Low Mood After Stopping Mounjaro?

Anyone else?

This week I have felt really low, sad, demotivated, teary and this is not me at all! Only just mid cycle so it's not a hormonal thing.

Was thinking this morning and the only thing that has changed is I stopped Mounjaro couple of weeks ago. I had been micro dosing at 1.75mg for the last 2 months and stopped 2 weeks ago.

I have noticed a huge increase in food noise and appetite which I think I am managing well, but the poor mood is rubbish. I am wasting my days, cant be arsed to do anything, cry for no reason, feel so stuck in a rut and demotivated.

Is this a big coincidence or could there be a link? I do have an emergency 2.5mg pen in the fridge so may take a micro dose of that and see what happens?

Why did you stop taking?

Why did you stop taking?

I have been at target since January and very stable on a micro dose of 1.75mg but it is costing a lot and I am wasting a lot so wanted to stop and save the money instead.

Could it be that battling the food noise is exhausting you? The other thing could be that we are undertaking this life changing project while on these meds, and now that has come to the end so that could bring a disphoria.

In both cases maybe it would be worth trying a new project, logically something physical would be most helpful, starting a weight lifting regime or learning to dance or a martial art maybe?

I was the total opposite, when I stopped taking it my mood increased dramatically after months of being fairly miserable on it.

but unfortunately so did my appetite 🫣

I am now back on 2.5mg to get me through the summer months with holidays, weddings etc but again my mood has plummeted.

I did research when I was on it before and there is a link between increased depression & anxiety when on MJ and that was definitely real for me, but I didn’t see anything that suggested coming off it caused these things.

do you think it could be a lack of control thing for you? Like you had control over how you felt about food etc when you were on MJ but now you’re off feel like you’ve lost the control & focus and this is what could be bringing your mood down?

Are you on a very strict , low Calorie diet?
I find if my blood sugar dips too low it can cause low mood.
make sure you are eating enough food and having meat protein.
I also found half a glass of orange juice daily - vitamin C was essential to fight off low mood

UpUpUpU · 14/05/2025 17:30

No low calories diet. I eat very normally I think and dont deprive myself.

so yesterday afternoon I took a 1.75mg dose as I have one more pen. Did a night shift last night that I really enjoyed and I got a big part of my preceptorship signed off, which was a relief. Had a nap today from 9-2 and woke up feeling so much better.

I’ve got a load of annoying little jobs done in the garden, made a big healthy protein salad and I’m
planning and excited for my day off tomorrow.

Now it could be a complete coincidence couldn’t it?

Good.idea on the project. I used to marathon swim and would love to commit to that again. Maybe that’s what I’ll do, use this pen I’ve started and try again to come off it next month.

I had this when I took a break for a couple of months. I actually felt horrendous for a while but it did improve. Either way I put on quite a bit of weight and restarted it again a month ago. I’m now eating a lot more than I was before but still losing. So could have been linked to low calories for too long but I think there may have been a brain chemistry thing as well, I’m not sure. I am now hoping to stay on it for at least a while even though I agree it’s expensive. It does help many other areas than just weight for me.

Doesn't it affect dopamine? Could you have been depressed before but managing your mood with comfort eating? Then the moutjaro increased/levelled out your dopamine levels so you didn't need to, but now you're not doing either?

Sorry you’re going through this OP. I’ve only been on MJ for 3 weeks so far but my mood is great, the best it has been in a very long time. So I think there is a mental health benefit to it in terms of being in control of food, no food noise, feeling better about self. That’s what I’m finding x

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/05/2025 09:31

There's some anecdotal talk of it helping with adhd symptoms could it be that?

I'm also on elvanse (which is even better for adhd I've found) but I wonder if it's doing soemthing in the brain on similar pathways.

distrussful · 20/05/2025 12:22

I’ve had to take a three week break as left my pen whilst away and I feel exactly the same. Pin pointed yesterday that it’s a huge increase in both anxiety and low mood. Wake up with and immediately get stressed. I hadn’t actually realised the absence of these feelings on Mounjaro until I had to stop. I’m restarting on Friday when I’m back on 2.5, had only ever gone up to 3.75 and am now just trying to get through!

I do think there’s something in the blood sugar / low calorie point. I wonder for those of us with pre diabetes / PCOS / insulin resistance whether the constant cyclin of blood sugar causes these mood fluctuations, and Mounjaro manages these via stabilising for us? All anecdotal of course but you’re not alone !

JennyForeigner · 20/05/2025 16:31

I have been the same. As above I am ADHD but unmedicated. I felt calmer, happier and just all around better on MJ and then stopped and felt very low. It had been PMTish but out of cycle and I am definitely drinking a lot more wine again having not picked up a glass when on the jabs.
