Obese?

I am 2 stone overweight but Boots effectively say I have to put a further 2 stone on before I am eligible for Mounjaro. How have you obtained Mounjaro whilst being overweight but not obese? If so where and what was the procedure?

Your BMI must be 30 or 27 with some weight related conditions.

No the OP does not meet prescription criteria, none of the registered pharmacies will prescribe it.

AndSoFinally · 16/05/2025 10:15

You would need to lie to obtain the meds at that weight

That is probably what people in your situation are doing 🤷🏻

WeAllHaveWings · 16/05/2025 10:36

It is classified as a high risk medication for the treatment of obesity and the prescription guidelines are BMI > 30, or BMI > 27 with diagnosed weight related health conditions or certain ethnicities.

At these BMIs the risk from the medication are outweighed by the risks of obesity.

You need to research the medication thoroughly to understand why it is not appropriate for cosmetic weight loss. You could end up spending a fortune, put your health at risk all for no long term benefit.

What is your current BMI @Dogeasy and are you especially tall? I'm 5'7 and the difference between the top of a healthy BMI and the lower end of obesity is less than 2.5 stone for me. For you to need to be 4 stone over a BMI of 25 to have a BMI of 30 would make you very tall.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 16/05/2025 16:15

I don't think there can be 4 stone between normal weight and obese.

Yes that can't be right. Even at 6'4" there are 3 stone between BMI 25 and 30.

I read this as the OP being 2 stone over their personal normal weight - so say they are a slim build, 5’5” and normally 9stone (Lower end of healthy BMI) but currently 11stone and in overweight category (just, but 2 stone overweight to them) then it would be around another 2 stone to 13stone and obese.

But no, OP the prescribers all have same criteria as it’s the only way it’s approved for use, you must be obese to start, which for most of us is BMI > 30. Anyone lighter than this using WLI has either lied to get the prescription or started at a higher BMI in which case you are allowed to continue until you’ve reached a mid-healthy BMI and sometimes stay on maintenance for a while beyond that.
