I've lost most of my excess weight on MJ. I'm still on it. I've just had a hip replacement and I'm afraid to weigh .myself in case the replacement is heavier than my original hip.
I was going to weigh myself this morning and chickened out.
Now I need to know which is heavier, bone or new hip.

Amazingly there has been research on this… I don’t know what kind of hip replacement you’ve had but the research I saw suggests it might be 150 to 250g heavier than the original joint. So, less than half a pound. I really wouldn’t worry about it and hop on the scales.

If the op was recent, you may well be carrying fluid retention water weight from the healing process, so that’s worth bearing in mind too.

Phew. Thanks. I had an uncemented one. It was to correct a congenital defect. Acetabulum in the wrong place. I don't know why I'm making such a big deal of it 😂

The difference will be negligible and knowing won’t change anything really. Either way it’s in there to stay and so whatever it says on the scales is your weight and what you will work from as of now.

please be kind to yourself and remember that the hospital stay, the trauma to your muscles and other tissues, the medications you will be taking for pain, all will have had a physical impact and there is a big likelihood that you’ll have water retention as a result. So whatever it says on the scales will likely change fairly rapidly as you heal and rehydrate.

I was worried about this last July! You are likely to have gone up a bit but it will be water retention and won’t last long. From memory I went up about 5 or 6 pounds but it was gone in about 2 weeks.

Try your best not to worry which I know is easy to say and harder to do but I would hide the scales and focus on getting your physio in plus trying to move every hour if you can (I couldn’t quite manage that)

Mine was due to hip dysplasia and also no cement . Am grateful for it every day, it has been like a miracle as I was in such a bad state by the time I had it.
