop taking Mounjaro for a week or more before surgery so you’d have to factor that in. It’s so hard to say what weight you could lose, as it’s so variable. For some people it might be very little, as they need the higher doses for it to fully work. Some get the full effect from day 1 and start losing weight from the first week.

I wouldn’t bother. I’ve just had my 3rd injection on 2.5 and I only had supresssion for the first week. It’s just like being on a normal calorie controlled diet for me at the minute so a bit miserable. The first month is for your body to get used to it so I’m not expecting much to happen in terms of effects until month 2.

Similar start weight to you and I lost 16 lbs in my first six weeks- I am no longer obese. I think I could probably have pushed it and lost a bit more. Rapid weight loss isn’t my goal so I was trying to eat sensibly but the suppression would have helped me to eat less if I’d wanted to. As others say there is no guarantee it will work straight away for you and a fair amount of that early loss is water so not sure it would really alter your surgical risk much.

I wouldn't & the weight loss you are seeking - obese to healthy BMI in 2 months is extreme. I don't think that's even possible if you are just in the obese range and lose a stone a month.
Diet the best you can & go on it afterwards if you want.

Not worth it tbh

Fatmumslim01 · 18/05/2025 18:58

I lost a stone in 2 months on MJ taking my BMI from 40 to 37 so for me i would say worth it

jmh740 · 18/05/2025 20:24

I'm also 13.7 started mounjaro in December haven't lost a lb yet and no appetite suppression

Mysticmaiden · 18/05/2025 21:33

I started at 13st 1lb and lost 1 stone in 2.5 months. 7 months on and I've now lost 2.5 stones. I'd say stick to calorie counting, increase protein and limit carbs, try to move more if you can too.

Caddycat · 18/05/2025 21:48

I would say give it a go! I've seen some amazing results here and whilst it varies from person to person, I think any weight loss is beneficial for surgery so I'd give it a go. You'll need to stop ahead of the operation and speak to your surgeon/anaesthetist about it but you could always carry on afterwards.
